The Thai immigration bureau have announced the arrest of a 66 year old Austrian national for downloading and possessing indecent images of children.

The Thailand Internet Crime Against Children (TICAC) division were informed in September that someone was using the Dark Web to access child porn.

The Thais discovered that this was a person living in the Pa Daet sub-district of Muang district Chiang Mai and obtained an arrest warrant.

On November 9th the warrant was served. Pictures published on the IB website showed officers looking at a computer at the home of the unnamed suspect.

His computer and hard drive were found to contain a lot of pornographic images of children.

He was not named but faces 5 years in jail and a 100,000 baht fine. If it can be proved that he shared the images the jail term goes up to 7 years and 140,000 baht.

A Thai woman whose name was on internet usage papers was also pictured on a board next to the Austrian.

The Austrian is now in the custody of the Muang Chiang Mai police.

Immigration chief Maj-Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn was pictured on the IB site on a board related to the crime but not mentioned as having played a role in the arrests on this occasion.

Thaivisa notes that it was unusual in such cases for the suspect's name to be withheld.

Yes, informed by who? The woman I presume. Arrest of yet another foreigner who doesn't appear to own a shirt.

Could not time be better spent than making up those spiffy wall chart decorations?

Blimey, Big Joke's become a real poster child!

I wonder if Prayut will use pictures of him on his election posters next year?

Mind, only the possession of child porn is punishable, accessing websites is not.

Probably his name is withheld because his computer etc contains porn, but possibly child porn.

Thing is, it is only the "users" of child porn that get arrested if they downloaded files, uploaders go scot-free and nobody seems to be able to delete those files.

Of course, this gives the police the possibilities to arrest some "users" and claiming they did a good job, but doing something about producers of this filth seems to be very difficult indeed.

Refer FBI & The Dark Web.

Up to 10,000 Britons signed up to 'dark web' paedophile network Paradise Village ... after his site, Playpen, was taken down by FBI and Europol

Why does CM seem to have so many of these fellas?

I guess they think it is some sort of a child porn hideout??

It's world wide and seems to continue no matter what.  I guess while there is demand there will be supply.

CM has it's fair share but I suspect Pattaya has far more active pedos.  There is a difference between the voyeurs and the perpetrators.  I am not defending anyone here, both are despicable in their own ways.

Then why is his photo there?

Actually, he does seem to be getting results in a few areas (pun intended!) but the number of photos from different locations he is in makes one think of him as some kind of "Time Traveller"!

P.S. Is he still "Acting" Immigration Chief?

You have factual examples or just guessing?

Daily News as well as TVF provides all anyone needs.

This is a quality pensioner that Thailand attracts. Blame nobody!

I admire a poster who admits he's in Thailand exclusively for the food and the temples!

Chiang Mai does not need such perverts. Wonder if he has any record of such behaviour in his home country? If so it should foot the bill.

"This country is really very sick at every level. Hopeless!"

The above is just an example of one of your hateful posts about Thailand.

Who is truly hopeless??...

The 'powers' of the IMMIGRATION police never ceases to amaze me.

Great, meaning we maintain the human history with names that are at least in one way or another worth remembering...

Why did they not name and shame him as they always do here??

I suspect he has contacts high up in the system . And bribed someone.

If anyone knows his name don't hold it back !

If the police confiscate the computer, are they not then guilty of the same crime?

Quite correct, the way he is being force fed to the public he is certainly being groomed for a high position
