What his MMA training did, was probably giving him a false sense of superiority

False? Seems to everyone else who can read thinks he won...

It's too bad calling the police first to avoid stuff like this doesn work here.

She has zero evidence of how long they have been here or for what reason.

How long have you been here? Can you speak fluent Thai?

A Belgian mixed martial arts (MMA) enthusiast, Maxim Arbille, found himself in an unexpected showdown this past weekend, when a parking dispute escalated into a brawl outside his Pattaya  condominium. The 22-year-old's martial prowess turned the tide against four Indian men, who allegedly attacked him with both fists and foreign objects.

The incident unfolded on Sunday, March 16, when Arbille and his Thai girlfriend encountered the gang's car blocking their entry into the condominium’s parking area. Arbille approached two men in the car to request they relocate their vehicle, but the attempt at civility devolved into conflict as the men refused and tempers flared.

Skilled in self-defence, the young Belgian fended off his attackers. When the situation prompted the two men to summon backup, calling in two more friends armed with a wooden stick and rocks, Arbille's training again proved invaluable, as he held his own against the increased threat.

A condo security guard tried to break up the fight but couldn't, so the police had to step in. Arbille's girlfriend quickly called the police, who arrived to calm things down and separate everyone involved.

Surprisingly, Arbille chose not to press charges against the attackers, even though he took the worst of their anger.

His decision was influenced by a mix of compassion and circumstance, as the Indian men sustained more severe injuries. In a surprisingly conciliatory turn, they apologised during discussions at the police station, leading to an amicable resolution.

The Belgian’s girlfriend revealed to Channel 8 that the four assailants spoke fluent Thai, suggesting long-term residence in the country. She conjectured they could be involved in illicit activities, presuming mafia ties given their boldness and coordinated aggression, reported The Thaiger.

In a broader context, this incident echoes a similar altercation in February, where a parking dispute in Krabi escalated to violence. There, a former Thai boxer, Narong, known as Saddam Kietyongyuth, became embroiled in a gang attack at a bus terminal following a parking disagreement.

Arbille’s experience and decision to forgive show how complicated handling tense situations in Thailand can be. Even though things could have gotten worse, the situation ended without legal action, showing his calm and thoughtful response despite the aggression.

The value of discipline and training shone through, not only in physical defence but in the diplomacy demonstrated afterwards. For those amid the hustle of Thai urban life, such incidents may serve as a cautionary tale of both the risks and unexpected opportunities for understanding.

Should of just thrown a bar of soap at them. They would of quickly surrended. 🤷🏼

Their body odour should have won the day. Did the Belgian wear a gas mask from Ypres?

Which is precisely of course why gangs are roaming Pattaya, people like you refusing to press charges when serious crimes were committed.

You go girl.

Handbags at 50 paces.

The word "false" was probably missplaced excuse me - But i believe that Martial Arts Training especially Combat Sports like MMA where the philosophical aspect is not part of the curriculum, is boosting the ego of young men. If you read the article there was another case sometime ago with a thai muay Thai fighter, also for a parking lot. I followed a similar case back home where also a Muay Thai fighter, a young guy of 25 years got killed because he had to confront some idiots who blocked "his" parking lot.

That's why is say, MMA Training, testosteron, GF nearby and most probably also alcohol it's a dangerous mix.

And the Belgian was indeed very very lucky - if one or even two of the others pulled a knife on him it's game over.

Most important is to get home at the end of day to your loved ones. A blocked driveway is never ever a reason to risk your life.

What a total idiot for not pressing charges. Now a gang of Indian mafia with machetes roams Pattaya. Thanks for nothing, Piet.

It would be interesting to see the effect it would have.  I guess deported and banned for a while?  Perhaps he was concerned it would bring heat back on him or his girlfriend.

It does seem fitting that their actions would cause them to suffer major consequences, though.  It's always nice when bullies see some justice.

All 4 spoke fluent Thai.

Obviously 4 Thai guys who hadn't had a wash for a week.

The fact that I've been here for 25 years and have ok Thai is irrelevant.

I have friends who have been here longer and speak next to none, as well as the opposite.

We're talking about a Thai girl making assumptions, which are her own opinion but posted as (in the) news.

We can all come to conclusions, but this 'girlfriend' suggesting they're illegal mafia types just because they're Indian and speak the local language is nonsense. Indians live all around the world (legally) and have great language skills.

Well I have spent most of my life (77) in several countries in Europe and the last 20 years in Thailand without ever being even threatened let alone attacked.

I guess it is a natural consequence of a good fist fight. Whenever I have a good fist fight I generally also become friends with the opponent, all the animosity has been spent.

Still, he should have pressed charges for the greater good. He clearly had nothing to fear from the 4 of them even.

How this ends next time is someone gets shot. Too much testosterone all the way around. If you are fighting over a car park, you have lost the plot.

This is Thailand. No need to escalate the altercation. The Indians knew where he lived and can at any time give him a payback. Given that life is cheap and any loss of face can have fatal repercussion, just live and let live.

MMA skills do not work against a gun and in Thailand, you can get shot over lesser altercations.

A famous mma fighter once commented that when faced with an assailant armed with a knife, the best solution is to run away fast because it does not work like in the movies. An armed assailant is unpredictable and your arms or legs is no match for a knife attack.

If he called the police he probably would've been charged with assaulting 4 of Thailands elite tourists.

really? is the police that bad?

He should've pressed charges because that's the only language people who behave like that understand, apart from getting the <deleted> beaten out of them. They only apologized to not get into trouble with the cops anyway!

The last thing that he and his young lady need is a gang seeking revenge.

Fair point, although we now also have a gang of Indians who believe they are above the law.

I find this a concern as there are a lot of them around and they are usually in good sized groups.

4 vs 1 ...........    what on earth were the Indians thinking   !!

4 onto  1  is only reserved for Thai's .....    they were taking away Thai jobs for a start.

The idea is to call the police before any assault takes place and allow the police to make them move their vehicle after they refused to do so.

Four + two reinforcements v One farang.

Almost Thai odds; SEVEN being the minimum in a Thai gang.
