Greek Man Stricken by Mysterious Illness Left Without Treatment as Funds Run Dry in Rayong

"Mrs. Kotchakorn explained that her husband began deteriorating rapidly after collapsing earlier this year."

Should have been on a plane, 4 months ago, to Greece as soon as able to, instead waiting 4 months here and spending all their money.

Oh well .... Live (or die) with your choices 😎

  • They will let him die and not bat an eyelid. Nobody cares at all. This is a warning to all who retire to Thailand....have tens of millions of Baht on hand or potentially end up like this poor guy

  • I don't believe they will, Thais are a very caring nation regardless of nationality.

Getting to the root cause of sickness is probably as difficult as it's ever been. So many man-made entities to consider.

Have to look at least the pervious 20 years in many cases. Look at where the guy worked. His previous local environments. His medical history. Vaccination history.

If I was in his position, I would start with diet and activities. Add one. Eliminate another. Gonna take time for sure. Let's hope he has enough.

But Thais die every day because they cannot afford treatment.

I have both excellent insurance and tens of millions of baht, no plot lost here.

You know, that was not the point! Ok, if you done that yourself, why would you then post like you did. Do you see yourself as superior over others with the same amount of money, that you claim you got. Everyone is stupid except you, right?

Mmmmmm.... The wise words of the magical medicine man from the north pole tribe. Dude, look at the big bear and the eagle! 😂

Yeah man! Fantastic idea. Did you look at the picture? We have to assume you are going to put a man on skin and bone on a diet. Right! Same like John Cleese telling the fat man in the restaurant to eat a mint cookie. 😂

Back home, most people have health coverage so they dont deplete their life savings trying to stay alive.

And here .... deplete your life savings and leave nothing to your wife and children if you have any?

Make no effort whatsoever to stay alive?

Back home, they move you to a care home, then use all your assets to pay for the care home.

That's the way I would go to start. Diet and environment.

Look at drinks first. No coffee. No cola. Nothing with sugar in it. Just water. Some water with fresh lemon, lime or orange squeezed in is fine. Drink a lot; like 5 litres a day.

Food; absolutely no sugar. Plenty of foods rich in nutrients. Just have to google for those.

Air-con? Turn it off now. Use a fan.

Wifi; move away from major exposure areas. Wires, not wireless, whenever possible.

Medication; none what so ever.

Sun; Get into the fresh air (if that's possible). And get some sun. Aim for 60 minutes in one exposure. Might have to start off with less. If you have grass outside - as in a lawn - shoes off. Barefoot.

If I was his white-coat I'd be looking at the collapse / fainting that seemed to earmark the deterioration. Investigating causes / reasons for that is essential.

There are other, more radical, avenues to be pursued. But a 20 year history is essential before embarking on those.

Of course the above is an example only. If one is sick; go see a medical expert.

Yes, don't rely on crackpots on AN.

And ... don't quit your day job, boy.

He has had all the tests. Spent all the dosh. Nothing.

Time to try nature's methods.

To me it sounds like the poor victim could have been cheated by some kind of charlatan.  Maybe some misguided fool convinced him that advice from 1880 was the gold standard and the victim wasted all his money on very old medical science.  The internet and the 'research' some poor souls take as gospel has really led some folks down the wrong path.

Don't agree with you there Sir. I know only what I read in the OP.

"Despite spending several hundred thousand baht on medical consultations and treatment, no doctor has been able to provide a diagnosis."

The body will often self-heal if it is given the tools. Nature might be his only chance.

Those two rows show why there are doctors in the world, and then there is you.

You think Thai people are going to foot the bill for this guy's medical care?  When the wife is already saying that they've run out of money and are trying to sell furniture just to buy basic things?  If Thais are going to pay, why aren't they paying?!!

It's you who has lost the plot!

And that´s what BangkokReady had to say. Sorry dude, you are not ready for anything, more than your last breath.

So, with how much are you going to help this human being or don't you bat an eyelid and only blame others.

And you are not ready for reality.  Hence you spout nonsense and claim Thais (who aren't helping) will definitely help (even though they aren't).

Without private insurance

The downside to self-insuring, when 300K baht expenses (~US$10K) depletes the fund.

What a sad story to see such a loyal wife in a helpless state.

It is not uncommon for a patient to have a disease that many doctors cannot diagnose, this is the case not just in Thailand but also in many Western countries. It's basically a roll of the dice, with doctors it's like with professional footballers, only a small minority are any good. Plus you need to have one that has the right speciality.

It's very sad, because he's only in his 60s, if a proper diagnosis could be reached and effective treatment could be provided perhaps he would be able to live another 30 years.

What if we all pitch in with 500  baht? Set up a Go Fund Me?

Indeed, a worthy cause I think. But I would not want to send him to the same place that came up empty.

Surely they did a load of blood work already as a first step and must have some idea of what's wrong with him?

Well Sir. The clever, knowledgeable white-coats couldn't help him. But still took his dosh.

Anyone know his vaccine status?

There are Western doctors that can provide a diagnosis via Skype in this day and age.

Skype?

Poor man.

I wonder why Doctor's can't give a diagnosis? Strange.

We'll wish the best for him

I assume Greece has healthcare, surely the best thing to do if raise enough to get him back home with a flight volunteer?

Indeed they would have done the blood tests, but it takes a doctor with the will and knowledge to investigate the right avenues. Looks he did not get lucky and find such a doctor.

Such a sad story.
