    Not missing you already.

So, why didn't you do something then ?

If they do it everyday is that not a routine? And it sounds better than a hospital cleaning routine.   Sounds like you might be a bit jealous and lonely.

The wider Pattaya area has thousands of rental places, from small condos to huge opulent villas. I lived in Pattaya for 9 years and wouldn't have dreamed of being stuck in a condo (although there are some fabulous ones available) or anywhere else near the city centre.

There is also a lot to do in and around Pattaya that doesn't include alcohol or any / many expats (certainly not the vest wearing ones). If you found yourself bored there and it wasn't due to missing friends back home... you didn't really try very hard.

Times change

I can't retire here ,I'm sorry ,

I need to keep working,to keep a routine or I need something to do ,like a business to run.

I can't sit by that bloody pool all day I have had enough !!!

That sounds very boring.

You want me to end up the same as these people?

No routine, you want that ,I know you do

I can't come back to Pattaya km sorry ,retiring here is definitely no

To whom are you taking to ?

No one is asking you to go back to Pattaya

I sat by the pool (our own) for maybe 10 days maximum in 9 years. Like I said, there is a lot more to do. Cramming yourself in a poxy condo is very unlikely to put you in the mood to actually find it though.

It seems incredulous that you would choose Pattaya out of all the places in Thailand as a place to spend 7 weeks; it would seem completely incompatible with you, unless there are reasons for going there that you are not disclosing.

Interesting that you entertainingly describe all the things you would not want to do in a retirement environment, but you don’t mention any of the things that you like to do; maybe if you said what you like doing, and how you like to spend your time, you might get some good suggestions from posters as to other places that might be more suitable for you.

yeah, walking up and down a subway beats trolling on AN

the cops didnt stop you out of suspicion that you were a serial killer seeing you walk up and down the subway?

I fell in love in Pattaya. Bored and sitting in yet another crappy bar one afternoon in 1994 a woman came along on a bike selling Thai music tapes. Not knowing anything about it I bought 3, one was terrible, some string rubbish, but the other 2 were of Sunaree Rachesima and Ew Pimpeyom, great singers. I just got the ones with the prettiest girls on the cover. Met both of those singers years later and a host of others. The only times I went back to Pattaya was once in 98 for a week, left after a day, and three times to see singers, then straight back to Bangkok.

Should have rolled over to Soi 6. I heard it's kicking over there.

Sex isn't for everyone!

True, the older I get I wonder what I ever saw in it, and why I spent so much time and money chasing such fleeting, and often less than amazing experiences.

You've got the gym covered, you just need an intellectual challenge. The most obvious one is to learn Thai ... speaking, reading and writing. Not only will it keep you occupied but each month you will steadily improve your ability to communicate with the local Thais. You'll have a much richer experience and understand the culture better.

I agree with your take on the foreigners who spend their time drinking their life away, but it is not the only option available.

Some people are very happy to have actually reached retirement age, me being one of them. What with a cancer scare and crappy lungs, I would be perfectly happy to live in a small condo in Pattaya, enjoy the sun and daily walks along the promenade, chat with Thai locals, have my lunch at the cat cafe and simply thank my god that I am alive and reasonably healthy 🙂

I have stayed in Pattaya many times, and the above is my daily routine and it's great!

In fact, the main reason why I do not live permanently in a Jomtien or Pattaya condo is because I can't install my myriad of ham radio antennas... 🙂  It does help to have a hobby that you can do, and stay away from the bars/bar-girls/bar-boys etc.

Could I live like this if I retired ?

No thanks

You know how depressed I would be  sitting in a dark 21sqm room in the view talay?

You make living in Isaan sounds like luxury 😁

Never a boring day! Up with the sun and the exiting day begins

All good points, but nothing can help someone who is not able to find solutions themselves. They know what it takes to be happy, and it starts with dicipline, get up in the morning, do things for themselves is not as easy as doing things for others.

Doing things for others gives meaning, gives energy if its well appreciated.

Thats the key

So listen keep working in your hospital as long as you can not everyone is fit to be retired. :burp:

Some things to do will include dating, gym, beach walks, reading, trying new restaurants. Exploring different parts of a city. I went to Khao San Road and walked a block to see the other roads. Found a nice restaurant. I found an amazing gym in Hua Hin and a great reataurant nearby. I found a really nice condo in Chiang Mai. Thailand has some fantastic gyms and some are only 50 to 150 baht a day. Going to 4 different gyms is an experience in itself. In those areas check out the restaurants, talk to others at a gym. Life is what you make of it.

1st mistake was going to Patts, if not a drunk and or sextourist.

2nd mistake was staying there 7 weeks.

Guessing you didn't come with a partner ?

Should have negotiated a 6+ week 'partner rental' and got out of town.

Krung Thep for a week, though you should have started there, and if new rental friend is working out, keep.

Hop the train South (my preference), and spend a few days or more till bored at;

Cha Am beach

Hua Hin beach

Pranburi surfside

Sam Roi Yot beach

KuiBuri

PKK surfside

Thap Sakae surfside

Bang Saphans beach

Ban Krut beach

Thung Wua Laem beach

Then pop over

Cheow Lan Lake

Down to Phang-nga (municipality)

Over to Krabi town ... exit TH from there.

WELCOME TO MY WORLD when we get bored at home

While doing all that, it's also a 'recon' for when you do retired.  See which spots tickle your fancy, or turn you off.

So, why did you stay there then ?

Why didn't you go and find somewhere more suited to you  ?

You seem to have just sat there watching other people drinking

Maybe he prepaid all his room costs because he doesn't know any better. He could have gone to Ko Samet, Ko Chang, Ko Kood, Ko Maak. He could have gone to Kanchanaburi or Khao Sok NP. Instead he watched guys get drunk and wasted his 6 weeks. Almost impossible to not have fun on a 6 week trip but he managed it.

Do you really believe that you have seen it all and ALL the expats are doing what you say - sitting in a dark 21sqm room in the view talay? Oooh dear, seems you are a very lonely person, sort of lost in Thailand!

I think that's New Zealand sweetie we don't have sheep in Sydney ,get off the grog ,your a unfit old fart (your words not mine) who refuses to go to the gym or achieving goals !!!!

You have done nothing but sit by that bloody pool and turn ho back to your small 21sqm room and watch A touch of Frost !

Get a life !

You went to Pattaya for 6 weeks to be with these types of people. So you choose a terrible holiday and only have yourself to blame. Have you never heard of Khao Sok or Ko Maak or another place other than Pattaya?

If you where bored in Pattaya then you would be bored anywhere, IMHO Pattaya is the least boring  part of Thailand after perhaps Bangkok..

its also said that only boring people get bored.
