Yes, you do "get what you pay for" BUT, I tried the steak way back, and found it so tough to be almost inedible. If a restaurant cannot provide a reasonably acceptable (eatable) meal for the advertised price, then it should not be on the menu!

That was pretty much my experience too but I didn't complain as it was only 99 baht. If I had paid the full non-card price of 199 baht I would have said something. My mate called it cooked boot leather.

Note that my deleted FB review was not as blunt as above. Because of all the glowing reviews I simple said "I found the sirloin steak to not be good but then what did I expect for 99 baht"

And the gumption to complain about it and paying 99 baht ...omg unbelievable

I really can't believe people nowadays

I really cannot believe the unintelligible nonsense that some people post here.  You appear to be aghast at someone complaining about a meal costing just B99, yet you state that he had the shrewd initiative and resourcefulness (gumption) to complain!   Make up your mind.

I found it not that cheap, at least for regular daily dining. Many of the meals were a conservative $6-7 Usd with a drink when you do the currency conversion.

I've got some canned food in the cupboard here if OP or anyone is in need... I can drop some over if you guys are desperate

Thanks, but how will that stop CC banning all non-glowing reviews on their FB page?

Maybe drop the cans at CC and then their food reviews may improve 😉

I never got the card because it has an expiration date. I don't like keeping track of dates.

So you refuse to get the discount card to make all specials 99 baht, but then complain it's not cheap as you're paying full price 😀

I only went in very rarely. It did not matter much to me. I usually went around the corner and got one of the 99 baht fresh made pizzas.

Cheap charlie story.  One night was eating there and the waitresses were all gathered around some guy sitting at the street front counter causing a big fuss...went on for a while then he finally left.

I asked the gal what it was about and she showed me a menu where you ordered noodles or something with choice of chicken pork or beef...guy was all pissed because he thought he should get chicken pork and beef......gals were not amused as he was a jerk on top of being an idiot.

Sounds as if you encountered the OP.

If its the one close to Sutus Court,  you get a nice pint of Guinness there.  I was last in  CC during the heatwave a few weeks back now, so had to be drunk quickly.

I did order pork kebabs once and got a pork chop with mashed potato.  Bit of a comms problem with the waitress....

Hope bods can read this post clearly, there's a chap on here that keeps complaining about my syntax.

it's a forum, not an 'O' level English paper......

Every time I walk past Cheap Charlies it’s full of lonely, old, miserable, penny-pinching, expat pensioners…kinda like what the average AN poster would look like!

Maybe but waitresses often become tip Nazis, not just there

Food is basically alright at CC but I'd never leave a single baht tip there.

I might have seen you last week. 3 guys had lots of food and drinks and when the 3 bill folders came back they all pocketed every single baht and left. Not leaving a tip must be a cheap charlie thing as I'd never seen that before in 16 years of coming to Thailand.

Lol, unlike tourist amateurs, I just pay the exact amount by QR/scan when I already know I'm not going to leave a tip.

I tip normal (20) to larger amounts (50-100) at most restos, even when eating alone.

I just don't tip at places where I feel that paying more than for the food consumed isn't deserved. Like I said, I think the food there is ok.  That's not the problem.

Who could even be bothered to go and write a negative review of a 99 baht steak?? The mind boggles.

The kind of people who take the time to post on a thread about a not-so-positive review of an 199 baht steak...

I went to the FB page because that's where they post all the specials. I never intended to write a review but couldn't help myself after seeing all the posts saying how wonderful the food was, including that 150 gram steak that sells for 199 baht. It's the worst steak I've ever had in my life.

You are not the first person to say that. But as I said to that person, I would not order a 199 Baht steak there - or anywhere for that matter. Cheap Charlies has it's own specialism - bog standard dishes, well prepared/presented and very good value........ a western equivalent of Kiss Food & Drink.

I did, and got "large population of caucasian expats in Thailand". Doesn't really fit the context.

And thanks, your post got me this:

As I regard being on Facebook as the equivalent of having a STD, I would not know or care.

There is at least one Chrome extension that makes FB bearable.  FBP will allow you to hide a lot of the annoying stuff FB wants you to see so you can focus on the posts from your friends or groups that you choose to follow.  Of course, like AN there are posters with questionable motives and weird interpretations of the world.

Thanks for the advice. However, I regard Facebook as a narcissist haven.
