Given that I don't think Harris is the best choice to run, if the Dems become locked-in to her, then I think Biden should resign now. This would make Harris the president for the next 6 months or so, letting her show her strengths to the public. She could also then choose a strong, male VP, most likely from a swing state.

Observing the relatively limited range meaningful comments that seem fixated on either recriminations for Biden stepping down or defense of that act.

I haven not observed any consideration of the reality that Biden and Trump live at an age where regardless of assurances by or on behalf of denying physical vulnerability to dropping dead would have the same impact as a late withdrawal as a candidate.

Laughably Trump has suggested calls for financial compensation due to a change in adversary. Would he suggest same or even express condolences if Biden had died? I doubt it ! He apparently did not call the family of the guy who died as a MGA  martyr but he kissed  a uniform !

Were it that Trump had taken a head shot and died I think a sincere but brief mourning might have occurred before a global sigh of relief was heard.

It remains within the realms of possibility that Trump too will agitate himself to a degree his physical self will betray him.

It is not a 'perceived infirmity'. Joe was declining. Everybody knew, but nobody said anything.  The cover-up will become more obvious as time goes by.  Even his Hollywood friends and backers noticed. And yes, he would lose to the convicted business document alterer. For the Democratic Party, THAT was the unforgivable sin.
