What kind of hobbies can you have in Thailand?

Let me ask this question to everyone.

What are or were your hobbies in your home country?

Hobbies are best when shared with friends... If you have a few mates then you will find or make hobbies or things to do. Maybe what you miss or are missing is a group of friends to spend your free time with.

Bird, bug & butterfly watching and listing. Photography...mostly nature, but all sorts. Exercise, swimming, travel, reading, movies, gaming. GF loves cooking and partakes in the above with me.

And ALOT of elbow bending! :burp:

My hobbies in my home country are more limited by climate and finances. I still have friends there. Depends on what is defined as a hobby.

Day Trading.  Open an account, fund it , not more than you are willing to lose and have fun. That's my plan when I have more time ,

and start playing my guitar again .Maybe I will volunteer and teach the kids English, just as soon as I learn my self

If you are a (bad)  musician, you can play your music much louder then elsewhere and no Thai will give a hoot....some pissed of farangs perhaps:cheesy::guitar:

Obviously, if you like alpine skiing, you may have a bit of research to do!!....

But on the whole, I feel that those with hobbies, who enjoy life, can just do the same in Thailand as back home, with a bit more freedom, provided not done stupidly or by  breaking any laws...and why not learn some new stuff?

Flying drones? Better if you are in a RC club for exemple if available in your area...

Learn to play an instrument, piano, keyboards, whatever....Thailand has some good music teachers, provided you put in some time to research and not get a quack...

Learn carpentry....I can see some smiles out there, but why not?...you could have fun making some great useful furniture elements maybe?...but again, would need some time finding a carpenter who speaks enough english to teach? .. try the farang developpers, they have english speaking supervisors with expertise..

Learn Thai...

Learn Thai cooking...and  if you are lucky you could end up having your mojo used by the teacher as desert, if the cutie is worth the dish!:cheesy:

All the usual water sports, but don't forget to have good insurance in case of a problem..

Why not try to pass a  motor boat licence enabling you to do coastal cruising around the area and pilot a hired vessel?

Look the Thai Radio Amateur Hb9 clubs...quite fun to talk to strangers on the other side of the world through ham radio....

If your health and body accepts, some Muay Thai? .. but then again be choosy on the teacher, don't go in to the clubs that entertain the western rough rogue bouncer tatooed types...

.

..and so so many more amazing things that many fine people here and where you are  would be glad to share or teach you........all depends on you my friend what you like, what you can afford  and if you feel at ease, just go for it!...enjoy this lovely country...

I have fun downloading and video editing (free) Japanese XXX porn.

I've always preferred active participation to spectator sports - although I must admit your hobby is less expensive.

I have two Folbot folding kayaks which fit into one five foot bag, or to two five foot bags. They are great kayaks. I have done trips of 120 miles down rivers. (Utah) Also took one to Mongolia and did six hours down a river with snow on the river banks. Sadly the company went out of business, but I believe somebody was selling them in Thailand. Some models fit in a backpack. You can take in a car, small plane, big plane, and on the back of a big bike. Takes around twenty minutes to assemble. Fun stuff.

Search Lazada for kayak and sort by price and the top half dozen hits are Folbot folding kayaks from 39,000-95,000.

If I were going to stay in Thailand, I'd have bought one.  Still may if I do decide to stay after my 6 month contract (that's going on 6 years now) ends.  But that's a lot of $$$ for a kayak that's probably going to be abandoned in place because it's not in the highest value category when I decide what's going with me when I leave.  One thing back in the USA where I can take 2 bags at 50Lb each (70Lb each with miles) on the airplane, but when the cost of a second 20kg bag is almost as much as the price of my ticket...

Edit:  I've actually taken to stand-up-paddleboards with folding kayak seats for portability.  Not as efficient for paddling, but I love the fact that I can get on and off the board a lot easier than on and off a kayak.  Mine come in at 19 kg with pump, paddle, life vest, etc.

Bicycling is quite popular in this area. someone in power much be a big fan because they are building a paved bicycle path between Loei city and Wang Saphung along side highway 201. That's about 20 kilometers. A waste of money as far as I am concerned but someone must have thought it was a good idea.

That's the thing about kickbacks.  Ya gotta build something, or it's just plain embezzlement.  And that's too obvious...

What hobbies did you have back home? Pretty sure unless it is something like fixing up vintage Euro cars or snow boarding you should be able to do it here (to be fair Isaan could could put up more barriers than other regions.)

I didn't have any hobbies at home. I was too busy working. Why would Isaan have barriers? I have many more things to do here than in a city.

...I had heard that but when I just checked there were quite a few links for a download..  a shame it is no longer available.. I've been using it for years..  I wonder if there is a way to get a copy?  No security issues as far as I know.. it was created by Google.. I believe they have just discontinued it.. lol..

A google search shows quite a few free photo editing programs.. GIMP, Pixlar & Photoscape to name a few.... I have't used them but they get good reviews.. worth a try..

Moving on from Picasa

We’ve decided to retire Picasa in order to focus on a single photo service in Google Photos – a new, smarter photo app that works seamlessly across mobile and the web.

You're welcome.  Loads of other free photo editing tools out there via a google search too.  I am sure you'll locate one that woks for you. Good luck in your search; I am looking forward to seeing your photos.

I wanted to learn about tantric sex as a hobby. Apparently you can then make love for hours and hours -  but I don't have that sort of money laying around.
