Bangkok parks

I found this very beautiful park and spent 4 happy hours yesterday. It was too short time so I'll go back one day. It's a huge park and NO Trash! The cleanest place in Bangkok.

Tickets 20 B locals, 50 farang. I don't like double pricing but in this case I don't mind paying 'cause it's so nice place.

I wish they would leave Lumphini Park alone. For the past few years they're always digging something up or building something. It's just so bloody annoying.

I went there earlier this year, it's a fantastic park.  Thanks for sharing, hopefully others can enjoy too.

After that, I walked down to Srinagarindra Train Night Market, one of the better night markets I've been to.

Been there a few times ages ago. Unfortunately it closed at 7 pm. Much too early, most parks close 9pm.

Has that changed?

I must be doing something wrong because I never pay, nor has anyone ever asked me to pay, nor have I ever seen anyone pay, when I enter this park off of Chalerm Prakiet road.  It is a very big and beautiful park though.  Another park right next to it is Nong Bon.  It is definitely worth a visit.

Yes, a very nice and beautiful park. I have never paid to get in though I haven't been for a few years so could be a new policy. If it helps towards to the maintenance that's fine as it a huge and well looked after space.

Nong Bon next to it is also really beautiful (and free). And they allow dogs.

After talking to my gf what they charged was not right!

Entry fee is 10 THB per person - same for Thai and farang.

..............................................

King Rama IX Park – Bangkok’s largest park

Admission: 10 Baht

..............................................

BUT they also forced her to buy 40 THB PARKING  ticket...  We walked in, no car. 60 THB total. Not nice!

I'd have raised hell if I'd known then. It was "farang fee", I guess. She was quiet about it.

I only saw 4 farangs during 4 h stay. All had That partner. I guess they don't like us.

I noticed all other Bangkok parks are free entry to all. Only this isn't.

I wouldn't trust information from a website.  They're often out of date.

And I wouldn't flinch at paying a buck to go to a nice park.  It keeps the crowds down if nothing else.  And it's more likely they'll maintain and clean it.  Though my normal go-to parks at QSNCC and Lumpini are very well kept and free.

The one I always pay for is the Golden Mount Temple, for the view of the city.  It's gone up to 100 baht, but still worth it when the top deck isn't under construction.

Maybe the entrance fee is related to the once a year flower show at the moment?

Went there once in 2000 on a glorious, unseasonably cool early November day. It was fab back then and happy to hear it still is. A couple 35mm film camera snaps from there 24 years ago. 👍

Have you linked the wrong park? Or am I reading your post wrong?  That link goes to Benjakitti Park,  a few minutes walk from Asoke BTS. Nowhere near Chatuchak.

It's not the money (and it was only $ 1,16) but the sneaky tactic to sell 40THB CAR PARKING ticket when a farang, me, walked in...

But I know there are plenty of poor souls no other place to go. Better not to make waves. One day I may join you if Putin takes over EU.

Thanks!

No need to get overcharged, if that was the case, as plenty of info on the internet ...

If parking fee is different from what you know, that area, may not be the official parking of where ever, or worst, it is, and fake attendant collecting money, as happens.

Agree the parks (3) near Chatuchak are quite nice, w/Butterfly Garden

A couple parks along the river are quite nice

I went there on Sunday, entered in gate 6. The price was 90 baht in total for the two of us and the car. The price was clearly stated on the sign before the roundabout (20 baht per person and 50 baht per car) I have a feeling that they likely added such a fee because of the event that was taking place that weekend. Would I go again? Not if it is as busy as that day. The park looked nice, but the parking was incredibly difficult due to the number of people there. It took about half an hour to park.

It was probably just crowded because it was a Sunday and the flower show that is going on.  The flower show is every year around this time.  It will probably end in about another week.  I never park a car there as I usually just ride my bike there and cycle a few laps around the area where bikes are permitted.  Then over to Nong Bon Park for a few more laps.  Nong Bon is nice because there is a lot of shade.  I always enter off of Chalerm Prakiat.  Whether cycling or just walking in no one has ever asked for a fee to enter nor I have seen anyone paying anywhere.  Maybe that is on the other side of the park off of Srinagarindra Rd.?

Come to think of it, that is the gate I always enter (Feung Fah Gate 6 ประตู 6 สวนหลวง ร.9)  from Chalerm Prakiat Soi 39.

I guess so; We took the Yellow Line to Paradise Park Mall, then Bath taxi to the park. No way to get in w/o paying.

The Yellow Line was interesting . NO driver! 100% automatic "Elon Musk experience".

It's funny how many different names and spellings same parks can have in Thailand!

It's same with street names etc. It just adds favor to be in Thailand. I like it.

Related to the park in the OP...  (More accurately, the lake right next to it).   Years ago, they had a fleet of sailboats, kayaks and others, along with a clubhouse for the sailing club(s).  Does anyone know if all that's still there, and know anything about their programs?

Edit:  And on an aside, have the BTS or MRT gotten any closer to that area?  That was the downside 10 years ago, no public transport to the area.

These photos are from 10 years ago...

I went there when it was still being planted out so obviously not yet developed. Be interesting to see it fully grown

Yes the water sports centre is still there and active - you see people kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. It's a lovely place.

The nearest metro is Suan Luang Rama IX MRT station which is on the Yellow Line MRT. You would probably need a motorbike from the station as I think the only access to the park is from the furthest side from the station but not 100% sure as I always drive there.
