A bank employee in Mae Hong Son, practicing her driving skills, accidentally stepped on the accelerator and crashed her car through the walls of a three-story house. The incident caused significant damage to both the house and her vehicle.

At around 13.00 on October 18, officers from the Tham Pla Checkpoint, Mueang District, Mae Hong Son Province, responded to a report of a car crash into a residence at house number 52, Moo 1, Huai Pha Sub-district. Upon arrival, they found a Toyota Vios, license plate from Chiang Mai, stopped in the kitchen of the house belonging to Mr. Chamras Yenjai. Household items were scattered across the scene due to the impact.

The car had crashed through the concrete fence, the front door, and the inner kitchen wall of the house. The driver, a 42-year-old female bank employee, admitted to being the driver of the vehicle and sustained only minor injuries.

In her statement, the driver said she was practicing driving on the highway with a male friend as a passenger. As she approached the house, she noticed an open space by the roadside and attempted to make a U-turn. However, in her panic while trying to steer the car back onto the road, she accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to speed across the road, crash through the concrete fence, and smash into the house before coming to a stop in the kitchen.

Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the incident. The house, normally occupied by three people, was empty as the residents were all at a shop within the Tham Pla National Park.

The driver expressed her willingness to take full responsibility for all damages caused.

My TGF nodded off during a driving lesson on Rama 2.

Luckily her instructor saved the day.

A lot of drivers here have never driven anything other than an automatic car and have never been trained, or trained poorly and use the left foot for the brake and right foot for the accelerator.

There are so many of these incidents, usually in multi-storey car parks with  car going off the side !! (we haven't had one of those yet this month !!)...

My guess that these situations are caused by panic and the 'novice' driver stamping down on anything with both feet...

The car had crashed through the concrete fence, the front door, and the inner kitchen wall of the house

And I suppose that you believe that Hitler and Elvis are neighbours, both living on the moon.

... "The driver expressed her willingness to take full responsibility for all damages caused.",... Well that's a new one !! A Thai taking full responsibility for their mistakes.

Two pedals to choose from, how difficult is it.

The real story is she had already passed the Thai ordinary driving test and was on  an  advanced driving  course when the mishap occured.

Absolutely correct IMO.  Automatic cars in the hands of novice drivers are just accidents waiting to happen. It should be compulsary to learn manual transmission then when a driving test is passed they can buy an automatic.

There is a mindset here that in some way automatics are superior in every way to manual transmissions. One less thing to have to learn and better for shorter legs.

Cos' you should brake with your right foot , that means your right foot is off the accelerator .

now she has a drive true...

Thats  why I left foot brake, to keep my right foot on the throttle.

Helps with corners exits to keep the engine on boost.

Lighten up.

Why be so harsh on this woman

All she is has done is a little home renovation

In the next few years, she may run a successful demolition business

Whilst stating women can't drive is, of course, an inaccurate generalisation, there's plenty of scientific research on the matter of relative physical co-ordination between genders, generally finding men have superior hand-eye co-ordination skills. I mean, I think anyone going through life could casually observe that but if academic research is required...

Here's one example conclusion "The males outperformed in efficiency index when compared to females in hand-eye coordination with repeated practice. The study concluded that males were having greater efficiency index and less number of errors and less time taken compared to females."

In fact, it's almost as if men and women are different in some ways, each having their own respective strengths and weaknesses !

When anyone panics, bad things can happen. This woman panicked and look what happened. I hope she pays for all the damage.

That would be a lesson she will never forget.
