Too old for a Krungsri Banking App !

Featured Replies

I knew Krungsri were stopping the use of PCs for banking at the end of September so i dutifully went into my branch to register for a Krungsri app on my phone. The cashier couldn't register me and said it was because i was too old, over 70 !! I couldn't believe it how can you be too old to use an app. How i am supposed to check my balance, make payments/transfers etc.  I have one for my Bangkok Bank account no problem. If that is really the case i will transfer my account.

Banking in Thailand is really getting to be hard work.

You can use Krungsri Biz online on your PC. I had my account changed a couple of months ago when they first offered it with the phase out of Krungsri online. You need to check if it is still possible.

Bangkok Bank have "senior citizens" account services. Seniors can use their app.

Other "age friendly" banks include: Kasikorn Bank; Siam Commercial Bank; Krungthai Bank; CIMB Thai

At 71 I opened a new Krungsri account and staff completely set up my banking app, and added my photo for facial recognition required for larger transfers.  This was at CM in Airport mall.

Just sign a waiver that if you get scammed using the app Krungsri won't need to compensate you

You were lucky

We had this in another banking thread: Krungsri's policy is to refuse using the app if you are old

Yeah correct. Government savings bank (GSB) doesn't allow foreigners access to the app, and they don't have web banking any more.

I think same applies to Government housing bank (GHB), but I don't have an account there as they had so many requirements that I didn't bother.

LH bank has serious issues with facial recognition, as does Bangkok bank.

CIMB has access to the app, but you can't download statements.

SCB has also the issue with facial recognition for foreigners, which should be sorted since today, according to the message I received.

Will visit the branch and see how true that is.

There were more details to my interaction with the female staff member than I described in my post.  To summarize she was the most competent bank employee that I have encountered since I moved to CM in 2020.  Because of her competence I doubt that she was unaware of bank policy or poorly trained.  That's why I doubt that bank policy is as you stated.

I have many times experienced very different 'rules' at different branches of the same bank.  I would chalk the refusals to allow bank app use for seniors by other Krungsri branches up to the same variation in understanding/application of the actual bank policies.

What are Bangkok Bank's "serious facial recognition issues"?

I believe support for facial validation for foreign customers was not provided as soon as it was for Thai customers.

Their Terms and Conditions for the use of the app indicate your doubt is unsubstantiated and that no over 70s is indeed the bank policy.

Actually, I think I was 1 month shy of 71 which according to the terms of service was acceptable since I was not yet 'exceeding 70'.   We need fake ID now just to be treated sanely.

Described pretty comprehensively in the following thread, I think:

https://aseannow.com/topic/1369431-anyone-else-having-problems-doing-the-bangkok-bank-app

In any event, their bloody useless app steadfastly refuses to fire up on my phone for some ridiculous reason (whereas both SCB's and Kbank's apps fire up just fine)!

That may be caused by a mismatch between the bank app and the version of the phone's software.  Have you tried to remove the app and then re-install it?

When you re-install the app, I think will see a warning if your phone software is too old or not updated enough for the banking app to run.

Have tried removing and reinstalling the app several times, but never received any warning message. In any case, if SCB's and Kbank's apps seem to work OK on my phone, why shouldn't BBL's?

each app has it's own specific requirements and those may be different from any or all other apps.  Each app is usually designed and created by its own team.

search the internet to see if other users have or have had problems like yours.  include the brand and version of your phone in the search terms.  here's an example of what to search for:

BBL's app is just as useful as all other banks' apps but so many AN posters love to whinge about simple things that they cannot understand.

When I tried to pay my one of my utility bills (PEA or True, I don't remember which) using the BBL app back in 2020/2021, there was no straightforward method... unlike the Kasikorn app.  It seems they have since fixed that inconvenience.  I think that was the source of most complaints about the BBL app.

AI says:

The bank's FAQ page notes that, as of March 20, 2025, the Bualuang mBanking app only supports Android version 9.0 and above.

Toggle your internet connection. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data or vice versa to rule out any network issues.

The actual post was asking why 70 plus years of age is to old to receive a Krungsri Bank app. Are people in that age group greater security risks? If not why don't they cut all Krungsri Bank apps?

I am now 80, obtained and opened a Krungsri app for my android phone 3 years ago and am still using it without any problems - so far!

My understanding,  based on reading various posts on this forum   is that you will have an issue only when your Android version is no longer maintained, and your Krungsri app no longer works with that old Android version.

That will force you to a new phone ( with newer Android version) and to activate the Krungsri app on the new phone you will need to go to a Krungsri branch. At that point Krungsri staff noting you are over age 70 will deny you to activate Krungsri app on your new phone.

You will then only be able to access your existing Krungsri account by going to the bank in person.

I am age 71 and I have a new smartphone,  but I am keeping my old phone just to access the Krungsri app. However I suspect there will come a tme in the future where Samsung no longer support the old phone and the Android version will become dated. At that point in time I suspect I will have to do Krungsri transactions in person at a local branch.

I think you are spot on with your assessment..I think its a bad policy

forcing yet more  e waste    and very discriminatory to older persons

not to mention the whole  digital panopticon by forcing the use of  a defacto digital ID card ( the phone) on everyone.

Sometimes I feel like going to the bank with a wheel barrow full of 1/4 baht saleungs to count in thanks for them making it so easy for us !!!

It's just money making schemes less employees less branches less ATM's  only the phone they only try to make it easy for them to track and trace every move..say no and resist for as long as possible

once cash is gone  that's the end...literally.

That is not true in my situation. When they offered to transfer my account to Krungsri Biz online I did so, and still do all my banking on that web site. The site still offers to sign up but do not know if you still can.

I asked my Thai daughter in law to check this, she works for Krungsri, branch manager.

She was surprised and quickly said 'thers is no such age policy', She went on 'the app is so easy to use and safe and all banks want as many customers as possible using bank apps'.

She added that she would ensure all the staff at her branch are not believing there is a max age policy.
