Tragic End to Dream Holiday: Brit Found Dead in Thai Waters

A dream holiday in Thailand turned into a heart-wrenching nightmare for an Essex couple when 27-year-old Theo Morgan, a British national from Romford, was tragically found dead in a body of water after a night out.

On a 10-day getaway in Surat Thani, Morgan, a former Metropolitan Police officer, had been relishing the tranquillity of his holiday with his girlfriend. The couple decided to join an organised pub crawl to add some excitement to their trip. However, the fateful night took a disastrous turn when Morgan's girlfriend briefly left him to go to the bathroom. During this short interval, Morgan, known for his tendency to wander off when intoxicated, disappeared.

According to Essex Coroner’s Court, the last footage of Morgan was captured on CCTV before he vanished into the night. Coroner Michelle Brown reported that it’s believed Morgan accidentally hit his head, leading to a fatal fall into the water. The post-mortem confirmed that he died from asphyxiation due to drowning while under the influence of alcohol.

Morgan’s sudden death has left his family and friends stunned. “Theo’s accidental death has shocked everyone to their core. He was simply enjoying a night out on holiday in Thailand,” said a family spokesperson.

Theo Morgan was known for his diverse talents and ambitious spirit. After earning a degree in animation, he pivoted to serve with the Metropolitan Police for four years. More recently, he was working towards a new career as an auditor with RSM, dedicating himself to his studies and future aspirations, according to Essex Live.

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the unpredictability of life and the devastating impact of seemingly ordinary decisions.

"He was simply enjoying a night out..." He was simply enjoying being so rat-arsed that he didn't know where he was or what he was doing if left alone.

gf should have checked on him near the bathroom ....  although she may have been two sheets to the wind herself ....

very sad indeed for him to be found dead in Thai waters.

Wasn't this the lad that died a while back on Koh Tao or is there another one.

He fell into a gully that had water in it. It was close to a dive school.

I hope the Thai water wasn't the same as in the klong just up the road from my condo because that would kill a herd of wild buffalo's within 5 minutes .

RIP young man.

She's not his babysitter...

How is an Essex coroner involved? Has the body been returned to the UK? Asphyxiation due to drowning? Isn't drowning enough to kill you, never mind asphyxiation?

UK Coroner can hold an inquest on a British citizen no matter where the death took place.

Drowning is not the cause of death, it’s the inability to breathe air due to the inhalation of water, ie asphyxiation, that is the cause.

Yes, it's the same person.  His name was originally reported as Theo Bailey and he died on Koh Tao last March.  Here is the original article from Essex Live.  It is definitely him.

But they'd need a body to produce a report, right?

This tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences in over indulgence with alcohol.

I have corrected the last paragraph in the article

Why are there so many nasty comments on this story?? A young man , like so many others, drank too much alcohol while on holiday and tragically lost his life. The nasty comments are just disgusting. RIP young man and my condolences to your family and loved ones 😢😢😢😢

I've seen dead fish floating in Thai waters near my condo.

This could be closer to the truth. When he was found, his phone was missing, so yet another mysterious case on Death Island.

Only if you try to inhale whilst submerged.

To get totally drunk is much more than a tragic incident. Obviously he was known for it. If you lost control over yourself it's simply said stu.....  However, too late to learn.

RIP.

As reported on AN a month after the incident.  And only then because the UK "Mirror" had published the story and AN picked it up:
