Aiiiiiii Farang.

Just joking - I consider him a good pick.  Wife likes him.  And he's not a Shin.

Agreed, the Shin clan are out, Hooray

Anutin is in but maybe with his wings clipped as PP may keep him in check

If PTP remained in power they were finished at the next election. This has been brought forward to today. As of today PTP are finished.

Thank god for that

Congratulations!  Good luck.

Please go easy on the "Dirty Farangs".

And you do not understand, it is not the cannabis itself that’s the problem, but hopefully we can go back to before covid area where cigarettes started to disappear from the public eye and disturbance.

My wife and I enjoy going out to dinner both here and on our frequent travels. In the last year we have been north to both Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, we have also visited Petchabun and Loei. Down to Koh Chang as well. We dont frequent restaurants where ganga is smoked and have only smelled it one or two times which is normal these days. It depends where you are going out to. I have no problem with the smell as I have smoked herb daily all my life. But my wife does not like the smell so we try to avoid those places. Its been relatively easy and we have found some very nice restaurants all over Thailand.

You seem to have worked yourself up into an unnecessary frenzy.

I am already bizzy withdrawing my money out ...... no need anymore for ret. ext. and so not needed a full 800K on Th. bank ...... especially with latest limitations ...

NOW E-VISA non O 02   90 days.... got it now in my home country on 4 working days by email, needed doc. proof living in the country (elec. bill , water bill or similar) , value of 800K thb in your own currency on your own Country bank .... no mentioning of seasoning that ( i just have send my month statement ).....and BINGO  visa in the mailbox  ....

Why should i or others suffer at Desk 8 ..... if no need for a full year , so no need of a 1 year lease ..... so i can easily get my Target of 2X 90 days a year .... ticks many boxes ....😁

Lesson learned this last months by changing Thailand's  habits .(bank limitting )...and ANUTIN in power .....

PS: i think Thaksin is now doing kind the same in Dubai ...... extending his Dubai staying documents ....🤭

I guess you have not been following the news. He will be pm for around 4 months until new elections are held. Most of the work in Parliament will be organizing for that as well as working on the new constitution.

You really think that after years of scheming to grab power he is going to put that position on the line and risk an election........unless vote rigging gets put in place and he burns all the votes not cast for him

should I avoid places I enjoyed for years? Because some think smoking ganja in public is legal? Seems you are way out of the hot spots for pot tourism. As said I have lived all those places long time before it became poplular hot spots in south, but as said, it was only designated bars who it where smoked around. Not anything like this today. You might know climbers and divers did smoke a bit back in the days ? I was there, and i did not complain, because that’s how it was. For the rest of the places lately, well if you do not see or understand, I do not care. Just understand why Thais I general is against the weed industry. In fact the majority of the Thais is against recreational smoking, especially in public areas.

You guys keeps pushing it is not a problem and Im the one with problem. Go figure 😄 Anyway, it is enough now, I have made my point enough times to know it is not getting through for those who needs to hear it. Waste of energy, and it is your thing not mine.

Get real

Anutin can maybe be the one who gets public smoking back on track be it tobacco or ganja, doesnt matter really.

Anutin Charnvirakul has clinched the position of Thailand's prime minister following a commanding victory in the parliamentary vote on Friday. With robust support from opposition members, Anutin surpassed the necessary threshold, leaving behind the candidate from the Shinawatra family’s erstwhile ruling party.

This victory concludes a tumultuous week marked by political manoeuvres and intense power struggles.

Anutin’s win is a significant setback for the Shinawatra family, renowned for its enduring influence in Thai politics, reported Reuters.

The decisive outcome came after days of intrigue and strategic alignments, showcasing Anutin’s adept political acumen. His rise to premiership highlights a shift in the country's political landscape, potentially reshaping future alliances.

The election resolves recent political unrest and power vacuums, offering a new direction for Thailand's governance.

The focus now shifts to how Anutin will address the country's challenges and unite a diverse political spectrum. His leadership marks a pivotal chapter in Thailand's history, setting the stage for what could be a transformative period in the nation’s political journey.

And who elected him?

AFAIK there has been NO general election.

The Privy Council is only an advisory body to the King.

AFAIR neither the EC nor the CC has the power to elect a government. so how come Anutin has been "elected" as the PM?

Now if there IS a general election the political party which wins the most seats at the election gets the first chance to elect a government. If they cannot form a government on their own or in a coalition within a certain period, it then falls to the party with the next highest number of seats etc.

The only other choice is an unelected and unopposed military coup.

Anutin and the BJP are IMO only slightly better than a military coup, and then ONLY after a general election is held.

The PPP may regret what they have done, but it will be too late by then.

You really dont have a clue, as evidenced by other posts you have made today. You are entitled to your opinion though. I live here, its home and I am not making any plans to get out.

The anti cannabis crowd here on AN won't be happy.

Don't expect an immediate reversal of cannabis restrictions. The changes  benefit the corporate investors. A shake out was long overdue, and the majority of Thais support the  change in cannabis  policy,

anyone want to hazard a guess on if the 60 day on arrival visa is more likely to be reduced?

Why is she posting anyway, after her disgraceful display that accelerated the Cambodian situation.

Sadly she wasn't on the flight to Dubai.

"Dedicated to the rich, the powerful and sadly the people are a distant blur...."  Like every politician that ever walked the earth then.

I think this peaceful transition of power will be good for Thailand. Anutin appointment will avoid a power vacuum and allow the parliament to function and hopefully passed the budget which will start on 1st October and others stimulus packages before the election to boost the economy. He now has the majority in Parliamen and should help him get through most bills. The days of street protests and coups could perhaps be over.

Some times it is good to dream; but it is also wise to prepare for the nightmare.

And, as his Government possibly has only 4 months, I am guessing that there may be a lot of rapid gulping at the trough.

The question is, which military will move?

The Thai military is not homogeneous (and I do not just mean between the air, land and sea divisions); there are several factions, and divisions within these factions; as well as divisions between the older senior officers, the younger junior officers, as the lower ranks.

Exactly worst possible choice. The greatest foreigner hater Thai politics ever had, as we saw in the pandemic.
