Chiang Mai immigration conducted a seminar for 100 school employees in the government and private sector who handle immigration matters for foreign teachers and students.

The idea was to help everyone understand immigration's procedures when it comes to what documents are required and what procedures to follow for things like 90 day reporting.

Acting chief Pol Col Pokkit Khlaipetch said that his immigration office had been asked to up their game when it came to public relations. A new media TV arm had been created to achieve just that.

The orders had come through from Immigration Bureau chief Lt-Gen Sompong "Big Oud" Chingduang who was concerned about the image of the IB as well as foreigners creating trouble in Thailand.

Naew Na published a picture of the IB chief next to his vision, 'missions' and core values.

The media suggested that those present at the seminar were also urged to call in tips and contact immigration about foreigners who were not following the rules.

Reality in Thailand is becoming worse than in Orwell's ' 1984 .

It is not only that ' big brother is watching you ' all the times , the government seems to want the whole Thai population spying on Foreigners living here ... SAD !!

Sometimes I think it would be best if NOBODY would be coming to Thailand any more  ...

Thailand for Thais ONLY ... 55

Yes stop forcing us to hire you.  Stop forcing us to pay you under the table.  How brain dead, like the schools are not in anyway culpable.  Even Big Joke was not this bad.  These people have no idea how dumb and anti foreign they look.

So easy to find illegal teachers and employers.

Ask schools to submit pay stubs for their teachers and nationalities. I could get a very good idea who might be illegal. Certainly anyone not making 40k at a minimum, investigate. Especially under 35.

Most agencies dont get WP for teachers.

Any school outside BKK is immediately suspect.

He wants people  to believe that he needs to speak to school officials.

In fact, he may already have a complete report on his desk with the profile of each foreign teacher whose profile features is invalid or incomplete ...

Such as visa / work permit / diplomas ...

Just continue to increase the PM 2.5, soon all foreigners will be smoked out.

Metaphor of the year, thanks Mate.

What Thai immigration does not realize is that they are not the only place for expats.  Panama and Georgia come to mind as excellent options.  The golden calf has been fleeced to the bone here and Thailand is no longer an attractive place for Westerners and Europeans.

I don't see what Imm is doing wrong here but many of you seem to think this is an(other) attack on Johnny Foreigner. Surely its about getting Thai business (schools) to follow the immigration law?

And on the subject of dobbing in. Surely its right to report someone who is breaking the law and surely its the duty of the police to remind citizens of this?

I'm sure every single foreign teacher in Thailand would prefer to get a work permit over working illegally.

But some schools refuse to provide work permits because it costs them money, and they face hardly any consequences.

So it's kinda ironic to tell the schools to report those foreigners, because the schools put the foreigners in this situation.

A more senseful approach would be to tell them: Report schools who don't provide work permits for their foreign teachers.

It would be quite easy for them to get rid of this. If a school employs a foreigner without work permit minimum fine for the director (personally) of 500k THB. This just makes it unprofitable for them.

When the military and police are integrated into civil society, civil society becomes a subservient pawn of those entities.
