Professor: Malaysia ‘400 Times More Beautiful’ Than Thailand

Have you actually spent any time in Hat Yai? If you had you'd know that is inaccurate; whilst there are indeed a lot, of largely Chinese Malaysians that come to see the ladies, most Malaysians, and indeed most Malay men, are there with their families. Malay men looking for a quick leg-over don't stray beyond Sungai Golok or Sadao.

I have spent (too much) time in Hat Yai (I christened it Rat Yai at the time.) I confess to not being able to differentiate Chinese Malaysians from other Malaysians hence my theory that Thai Immigration numbers are boosted by the huge numbers making the weekend trip.  I believe Sungai Golok and Sadao are in Thailand, thus your comment merely reinforces my comment; Thai Immigration numbers are hugely influenced by the Malaysian numbers arriving each week for sex/AKA leg-over.

There is no question that Malaysia is a very beautiful country with pristine jungles incredible beaches and beautiful islands. For me the issue is that the people are just not as much fun to be around

A Malaysian academic has sparked a heated debate online by claiming Malaysia’s natural landscapes are “400 times more beautiful” than Thailand’s. Professor Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff, vice-chancellor of Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI), made the comments in an interview with World of Buzz. He highlighted Malaysia’s destinations such as Port Dickson, Langkawi, Redang, and Mersing islands as superior in beauty and preservation compared to Thailand’s Ao Nang, Krabi, and Ko Phi Phi.

But it's also full of Muslims ......... one outweighs the other.

I wonder how many of the critics and skeptics have travelled Malaysia and Borneo

Come to Isaan.

You can do plenty of safe surfing there but you must use your own computer..........

At one time, credit card companies would get upset if you went to Malaysia for a holiday. After returning to Thailand I got a call from my credit card company telling me they were sending me a new card. When asked why, they said that appears I had used it in Malaysia and they had a policy of cancelling all credit cards used in Malaysia.

It was a long time ago, but shows that not everything there was coming up roses.

Professor Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff,

Seems he may have a distorted perspective and showing a strong bias towards his home country.

Might have to review the math skills and analysis since 400% would be a highly unattainable result.

Oh surely, it's a matter of taste. Some people like living in 'concrete jungles'. that is. large cities, while others prefer outer city. I prefer green hills etc. to beaches. 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'...is that not so?

There's rip tides and those pesky jellyfish almost everywhere.  And then there's sharks.

Best head back to the pub for a pint and a chat about football.

Indeed it is, but nost Thai pople doesn't give a hoot about the environment as they're too lazy to find a garbage can or bring the stuff home instead. Agree with the large cities .

Hat Yai's population doubles every weekend as hordes of Malay men arrive to check out the beauties of Thailand.

Now imagine what Thailand's 17.5 million arrivals would look like without them.

Imagine what Malaysias tourist stats would look like if 10 million Singaporians stopped popping over the Causeway.

I doubt the professors 21 million visitors for half of this year figure considering they've never had more than about 27 mill for a full year!

thai women are 400 times more beautiful - with much less acne - much nicer food - better fashion sense - a sense of humour..but let them duke it out on the volleyball court to find out the real winners..!

Probably skimmers over there or they used paper receipts or printed a receipt with your card number clearly embossed, thereby exposing your card to anyone with that piece of paper or carbon/carbon copy sheet. There was a Chinese restaurant in Seattle, not too long ago, within last 15 years which printed my card number on the receipts.

Thailand's main religion is 400 times less repressive than Malaysia's main religion.

"A Malaysian academic  claiming Malaysia’s natural landscapes are “400 times more beautiful” than Thailand’s".

400 times, how did he arrive at that number? Why not twice as good, why not 1,000 times as good! How can a beauty in anything be measured by a number?
Malaysian academics 400 times worse than academics from any other country!

25 years ago Ao Nang, Krabi, and Ko Phi Phi was the pearls of Thailand, but that is already a long time ago. Last time I visited Ao Nang I felt an immediate wish to get away again after 20 minutes, since it was dominated with indian shops and restaurants, indian and chinese tourists. The ridiculously expensive boat tours to Phi Phi islands has for many years been so crowded, that it was impossible to enjoy the beauty of the islands.

You bring up a good point and that is that we really don't know what kind of factors they're using when they count the arrival numbers, they may be including businessmen, they may be including some transit visitors who spend a few hours in the lounge, there's just no way to know, but chances are it's exaggerated.

The immediate questions that come to mind are who is this guy, what are his qualifications to make such a statement, how many provinces within Thailand has he been to, how many provinces within Malaysia has he been to, and why is he being so infantile by using the number 400 x, rather than twice or four times as beautiful?
