Pattaya — Pattaya municipal officers fined many vendors on the Pattaya-Naklua Road for obstructing traffic following complaints from residents and tourists.

The operation, carried out on August 8th, 2024, was ordered by Pattaya Mayor Mr. Poramase Ngampiches.

 

Previously, residents and tourists traversing along Pattaya-Naklua Road have complained to the city about these vendors creating traffic congestion with their sidecars while selling goods and food on the roadside.

Garbage, no obstruction, usually it's businesses complaining, Thais want those carts

These things are legally allowed on the road anyways, or has the laws changed?...

I thought I just saw a news report on how the North Naklua area represented old style Thailand and was to be preserved as a tourist hub! Yes motorcycles with sidecars (that are little kitchens) are a nuisance out on the roads, but so are cement mixers and huge coaches doing U-Turns and parking wherever they please.... don't see any effort to restrict them.

Indeed they are, but to park and set-up shop is not.

They are hazardous and obstruct traffic while driving on the roads, but not when parked.

I don't think they are registered, not taxed 

 

They've been illegally modified from original, the DLT checking stations won't issue roadworthy certificates.

Before Jomtien Beach road was one way these vendors obstructed roadways.

Weekends and busy days, they would not allow bikes to ride between traffic and parked cars.

They aren't legally allowed to block the roadways, you can't just park blocking a driving lane.

Which doesn't matter, because the police force here is a joke, so they ride around with these illegal death traps unhindered.

You are correct.   The complaints are only from vendors nearby because these carts are taking customers as their prices are cheaper    ....

They aren't blocking any traffic in the photo ....   but when moving on the road they do block traffic. 

Thailand forgets its 'cultural' heritage.

Stalls on pavements, street markets and sidecar vendors are some of the things that people remember about their visit to Thailand. Along with the smell of food cooking at the side of the road (and the smell of the drains!) and the sting in the eyes when they throw in the chillies.

Yes, they can be pain in the Rse. But small in comparison to the dodgy bribes that officials ask for and the scams that hit tourists every day.

does that include dozens of soi dogs laying around and blocking 7-11 doorways 

It's about time the Authorities checked  the Driving Licences, Insurance, &  Road Tax of these  Vendors, let alone the   hygiene  regulations,   certainly the Two I have been involved with over 20 years  have had nothing..

When start to ban this nationwide?
3-wheeled shops are a real PITA everywhere in Thailand.

Most of these 3-wheeled shops does not have insurance and Tax-id.
Everybody can purchase one of these things and go on the road without have any license.

Crikey, as a foreigner I get pulled over at every checkpoint. 

 

If I rode one of those hideous contraptions I'd be down to the cop shop once or twice a week paying fines for unregistered, untaxed vehicle. 

 

You MUST be licensed, they are over 50cc

Nore that, according to the report, it required an order from the Mayor to move them. Police not enforcing traffic laws, what a suprise.
