Any Thaksin Parole Decision Is Prison Authority’s Right

Former Pheu Thai spokesman Prompong Nopparit has stated that any decision to grant former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra parole or external detention is solely the responsibility of the Department of Corrections. The comments came amid pressure from opposition groups submitting letters to block Thaksin’s potential parole, which they claim is politically motivated.

Prompong emphasised on 13 September 2025 that if Thaksin meets the legal criteria, he is entitled to the same rights as other inmates. “No one can force the Department of Corrections or instruct it to favour any individual,” he said. He highlighted that Pheu Thai is not currently in government and has no minister overseeing the Justice Ministry and therefore cannot intervene in the process.

He criticised opposition groups for targeting Thaksin out of personal grievance, warning that other prisoners eligible for parole could be affected by such actions. He also noted that Thaksin had already served a one-year sentence as mandated by law and returned voluntarily to face the judicial process, demonstrating respect for the legal system.

Prompong added that Thaksin remains the spiritual leader of Pheu Thai and his imprisonment does not weaken the party. “Pheu Thai has grown into a political institution with many capable members,” he said, citing key figures such as former party leader Paethongtarn Shinawatra and former Deputy Prime Minister Bhumit Vechachai. He asserted that party MPs remain united and committed to fighting in upcoming elections.

He dismissed rumours of internal party fractures, stating that the Pheu Thai network, including “red shirt” supporters, remains steadfast. “People who were neutral are now showing support, and the party’s popularity is increasing daily,” Prompong said. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to democratic principles and serving the public.

Key Takeaways

• The Department of Corrections has full authority to decide on Thaksin’s parole without political interference.

• Opposition efforts to block Thaksin’s parole are viewed as personal vendettas that could affect other inmates.

• Pheu Thai asserts party unity and readiness for forthcoming elections, dismissing rumours of fragmentation.

What uppcomming holiday?

All eyes are on the prison service, just let him serve his full sentence and avoid getting dragged into his mess, people want to see him serve his sentence and at least give an illusion of judicial fairness

How’s this for a conspiracy theory: he flies to Dubai. His body double’s final touch up’s checked in Dubai, the double flies back to face the music.

What ?

What am I missing here ?

Bring me up to date , because when did he serve a 1 year in prison ?

Not even a week supposably in prison and these words are spoken :

parole or external detention ?

How many prisoners have been given parole this past year that should be the question being asked by opposition parties !

“Any Thaksin Parole Decision Is Prison Authority’s Right“

Translation: prison authority officials are thumbing through Mercedes brochures to look which one to order.
