Yep, way down. 3BB said to give them a call if it dropped below 900.549517552_2020-03-19(2).png.de5359d0403f727aa61053ee92a68702.png

Time to make that call haha.

From the results that KhunBenq has posted it is obvious that the browser is capable of showing the real speed you get, so I assume that the above result is your real speed, and the app is bogus.

If an ISP claims that only 1 app in the world is capable of showing the real result, then I know something is not right

I watch every few weeks as the red Loss of Service light is activated remotely then after 5. minutes, my internet is returned. If I do a speed test, I usually find my speed has dropped by 50% or more. as soon as I call 3BB, they inform me an engineer will check the line and call me back. normally within 30 minutes my router is back to full speed and on occasion, it shows more than the speed i purchased, for awhile ????

Perhaps it is some form of line throttling, who knows but it happens far too often.  I have set my router to automatically reboot at 2am so it is fresh for the next day although manually resetting the router sometimes returns my purchased speed, sometimes.

My problem is the ping times. I am an occasional gamer so short ping times to a remote server is vital.  I did a Traceroute to 3bb's servers at www.3bb.co.th. It does not complete after 10 minutes as many servers along the destination drop packets which is the cause of the slow down of service or the serious lag when gaming online.

Traceroute to 3bb.co.th (110.164.192.228), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets - Incomplete

I also did a traceroute to www.thaivisa.com (104.28.28.63) which completed in 10 hops giving me an average ping time of 15 milliseconds which is very respectful ping times.

Result

traceroute www.thaivisa.com, traceroute: Warning: www.thaivisa.com has multiple addresses; using 104.28.28.63. traceroute to www.thaivisa.com (104.28.28.63), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

Result : average ping time is 15 milliseconds, very good ping times.

Video on what traceroute is and does here

Don't take my word for it. you can open application 'terminal" on mac or "cmd" windows. Type "traceroute www.website_name.(com, co.th,) which ever is relevant for the website and see for yourself.

It's not just the speed of your router thats important but how many hops it takes the router to connect to your chosen website. The less hops and faster overall ping times are best.

Many ISP's use what they call "Traffic shaping" where they analyse your internet traffic and priorities or even ban the traffic, especially to porn and news websites.

Shaping is widely used for network traffic engineering, and appears in domestic ISPs' networks as one of several Internet Traffic Management Practices (ITMPs). Some ISPs may use traffic shaping to limit resources consumed by peer-to-peer file-sharing networks, such as BitTorrent

The easiest way to get around this problem is to use a paid VPN (Virtual Private Network) which basically disguises your traffic so it is unreadable by your ISP therefor they do not know what your internet request is and cannot block or shape it therefor you will normally receive the highest speed possible depending on your purchased download speed.

Many ISP's  do not like VPN's as they cannot see what you are requesting. Plus using a VPN, you can mask your real IP therefore bypassing many ISP prevention techniques.

Here you will find many countries that block VPNs. In China for example, being found using a VPN is a law breaking offence and will penalise you the equivalent of $145.

China introduced a public security law back in 1997 making it illegal to access the "foreign internet" without first seeking permission from the government. Since then, VPN services have appeared and allowed much easier access to sites and online services outside of China's oversight.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU!!!

VPN's are not illegal to use in Thailand. If you are using Netflix, possibly some content will not be available for your country however, using a VPN and changing your country ip to another country (spoofing your IP) can give you more content as you have bypassed their geo ip restriction blocking.

Another reason ISP's do not like VPN's is because you can surf illegal websites. Most VPN services are state as "anonymous" meaning they keep no records of your internet activity so your internet traffic cannot be traced at a later date however, it is not unheard of that many VPNs to record your activity so police can trace what you have been surfing for. In most instances the authorities will need to present a warrant to your VPN company before they will release any private information.

Most ISP's work on the assumption that if you are using a VPN then you have something to hide.

You have been warned!!

Are there really that few members that have a 1Gb package yet with their internet provider?

Please post screenshots from your speed test, as i need them to provide as evidence to NBTC.

I have noticed that there are others here on 3bb that have the same issue, so if I can encourage NBTC to take action with 3BB, which I feel is very likely from the conversations I had with them, everyone will profit from it.

