Popular Post EyesWideOpen Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 Are these types of attacks getting more common??? Maybe there is some sort of anti farang ground swell among Thai teens... :-( He does look like a bit of a scrapper, am surprised that there was not one or two teens laying next to him when the police showed up. Or maybe he bought into the Thai brainwashing of never fighting back, and how important it is to have a cool heart in Thailand. 7
Popular Post yummypizza Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 There's always a no apparent reason some where! 6
Popular Post balo Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 There is more to this story , I dont believe teenagers just start beating a foreigner without a reason. He must have done something wrong in the past.... 3
Popular Post EyesWideOpen Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 had a good friend of mine who served two tours in Vietnam. He told me if you are up against one guy, just stick to Queensberry rules for fighting. If six guys are coming at you, you are now in a fight for your life. So act accordingly. Hint.....no rules, where teeth make a great weapon, and an eye gouge takes the fight right out of a attacker.. 9
laurentbkk Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Pathumtani is usually quiet I have been living here for 20 years .... Thai teens dont fight without reason , either he did or said something wrong as apparently he was intoxicated. sometime those teen group don't need much to start a fight.
Popular Post robblok Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 He looks big for sure but if drunk your at a disadvantage, also many against one.. not good odds. I wonder what the reason is, if he says he did not provoce it and that is true then i really wonder why. Though we have random violence back home in the Netherlands. As to Jurgen fun to see anti Dutch sentiment havent seen it before a new thing. 3

dcutman Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Khlong Luang police said that bruises and cuts were found all over Dijk’s body. Unless this guy was just to drunk to stand, I suspect the teens have a few bruises and cuts of there own. 1
Popular Post mamypoko Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 One part of this story I don't question is the typical "many-to-one" ratio of combatants. 15

chuang Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 " For no apparent reason ".. ..why him, there are tons of farangs around.... 2

reiltin Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Some here as fast to bring that guy down as the young Thais were, don't assume nor speculate-be thankful it's not you at the end of a surgeons knife. 3
Popular Post richard_smith237 Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 Its not unheard of anywhere for bored teenagers to vandalise property, race bikes etc... its also not unheard of for bored teenagers to attack someone. As such it could easily be a simple case of this guy being in the wrong place at the wrong time with a bunch of bored teenagers out on the prowl looking for a bit of trouble. There were stories of something like this happening years ago where they rode past a westerner and hit him on the back of the head with a plank of wood... Sometimes there simply is no reason regardless of how healthy the guy looks. Just because someone doesn't have a beer gut, it doesn't mean he is a scrapper !! - Some of the comments so far defy intelligence ! 20
Popular Post humbug Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 there doesnt have to be a reason for a lone person/farang to be beaten up especailly in a poor/poverty stricken area like phatum thani where you have increases in teen gangs and drugs etc could be their way of having fun or initiation process for being in a gang etc, these things dont need any provocation when just youre at the wrong place at the wrong time as richard smith237 above mentions 3
Popular Post EyesWideOpen Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 I seem to recall another story where Thai teens attacked a farang with machetes. When interviewed by the police, they said they were simply out to attack a farang, so apparently in that case the farang was not a fault. 8

Popular Post CobraSnakeNecktie Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 They probably thought it was a fair fight.... 6 against 1. 3
Popular Post ExpatJ Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 Frankly, judging by the way many farang act and behave in Thailand i am amazed these beatings don't happen more often. 7

keestha Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 Sloppy journalism, or maybe sloppy police. The guy's first name is stated as Dijk, well, nobody in the Netherlands is called Dijk. Dijk means dike in Dutch. Most likely his first name is Dick. 1

Anyway might be a random act of violence unfortunately that happens all over the world also back in the Netherland. There were a few recent cases where the guys got caught because of CCTV. Hope they get the guys too. 3
scorecard Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 there doesnt have to be a reason for a lone person/farang to be beaten up especailly in a poor/poverty stricken area like phatum thani where you have increases in teen gangs and drugs etc could be their way of having fun or initiation process for being in a gang etc, these things dont need any provocation when just youre at the wrong place at the wrong time as richard smith237 above mentions And 'wrong place / wrong time' could be any country in the world. There are dozens of cities in the so called 'fully developed first world' where there is the constant threat of bashing, mugging, bag snatching etc. 2

Popular Post saltandpepper Posted March 18, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2013 one reason : a farang Would you care to elaborate a bit ? Do you mean that being a farang is THE reason why this happened. I have been here 14 years full time. I have never been beaten, or insulted. 5
