As a matter of security, please ensure you have a STRONG password on your account. You should ideally enable the 2 step authentication system if you havnt already.

Another habit you should get into using is your email address, NOT your username when you log into your account. Your username is visible to the world, and by using that to log in any hacker is half way there!

Use 2 step authentication

Use a strong password

Use your email address registered to your account to log-in NOT your username.

The last point will become mandatory on the next forum upgrade, so get used to it now as usernames will no longer be accepted for log-in.

I guess I'll have to start a new account, as I can't even sign into my old email account.  A yahoo account, that asks me to verify, but doesn't send a 'verification code'  to the verifying email or sms to ph#, which both are active.

Haven't got a clue what my AN password is to change that, and can't click on forgot, as can't sign in to the email I use :cheesy:

I got the same problem

Can we change the email address and password, but keep the User Name?
As we can Log-In with the UserName, it should be easy to let us change the email address linked with that UserName.

And, as I am asking, will it be possible to use the "Authenticator" program to verify that it is me?
I use the "Authenticator" for many accounts, including FaceBook and Instagram and orefer it above the SMS notification.

This site supports two factor authentication?

If any of you want help to change passwords or email, then just email support, and yes,you can keep your existing usernames whilst changing other details.

Sending email, and just need y'all to change my email in profile ... TIA

I use the mobile website and it is only possible to login with username.

Just tried.

My password is a generated 14 upper/lower character/digits.

Unusually short for my customs.

I was also suprised to hear this. There's nothing important to keep safe in my account and I wouldn't care if someone hacked it. I suppose some members hell bent on post counts who live on this forum 24/7 might be upset if they lost their accounts.

Don't worry, we will still recognize your posting style.

This has the makings of a huge headache for AN and customers.

I hope they are only talking about new sign-ins on a system that does not already have your details.  If you are imposing 2FA on all log ins then goodbye.

No one has said imposing anything. It's a fact that the latest software will mean sign in with email NOT username as currently available.

What is a 2-step authentication system? And how do we enable it?

I pray you have forgotten your e-mail and take your own advice.

AN support e-mail is going to be very overworked when people ask what there e-mail is.

It will be interesting to see what verification is required to get that e-mail as otherwise I could possibly log in with another's username, claim I am them and get their/provide another e-mail.

I can live with someone logging into my ASEANNOW account. I doubt they'll get to my life savings of $900.

That will be it for me. I've no access to that email address anymore, and don't care enough to even think about trying.

Is there any clarification as to what information will be required to retrieve/obtain our e-mail address.

Is there any way of sending your OP to our registered e-mail addresses.  This might at least remind a lot of us as to our e-mail address.

Will this apply immediately after the next software update or can we continue with username until such time as we change devices etc?

As there was no answer so far, I went to uncharted territory in the Profile menu.

Under security there is an option to enable Google Authenticator.

Has to be installed on the mobile phone.

One of the so call 2FA apps.

That's all I can tell now.

I am not up to try/test.

Why do all these inconsequential sites think they're so important they need all this extra security. It's a anonymous chat room. Who cares if someone gets your password?

I just tried that it it did not work.

I always log in with my user name.

I tried to log in with my email address but the same password and it failed.

'Display name or password incorrect'

So I tried to sign in as a new user with my email address and the same password and it failed.

'Display name is used by another member'

I guess that means that it is good bye AN

Same for me this morning.
Quite confusing.

Seems a premature message?

But isn't by using email to login, your email address visible to the world?

Has the database been hacked and our login details exposed ?

If I switch from username to email address is says the password isn't valid. I've sent a message to support.

Use your imagination, dude.

Someone can hijack your ID and do something untoward or illegal online or by PM.