Below snapshots of an AIS 1000/1000 plan (a.k.a., 1Gb) speedtest.net test...run around 8:15pm here in Bangkok....used an Ethernet connection between router and laptop.  But only have this 1Gb plan for 24 hours as I got a one day free upgrade for paying my monthly bill on time.  Figure I would activate the one day free upgrade to do some speed tests on a 1Gb plan that I haven't done for months and months when I was routinely activating the one day upgrades.

Normally I do not even activate these one free day upgrades as I don't notice any real world difference between my normal plan (a 500/200 plan which I have speed toggle set to 700/50) and I can never get the full advertised download and upload speed on the 1Gb plan.  And a 1Gb plan is usually of no help in getting faster international speeds over say a 500Mb plan.   What I do on a 1Gb plan are speeds all over the map depending which local speedtest.net server I use....some servers can give my around/over 900Mb....others far below of only around 500Mb...and some maybe only 200-300Mb.  It's like the 1Gb plan just has an issue in syncing-up with the speedtest server to achieve maximum speed.

Plus, all my computers and smartphones use Wifi for the connection; not Ethernet.  But I did do below tests with an ethernet connection. When using Wifi you are not going to get anything close to 1Gb speed unless you have a Wifi6 router and Wifi6 client device(s).  I do have a quality Wifi6 router...an ASUS AX88U and a Lenovo laptop with a Wifi6 Intel AX200 Wifi6 chip which allows me to pull around 750Mb Wifi download speed on a 1Gb plan....and can pull a little over 992Mb Wifi download speed when using a SSD hooked to the router's USB3.0 port and then transferring a BIG file....the SSD is substituting as the internet source.

Yeap, if a person does speed tests against numerous local servers he will probably see "big and wide" speed variations on a 1Gb plan.   Also keep in mind a 1Gb plan is not really a 1Gb plan (ISPs just round-up in its advertising/naming  of their 1Gb plans)...it's really around 940Mb max when it's working really well.

Tomorrow I will revert back to my 700/50 speed toggle setting and for that speed setting I can get regular speedtest results above 700Mb download....very, very consistently in the 750-775Mb range. No use wasting my money on a 1Gb plan if I can't get at least around 900Mb "consistently....durn near all the time--which I can't."

Thanks for taking the time to post those screenshots, as they prove that 3BB is telling porkies again.

Of course, it would be silly to expect the full 1Gb all the time, and I would already be more than happy if it was between 800 and 900 Mbps, my point was to get evidence that a browser speed test can handle 1Gb downloads and thereby prove that 3bb is not delivering what I pay for.

I have a claim going with NBTC because my speeds to Europe on my 200/200 package were much lower than what others get on the same package, and however NBTC are very accommodating and understand there is an issue, they can't do anything because there is no law that says an ISP must guarantee international speeds.

That is also why I upgraded to the 1Gb package since they have to guarantee those speeds, and i knew they were gone fail at that.

This are the speed test the 3BB technician did at my home yesterday, because NBTC had asked me to take pictures when technicians were at my place.

1 Gbit plans can never give 1000 Mbps because ethernet overhead limits you to a max of 930-940 mbps.

However, even if you can get over 500 mbps, you will never get this speed overseas unless you download from Thai servers of Steam.

2 years ago 590 gets you 100/30 mbps and everybody was happy. Now 500 makes you unhappy? Get a grip guys!

Appears the set up make a big difference....  True guy gets 960 Mbps on his Laptop, very rare to get 800 [normal 550 - 760] on my PC and on my Laptop rarely get 600.....  PC was in its day very good built 12 years ago, upgraded to Win 10 about 3 years ago....  Laptop is even older Acer is about 15 years old and still going strong with 0 repairs, did upgrade to XP a few years ago, and still used most days and works fine,  friend the other week tried there laptop is less the 1 year old MSi was just over 900 Mbps..  All my cables are Cat 9, that made a big difference to the speed as old cables were just cheap ones

At the end of the day I pay the same price now as it was in early 2004 + get free mobile phone calls [mostly use free phone calls via Line anyway] + free IPTV in Thai...  if and when I rebuild my PC with the Ryzen 5 AMD 3600  + a 2020 Motherboard then expect a better result..........

