CONFIRMED: Alcohol sales banned until further notice, some businesses allowed to reopen

Featured Replies

No bans here in Canada  so I will go to the store and get some spirits including

Corona, beer, and have a drink or two for you unfortunates, who have no

Mom and Pop businesses to get your supplies from.  Cheers

  • We'll be healthier than before, once alcohol ban is lifted.    Not a bad time to stop drinking altogether and spend the time and money to something else?   Some say that it takes 3

Western media is very tightly controlled.

Nothing can be published on any platform without the government allowing it.

Journalists need to earn money, they either comply or never work again.

Your feeling of freedom in the west is entirely false.

Used to be true 30 years ago. "D" notices and all that. Then the internet came along and all that went out of the window. Just been a free for all since.

Seriously, 41 pages in 17 hours, all about no Alcohol  sales

Did nobody else move here for the food & temples, or am i the only one?

You're just wrong.

Publish something 'they' don't like, and your youtube, twitter, facebook, tiktok accounts are gone. Your funding and your platform will disappear. (RooshV et al)

Thailand is just a bit more obvious about it.

Some inflammatory posts and the replies have been removed.

A post with a link to Bangkok Post has been removed:

26) The Bangkok Post and Phuketwan do not allow quotes from their news articles or other material to appear on Thaivisa.com. Neither do they allow links to their publications. Posts from members containing quotes from or links to Bangkok Post or Phuketwan publications will be deleted from the forum.

Not as daft as they look, these Thais.

Quite the contrary. It's BECAUSE they are daft (AND childish AND superstitious) that the alcohol ban in in place. I strongly suspect those in charge of this ban couldn't give two sh*ts WHAT foreigners think.

I completely fail to understand WHY they should give 2 sh*ts what foreigners think.

Ask Spidermike. Surely he would know.

Alternatively, look up on Google how to turn "wine" into "whine".

Anybody remember Purachai? The twisted little man finally got his wish - no alcohol for anyone.

Not sure if it was him but i do remember something about someone wanting to ban bare midriff clothing about 15 or more years ago. :coffee1:

Good bye Thailand. I will not fly so far from my country just to drink tea or coffee,

on the beach.  Thanks for the memories.

Geezer

You can't even drink it on the beach, that's banned too.

Well I guess this opens the door for black market, bribes and gangsters. These guys have no bloody idea? But I suppose their mates and the bib can make a killing.

I think what makes general Thai street food unhealthy is the oil they use (palm oil),  lot's of MSG and too much sugar in some cases. however, if you cook Thai food at home and cut out the crappy stuff, then it can be extremely healthy!

Bear in mind that much of the oil used in bigger restaurants is purchased, not for use as bio fuel but to be recycled using bleach and resold cheaply to street food vendors.

For many people it is not so much about the alcohol but more about civil liberties.

One meter distance in salons cutting hair? I guess that requires some talented skills and extraordinary long scissors...

THANK you! I am not a daily drinker, but when the itch hits I want to scratch it. I NEVER drink and drive. I live in Jomtien, and used to love going to LK Metro where I would get a room at Sutus Court for the night. I'd go out, have my fun, then stagger back to my safe haven. Tell me I can't get a beer and I want to get one that much more. That's just human nature, I'm not alone here.

There was a post on this forum shortly after the ban in Thailand started, that Laos also had one at going in effect in April.

I only parrot what that member posted

Yes it did, it ran for a week over Pi Mai....Laos New year, 23rd to 30th April....Then was immediately lifted.

Unlike the Thai government, who seem to want keep their ban going, because they can.

I believe it's a fact, that there is no alcohol sales until further notice. We can't change that by talking here.

But what each of us can do, is to direct our eagerness to drink beer to something else. We have to do that, no matter what.

It would be nice to hear what kind of hobbies people have started or continued because of the current and continuing situation. Solutions.

On Wednesday we were told alcohol sales would be allowed on 1 -2 May. What happened?

Mom and Pop shop around the corner has just doubled their prices.

I hope you remember that when things get back to normal and don't give them your custom.

If I could find a place that carried my poison, it would be worth it.

Maybe middle of May.

I think there is a better chance of growing new hair on top of my head and less hair in my nose and ears.

Define 'a lot' of money? How can not having a few beers safe you a LOT of money?? Is a lot of money to you a couple of thousand baht or so??

Holding parties has nothing to do with it, like the 90 reporting nonsense in normal times, this is just a power trip for the Thai authorities, and I'm saying this as a non drinker.
