A Songkran celebration on Pattaya's Soi 6 erupted into violence last night when a foreign tourist, attempting to avoid water due to a fresh tattoo, was assaulted. Police are currently hunting for the assailants responsible for the altercation, which ended with the tourist being hospitalised.

 

The drama unfolded at approximately 8.30pm on April 15, when Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Rescue Unit was alerted to an incident on Pattaya Second Road. Responding alongside Pattaya City Police, they discovered a man, aged around 35–40, injured and bleeding on the pavement, sporting a deep gash under his eye.

 

Witnesses reported that the incident began when the tourist, riding a motorbike, was unexpectedly drenched by a group of three to four foreign revellers armed with water guns. Despite the man's gestures to signal his reluctance, the group went ahead and soaked him.

 

 

 

His frustration led him to confront the group, resulting in a heated exchange. The situation escalated when one of the revellers struck him in the eye with a water gun, leaving him injured as the group fled the scene.

 

Rescue workers noted a waterproof dressing on the man's back—a sign he had recently acquired a tattoo, explaining his attempts to stay dry during the famous Thai festival.

 

The tourist received first aid on the scene before being transported to a hospital for further treatment. Police suggested he recover before filing a formal complaint. In response to the incident, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprits and remind participants of the importance of consensual participation in Songkran festivities. Unwarranted soaking could result in legal consequences for those involved, reported The Thaiger.

Not victim blaming at all, but the last place I would go if I wanted to keep a fresh  tattoo dry is Soi 6.

The Thais are usually polite and ask before throwing water . It`s the aggressive Farangs  who are the problem .

Such incidents will have a bigger on the cultural image of the country than a topless dancer.. Besides that again in Soi 6 and of course many against one and the people on the run... Thailand is not safe for tourists anymore we can read it almost daily, now Songkran or not Songkran

3 days shoould be enough as everyone knows the longer you party the more problems. Just celebrate Songkran as the normal New Year 1 day a year is enough... Safe a lot of lives, prevent a lot of injured people and less problems

Then, there WILL be payback for this affront to his tat.

 

In Japan, everybody respects gangsters with tats.

And, let's all have more respect for our tattooed brethren during Songkran.

 There is always great drama when it comes to tats of roses, for example....here:

 

 

20 years ago I was dragged to a Songkran street fight by some mad (they usually are) Thai GF.  A white guy was a bit of a novelty in that town 20 years ago, and all the local Thais wanted to do was spray me with water and rub white talc into my face.

 

Unfortunately, I had just had very important lasik surgery on both eyes.. I spent the time with my hands over my eyes, trying to keep the talc and water out!

I've made a point of leaving the county to avoid the mayhem...and the heat this month. I've come to hate this insane drunken water fight. If I was 10 years old it might be fun?

Where else in the world can you go to pretend to shoot at anyone and everyone.

It is a an UNESCO ‘intangible cultural heritage', a haughty reference for what I mostly see as a collection of infantile drunks chucking water about with sporadic fights breaking out!

You go to great lengths to have a tattoo here in Thailand, and then, in the middle of the most raucous celebration of the year, you decide to drive a motorbike through the revelations?

The use of water scooped up from anywhere is prevalent - dirty or not.

What was he thinking?

Where was his common sense that a fresh 'wound' would be safer, entering a water celebration area?

If you're there - you're a target, plain and simple.

I doubt the water-drenching tourists even noticed or cared what was wrong with him.

Yeah the other day I had a fresh bandage on my arm and I put my hand up now not to squirt me with water and they actually didn’t squirt water I think the Thai people act a lot better during these days than the foreign people who go berserk TIT

Indeed.  That's why it's so popular and appeals to many foreigners.  We're all kids at heart!  (It does go on for too long in Pattaya though).