Just now = Download 791.5 Mbps Upload 120.3 Mbps  Ping 5.5 ms

Wow this thread makes me feel so old! I've had True internet for years and always paid the minimum price - about 600b - and I've been really happy. Two years ago, True said if I switch my landline from TOT to True and get both internet and land line together, they'd increase my speed from 12mbps to 30mbps - and that's what I've got and I'm so happy with it! To read about all these crazy speeds that other people are getting is incredible and makes me feel really out of touch!

I'm not on the 1Gb plan yet, I'm still on 400/400 (same price as 1Gb/500) but I thought I would share this. As we all know, the 3BB phone app has the option to "swop" your download/upload speed. I "swopped" from 400/400 to 700/100, then to 600/200 and finally to 500/300 with these results. Looks like my download speed never increases above 520Mb and all that happens is that my upload speed is capped at roughly what it should be. Something not right here, and agrees with what has been said in this thread. This is why I haven't as yet applied for the 1Gb/500 package.

I switched from a 200/200 to the 1 gig package the other day. I have a newish computer and a Cat 6 connection to my router. I am getting 800/900 download which OK is not 1000 but more than enough for me and way above the 200 i was paying for. At 590 a month good value i think.

Maybe for a change try to read the OP before you want to spout your " wisdom".

I never claimed that I want the full 1000 Mbps, but getting only 366 Mbps on a 1000 Mbps plan surely isn't right.

There is no mention at all in the OP about downloads or streaming, only speed tests to the ISP own test website.

Where in any of my posts in this thread do I even mention which international speeds I expect?

What was available 2 years or 10 years ago is not the subject here, 3bb offers TODAY 1000/100 for 590 Baht and claims in their terms and conditions that they guarantee a minimum of 900 Mbps, so I expect to get something at least near that.

So please get a grip.

In order to get higher speeds you need a high end laptop or desktop computer because slower CPU's can't sustain speed tests at speedtest.net

Maybe share your computer specs or disable your antivirus software then maybe you can get a higher speed.

Here again with some more " Wisdom "

Did you notice that the 3bb technicians did speed tests with his own laptop, connected by LAN cable, and got download speeds of 322 Mbps?

I would assume that he has a device with sufficient spec, as he has to show that there is no problem with the network.

Now for my main PC, you think that Intel Core i7 with 8Gb Ram with a recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate X64 running from a 500 Gb SSD and the PC connected by a 1.5 meter Cat5e LAN cable directly to the router would suffice?

3BB with a 1GB/100MB contract, works close as advertised

If on 3BB why does the test show the ISP is PowerHouse Management which appears to be a U.S. ISP?   I expect the answer is you were on a VPN connection to a Texas-based VPN server since PowerHouse Managements is a Austin TX based telecommunications company.

If using a VPN connection "sometimes" that can bypass any "throttling" an ISP may be using OR "sometimes" give false speedtest results....usually high results if false results.

It all about the price.. if your an old customer [me 16 yrs] they keep upgrading router and speed for the same price, when the house was build the only provider was True in the area, they have always been good, any problem was sorted there and then or a Engineer called round, mostly same day..  why change

Also are you in a area that has Fibre ?

I still expect it was a VPN connection....a Thailand VPN server that Powerhouse Management owns as VPN service providers like ExpressVPN, PureVPN, NordVPN, etc., rent VPN servers with country-specific IP address to provide VPN connection around the world.  But hey, maybe not.  If not a VPN (or maybe a leased connection) mistral53's speedtest results should have reflected 3BB (like all the other peopling posting 3BB results) vs Powerhouse Management.   Let's see what mistral53 says...was he using a VPN connection...does he have a leased line...etc.

I don't know if it is a VPN service or not, but I have in the past seen similar things.

A friend who few months ago stayed at a hotel in South Thailand, which had a True internet connection, but speed tests would show the name of the hotel as ISP.

Sinet which is basically True Online as they use their network, but will show as Sinet in speed tests.

Same for Loxinfo I guess who uses the AIS network, but will show as Loxinfo in speed tests.

Another 2 friends who live at a Condo in Kamala, have internet from 3BB and technicians from 3bb will show up when there is an issue, but their network has a different name and their monthly statements are issued by that company. Which name slips my mind now.

Especially in Bangkok you will see that frequently, as i'm aware of a few more similar cases.

So yes let wait for @mistral53 to give the exact explanation.

Cat5e perfectly supports Gigabit speeds, and I use the cable that came with the 3bb router. I have another 20 of these cable lying around by the way.

