So? Doesn't prove your point.

Addicts do dumb <deleted>. Many die. Many move on. Some like being addicts and stay in AA forever.

Whatever gets you through the night.

So how have you proven your point?  How about an example proving your point that addicts can get over their addicdtions and "dip their toes".

I suggest it is extremist ideology to claim "trump is "almost god", in  any case believed by the minority. BTW I don't hate trump just believe he's a very poor choice to represent the most powerful country in the world, along with nominating people with practically zero experience to run huge institutions. with the only qualification being a MAGA sycophant puts the world in dander of very poor decisions. I agree Biden made a poor political decision with his son, but understandable with MAGA promising to completely politicise the Justice system; you will find many Democrats also disagree with the decision.

Your posts and constant whining would suggest you do hate Trump. You have made more threads about him than some Actual Americans have.

Perhaps Biden should pardon Donald Trump before he leaves office?

Why would trump accept them? The only outstanding issue with Trump is a state issue. I am pretty certain any pardon from Biden to trump would be rejected.

Why the constant references to relapse?

Recovery is about building habits and understanding one's triggers, not about being permanently defined by past behaviors. The idea that an ex-addict will necessarily return to addiction oversimplifies human psychology.

If someone who has recovered from addiction truly understands the damage it caused, why would they risk returning to it? They wouldn't - they are over it. Ex addicts aren't like you - you've been brainwashed to think your life is a razors edge.

Why replapse? Because many addicts do.  So you think addicts think logically and rationally?  Some do but most do not. Wow, brainwashed?  Also, how was I brainwashed if I have never been to an AA or Alanon meeting or any other type addiction meeting?  So you know me or what my life has been like?  If you do please enligthen me?  I know nothing about you nor do I care to know.  Therefore, I do not classify anyone as "brainwashed" or not.  This is because I know nothing about you or your experience in life.

Lastly, I get it. When it comes to addiction and addicts you know it all. So teach your methods so  addicts can get over it and move on. I only profess to know someething about addicts and addiction mostly dealing with them as a street cop in So Cal.  It's notthing compared to what you  know but I have seen the effects of addiction up clsose and personal.  Addicts often commit crimes to support their addiction.  But accordingly to you I obsess over replapse and have been "braisnwashed" by organization like AA.  Once again you are so brilliant that I am not even in your orbit.

The "addict forever" mindset isn't the bulletproof shield some claim. Studies show 40-60% of AA participants relapse in the first year—hardly a ringing endorsement. Why? Fear and self-doubt are baked into the model. Contrast that with self-empowered recovery: lower relapse rates, a focus on rebuilding, and slips seen as setbacks, not catastrophic failures. Believing you're recovered isn’t arrogance; it’s reclaiming control. Sure, relapse is always a risk—but shackling yourself to an "addict" identity forever? That’s no guarantee of success, just a recipe for living in fear. Recovery should be freedom, not a life sentence.

No - why would you think that?

Are you telling me that through this discussion- the approach you are defending is the only one you know?

You think the only alternative is willpower?

They all lie. Why is this any different? And we now have round 2 of the biggest liar in history. The whole country's political system is built on decades of lie after lie after lie. Biden has one foot in the grave already, his career is otherwise exemplary, and he has the opportunity to give his son a chance to get his troubled life back. What would you do if this was your son? At this stage no one has anything to lose whatsoever, and the idea that this might make MAGA go nuclear and be unable to impeach or do anything else about it is compelling and quite appealing. There's no political blowback because the democrats have already shot themselves in both feet. As far as I'm concerned the only thing that matters to me is that I'm here and not there. There's no more room in my head for any of that crɑp

That's an oversimplification. Whether it's realistic depends on the individual. Determination and motivation are a large part of the equation but certainly not the only thing. With opioids and cocaine brain chemistry becomes sabotaged, so that the very tool you need to cure yourself is compromised by the disease. It's hard to do mind over matter if the mind itself is broken. Once people are in the throes of addiction It's a very complicated human mess to sort out. Both my brother and son died of their addictions, I sorted mine out as did my other brother. Older brother has been sliding back, meanwhile I'm living in Bangkok surrounded by drinking and drunks and I rarely touch a beer, I usually prefer soda water and juice.

You did say this:

"Trump abusing his presidential powers to pardon criminals should never have meant it's OK for Biden to pardon his"

Just out of interest. How is it abusing presidential power to pardon criminals????

Being a criminal is pretty much the only prerequisite for getting pardoned!

I was being sarcastic.  Apologize for that considering what you have experienced. The people that I know who have addictions live on a virtual tipping point.  Some have sponsors and call them often whey need them.  Some do not.  I knew a retired police officer who got hooked on black jack really bad.  Lost everythiing in about a year except his pension.  He was so deep in it that he decided to rob a bank in order to play more.  He got caught pretty quick.  He never admited to having a problem and never considered going to a gamblers anonymous meeting.  The only he was able to stop was to be put in a jail cell for a year. Do not know what became of him.

The people you know are brainwashed into believing they are on a tipping point.

It's an ancient and cruel belief that is propagated by AA/NA and it's "sponsors" -  it's plain as day what "community" you are in.

Bottom line - one of us is happy with something that's in the past and will stay there, the other is in a constant state of fear of relapse.

Guess which of us is happier?

How do know what my current state is?  You don't know based upon my comments on addiction.  Do you think all I do or have done is think about addiction?  Wow.  Comprehensive conclusion based upon limited information.

I know your current state of mind is one of constant fear of relapse.

I know you associate with addicts - and you repeat the AA/NA mantra.

These are things I learned from you.

In turn - what I taught you, is that there is a different path. That (for example) - you can be an ex-alcoholic, that goes to a pub with drinkers and doesn't drink because "they hate that <deleted>".
