You forget change ..... Very few people carry the exact money.

And security........ Nobody can steal from your QR code or your QR 'till'.

Nobody can steal your money. But the government can (and will) steal your privacy and freedom. That's the whole point of digital money. They're not doing it for our benefit or convenience.

I love reading these kind of comments. These people that think their life is so special and interesting the government want to know everything they do and stop them doing it and control them.

Then they say the governments will limit what they spend and buy. They clearly don't have even fundamental knowledge of the economic consequences of such.

Thanks for the laugh.

Can't say I put much value on my privacy.

If they're not too obvious, they can watch me.

QR system works great here, you just need to get the phone app ready in advance of your turn at the checkout, then it's quick otherwise it's equivalent of someone searching around their purses for change.

Sometimes i use contactless which is much quicker and easier

Yes, that's the point they all piss about on the spot vs ready-to-go.

i'll stick to cash or debit cards in the meantime vs all this new trend crap.

Very slow getting stuck behind some granny who can barely see or operate a phone messing about with qr

I don't see a problem where i go, i even pay by QR code when I'm sitting for coffee or food, show them the QR receipt on the way out, usually they see and hear the notification first

No doubt you will be laughing in your 15 minute city pod dwelling  'eating the bugs'

watching carefully your social credit score  or risk your favourite treat

(whatever that may be)  being restricted until you redeem yourself in the eyes of the AI algorithm,   being forced to work for government controlled digital tokens the value of which can be altered in real time again depending or your credit score  or denied at a whim..or expired at a whim..its quite a laughing matter for some  for others it is a nightmare digital panopticon.

People like you find problems with everything, maybe depressed. QR works great for most people, no problem for young people I'm sure

Because there are problems everywhere: 70 plus US banks hit by massive ransomware breach

I am not depressed but knowledgeable, which you aren't on computer security.

basically, thailand chose an efficient method of making cashless payments, they have prior in this regard, if you notice each bank has their own payment machine, so instead of a vendor having one universal machine as in many countries vendors here have to have multiple payment machines at the cash desk.

other, much more efficient, cashless payment systems are available, as is used in the uk, it takes literally seconds to pay, zero faffing around. one bad decision adversely effected the whole population here, and there's no chance they'll rethink and implement a decent system. hey ho...

That doesn't make any sense, but in an isolated world it probably does

Well, you're not isolated where you are, that's for sure, all those tourists fighting for space.........😁

Why do you hate tourists so much? you don't have to mix with them, they are busy doing tourist stuff

I don't, I live nowhere near tourist locations, though I feel a bit sorry for folk like you that have to put up with them year round....😧

Always very annoying with those foreigners in queue at the supermarket, fumbling for their cash or change. Those paying by phone plainly scan the phone and it's done. But even if it takes time, a foreigner who gets rude in a supermarket queue will usually be a big coward. They will pass comment if it's another foreigner using to pay by phone. But if it's a thai the ruly foreigner will usually keep his mouth shut.

Is cash and bank visa etc not simpler than all this QR scanning crap for restaurants....?

Having used contactless card payments in Vietnam a lot this year, I've got to agree, it's quite a bit faster than the QR code scanning that's more common in Thailand.

The simple answer is Apple Pay or the Android equivalent.

You've just proved my point.

It's so funny people believe this BS.

People have been saying it for decades. Same old rubbish, just the dates moved on 10 years.

As for 15 minute cities, it's even funnier how the conspiracy theorists have got the wrong end of the stick on that one.

Keep up with tech or you'll be left behind

I only switched to a smart phone some years back because I was forced to as the S'pore sim wasn't compatible with flip phone. So far using cash works fine for me.

I'm used to having cash on me, it doesn't scare me. I think for many carrying cash is scary.

I have no problem with my old technology, do not need a VR set or 3D printer, or 95% of the pre-installed apps (or I should say software) that came with my phone.

Flip-phone and real cash.

OLD SCHOOL simple. 😎

My issue with qr codes is you do not know what they really contain as you input them into your phone or computer.  They are not human readable

And the granny who can barely see is able to whip out the exact change instantly from her purse, right?

Me too, although I added a requirement to input my pin for purchases higher than 2500.

Inefficient and annoying. I have not used cash in the EU, Japan, South Korea and North America  more than a few times since Covid. The only place I still have to regularly visit an ATM is in Thailand.  Not a fan of handling dirty money. The coins are  an annoyance.
