the Pattaya police are under public scrutiny.

They have been for 20 years (by me).  No change yet; they are still inept, lazy and corrupt with a finger in every nefarious activity whilst doing nothing to address the daily road kill figures.

...and those who have no understanding of probabilities. Once, long ago, I ran a flower stall in Covent Garden ( Eliza Doolittle in reverse) next to a betting shop.

It didn't take long to realise that the only person who left with a cheery smile on his face every single day was the owner.

The house always wins. Gambling is a mug's game.

I agree, thanks for your reply.

BTW, I like your user name, when I was younger, Drumbuie was my favourite drink. 🍻

Hmmm…. 20000 baht is not exactly a life changing amount. It must depend on your perspective i guess :TIT ?

There's parts of this story I'm missing..

Is this saying that somewhere near or on Soi 6 there's an establishment where people can gamble using online sites on PCs that are made to look like electronic slot-machines?

Why do people use this kind of place instead of go online at home?

How do they collect their winnings?

Thanks

I never understood playing online gambling games, it's literally in the coding to ensure it always wins.

Not just online games, but also state lotteries, horse racing and casinos. They are all rigged to win, of course.

I'm pleased for him, anyone who isn't is just jealous. But it's 20k BAHT, not a great deal of money....what is all the fuss about?

He probably spent and lost more than that in the build up to the Win.

In light of the soon-to-be-revised gambling Laws this story strikes me as a little bit unnecessary

Yet they have lottery every month on the 1st and 16th is that not gambling and now they plan to build casinos is that not gambling I see many Thais gambling playing cards it’s time Thailand either said one or the other gambling permitted or gambling not allowed if it’s the latter then don’t open up casinos and stop the monthly lottery . When you tell people they can’t do something they go and do it !

I think it's amusing that Thailand, which forbids any form of gambling, is talking - yet again - about opening casinos. Of course - yet again - the talk will go away when those in the shadows, who run the illegal casinos, remind those who threaten their income and pretend to condemn the illegal casinos also benefit greatly from them, with some law enforcement personnel even working for them in their spare time, as well as having the places hidden behind closed doors on speed dial to warn of any unwelcome visitors in uniform on their way.

There are a number of problems with regard to this post, the first being that the police enforcement of gambling is highly selective and there's very little in the way of a deterrent. It's very likely that the higher-ups in the RTP are involved in the promotion of gambling themselves.

The second thing that comes to mind is why on earth with this guy post something like that? What is he thinking, is he 16 years old, or did he never mature beyond 16? Is he trying to incite people, is he trying to cause problems? Only somebody with an IQ of under 75 would post something like this, so he's essentially saying to the world that he's spectacularly stupid.

Every day is school day; until now I was - wrongly so - of the firm belief, that Pattaya's beach road Soi 6 was an area infamous for other  clandestine activities.

Soi 6 Prepare for a raid very soon, that will reveal surprisingly no prostitution or gambling..... then they can give each other trophy's for doing such a good job.

Is that box underneath supposed to imitate a slot machine and it's buttons??,

No! The first one to the left, has a lid and can be used as an ashtray. The second one following is to open and hide your Yaba pills in. The other 3 yellow is just decorative symmetry for an eye catching center of the box. The blue buttons are from up to down, On, Pause, Off.

Is "professional gambler" an occupation reserved for Thais?  And will he get banged up for working illegally?

These idiots are amazing, they just can't help themselves,......do something illegal, put it on facebook with a mugshot and while you're about it insult the police, what could go wrong?

sooner they legalize gambling the better
all they are doing is missing out of huge tax revenue
there are simply too many ways to gamble IRL and online
it is too difficult to enforce, which is clear to all.

To be competitive regionally they would have to partner with and bring in the foreign gaming companies. Those have corporate boards, real accounting, background checks.

Gives all the penniless Karens in here some excitement 'cos they can't afford to drown their sorrows.

That clashes with the fact that there are always winners in the state lottery.

The government has always made it very clear that, with the exception of horse race betting at permitted locations and the government lottery, gambling is illegal in Thailand.  Just because you see people gambling on card games doesn't make it a grey area, that is illegal also.

I think that it even more amusing that you make that false assertion.  The government lottery and state-controlled horse race betting is perfectly legal.