For the second computer, which I for this occasion moved from the room to near the router, I used a different Cat5E LAN cable

I did a network speed test which showed 1.2Gb reading speeds.

The 3bb technician brought his own LAN cable with him, so the chance the problem is with the cable is nihil.

Just finished doing a bunch of speedtest.net tests using two of my Lenovo laptops.  Tests done around 11am today/20 March/Friday to various servers close to my Bangkok residence.  Mostly used the speedtest.net via Chrome browser on my Win 10 machines....but also done some tests using the speedtest "app" which looks very similar to using the speedtest app on a smartphone.

One laptop, a Lenovo model 305, is around 4 years old, has an i5 CPU, 8GB RAM, and 500GB SATA 3 SSD.    Second Lenovo laptop is less than 6 months old, a model P53, has an i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and a 500GB M.2 PCIe SSD.  I used an ethernet connection with a 2 meter long CAT 5e cable.

A quality CAT5e cable.  Although CAT5e cable is rated at 1Gb at 100 meters it can really far exceed that speed with no problems....can really reach 10Gb up to around 35 to 50 meters in length which is longer than anyone in a typical home is going to use.  As long as a person has good CAT5e cables that is more than enough for a 1Gb speed plan.  But there are a lot of fake, low quality CAT5e and CAT6 cables being sold...do you best to get a quality cable.

I've done my own in home speed tests switching between using CAT5e and CAT6 cables---I get zero difference in speeds.  But with all that CAT cable stuff being said if buying or making a new cable today, go with CAT6 as it only cost pennies more than CAT5e.

OK, below are the speedtest results using my laptops.  This evening my one day free upgrade to 1000/1000 expires and I'll fall back to my 500/200 plan which I have speed toogle set to run at 700/50 instead.

I know it's already been mentioned in the thread that a 1Gb plan is not really a 1Gb plan as it will most likely top out at around 940Mb.   Many ISPs just "round-up" to 1Gb to advertised their plans which will only achieve around 940Mb data transfer speed.

But many U.S. ISPs have also come under pressure to truly advertise max download speeds on their 1Gb plans and since that speed usually can't be achieved the ISPs are renaming/now advertising their plans as 940Mb plans.

Although the plan is probably running very close 1Gb when "control/housekeeping bits" are added in, the customer will only see approx 940Mb in speed tests if having a rock solid connection and equipment which can truly handle 1Gb speed.

Yea, it's not uncommon for an ISP affiliated or really reselling another ISP's service to use that other ISPs "physical lines" to provide internet service although the ISP is using its own servers.   In a situation like that then the speedtest could easily report the ISP name you are buying the service from even though that ISP only has servers and must rely on 3BB, AIS, TOT, True, etc., that does have physical lines were you live.

About ten years ago when I was still on ADSL I only had a choice of two internet providers in my moobaan....TOT or JI-NET.  But only TOT had internet lines in my moobaan...no other provider was allowed to install lines in my moobaan.  However, JI-NET had a affiliation deal with TOT which allowed JI-NET to use their lines...basically JI-NET paid TOT a commission to use their physical lines.  A 4Mb JI-NET ADSL plan cost about Bt200 more than the 4Mb TOT ADSL plan.

When I switched from TOT ADSL to JI-NET ADSL no one came to my house to install a new phone/DSL line....I still used the TOT phone/DSL line but I was only given a new JI-NET branded modem....I went to the JI-NET office to pickup their modem.  The switch-over was basically just me swapping out my TOT modem for the JI-NET modem.  And uptime and international speed on the JI-NET 4Mb ADSL plan was much better than on the TOT 4Mb ADSL plan.  Yeap, same physical line was being used but a different ISP server was being used.  When I did a speedtest on my JI-NET plan which was running over a TOT physical line the test always reported JI-NET as the ISP.

Now back to the future....my moobaan how has multiple fiber optics ISP providers.  AIS, True, TOT, and 3BB.  And True actually provides 1Gb service via cable (DOCSIS) which they installed around a half dozen years ago but they are now using fiber optics to customers who sign up now.....True is basically phasing out/replacing their cable/DOCSIS service with fiber optics since fiber optics is reliable and cheaper to install/maintain.

It also took my attention, that is why I entered powerhouse management Thailand in google and got this result, not trying to reject your comment.

Do you still get that almost 1Gb speed without the VPN connection?
