I'm sure security guards in your home country are trained and licensed. We saw beatings like this 40 years ago in Australia until they cleaned up the business. Back in the 80s there were deaths by security guards. In your home country, they would probably serve time for this (unless your home country is Zimbabwe or somewhere in the deep jungle) in addition to being sued by the victims. It does not matter how badly the customers behave.

And then, in your and my home country, there are laws, which are enforced by the police. In our home countries the police are not regularly paid by all those bars to look the other way. And the bad guys are punished in front of a judge, after they are arrested by the police. Yes, our home countries are different.

 

I came to Thailand before videos on the internet. I don't think I would not have visited Thailand if I would have seen that misbehaving aholes are beaten up. 

 

Living in Thailand for decades, I don't be afraid to go anywhere into a nightlife area, because I know the guards will make sure there is no trouble. And because I pay my bills and don't upset the girls, I don't fear any problems with the guards.

 

The Thai punishment system has one big advantage. Punishment is done within minutes. Problem solved.

For both the bouncers as the punters, this evening sure ended differently than they had planned beforehand, so no winners on any side. Albeit I hope the guy getting his head kicked in will recover and have a story to tell, namely how many more years the bouncer will be in prison (no high hopes for either outcome, after seeing the latest articles).

Not stupid at all it's reality . It would have been 3 on 3  and maybe they wouldn't have been kicked in the head.  He sure was active before the fight.      They aren't going to prison   and they have engaged in this behavior before.

Exactly.  The answer to your question by the way (at one of the TAT's many junket trips and conferences), was to spend millions of Baht publicising that in BS magazines and websites that Thailand is a 'quality tourist destination' and then ensure PBS, BP, KSE, NT, etc all regurgitate that 'news'.   Meanwhile in a publication not allowed to quote here, Thailand has dropped 10 places in the WEF World Tourist Index - mainly due to poor services, infratstructure, safety and corruption.

You won't see quality tourism in Pattaya at large for many good reasons. They staycation in upscale enclaves/5 stars in areas like wongamat. Not sure if that's going to be enough to float the boat here or not for all the development?

Everyone knows that you aren't allowed to criticise anything about Thailand unless everything about your home country is perfect. Even then, if you choose to live in Thailand, it by default means that you must find it better than your home country, therefore you aren't allowed to complain about it.  🙄

That's fine, but the reason that people object to things like this is that they have empathy for the victims and frustration at the system that allows it to happen.

 

The fact that these guys argued over a bill and one of them may have pushed a security guard in no way justifies what followed.

 

"I'm OK with it because I'm 99% sure it won't happen to me" isn't the way that everyone views the world.

 

This bad thing happened in Thailand, it was done by Thai people, it was done to foreign people, probably partly because they are foreign, and the response from the Thai authorities will likely be shaped by these facts.

 

All foreign people in Thailand are affected in some way by this event or the circumstances that led to it. Some people choose to ignore that, others don't.
