Isn't 4th May a non-alcohol day?

They won't. On the 6th as well as they are religious holidays. But I can't believe such good news that the alcohol is lifted from the 3rd May onwards.

It may have something to do with the apparent huge surge in drug usage. My sons friend was driving for Grab and selling a bit of weed on the side. Since the booze ban he has given up his job as business in the green sector is booming apparently and he makes way more just with the bud.

Still wears his grab jacket etc as cops never stop food riders he says. The booze ban which may have saved a few hundred infections, may have unwittingly created another million or two drug addicts. That would be a serious policy fail, if ever I heard of one.

Well good news if it sticks. Maybe it's Prayut spreading false news. Just goes to show the empty heads steering the ship don't know port from starboard. A 1 day policy. This may be a world record. Please, please tell us why the revearsal. This will be fantastic to see how they will try and save face.

Oh happy days I wonder why they changes their minds public pressure through social media?

More likely pressure from the wealthy bosses of Chang. Leo, Singha etc.

They don't give a f*k about "social" media ....

I can go without a drink and the ban hasn't really bothered me as I usually only drink at the weekend and it's a few cool ones in the garden. However, I want the option/freedom to be there if I so desire to have/buy one. It's about choice and the more choice we have the freer we are. IMO there is no need to ban people having a drink at home as that's going too far. Closing bars/nightclubs/restaurants temporarily or for some holiday like Songkran has a veneer of sense to it but it's easy to go too far. Those in government need to remember that they aren't running a barracks now.

it is on my calendar and in Mrs P's mind

It is Coronation Day, normally on the 5th, but this year it is celebrated on May 4th. Non-Alcohol day..

Coronation Day

Coronation Day is a day which is celebrated annually on May 5th in Thailand. Also known as Wan Chattra Mongkhon, this holiday marks the day in which King Bhumibol Adulyadej was coronated in 1950. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history and served for a total of 25, 693 – or about 70 years and 126 days.

That has been obvious for many years now.

I'm not a big drinker but after reliving the 1920's prohibition you best believe that I will now stock my house like a bar.

Ok All You Whiners from other related posts:

Run to the stores and stock up on your favorite adult beverages b4 the rule changes again.

With all the money you've conserved during this "Prohibition", you should be able to deplete 7-11, Big C, Tesco, Foodland, etc., of their alcoholic beverages.

I hope the POS (point of sale) machines don't fail during Your purchase.   ????????

Save money? Personally I've been buying and drinking about my usual amount.

Creating ANOTHER MILLION OR TWO DRUG ADDICTS!?!? Seriously? Do you still really believe those "Reefer Madness" messages that cannabis is addictive? Haven't you heard that it's been accepted by the vast majority of the world as a much safer substance than booze, that it isn't addictive like alcohol is, and that it has genuine medical benefits? It saddens my heart to see posts like this, offering an unfair comment against cannabis when so many of us are trying to promote its benefits.

I hope it won't just be for 2 days as reported before, and then we're back to a total ban on Tuesday.

Cheers go out to all the anti-drinking puritan weirdos that are now on my ignore list.  We won't be wasting anymore time together.

I wouldn't mind except I just found two boxes of Chang. A terrible beer but now I'm going to have to drink it knowing I could have my favourite. Grrrrrr...

Hoisted with my own petard!

A big decision now for me. Years ago I used to go on booze runs to Calais, upwards of 300 bottles of wine + half a vat of beer.

The availability (just grab another bottle) started to become a problem so about 5 years ago I decided to only buy what was sensible for the forthcoming evening.

I’m tempted to stock up , hope I’m not tempted to become a professional drinker again. Can anyone  lend me a safe?

I like to have the freedom to make my own decision, if I want to buy a drink or not. Not being dictated.

I would just be careful assuming that this is a permanent condition.

I'm sure the government realized that annoucing sales would only be allowed for 2 days was a huge mistake. It would result in fighting and hoarding for the available stocks. So smarter heads prevail, they cancel that idea, and now this convenient lifting only a few days later (still early enough to allow the stores to clear their existing stocks) but by making it seem "permanent" they avoid some of the panic buying.

Nothing says they won't go back to their original plans in 2 days when the pressure from the large retailers to clear existing inventories has died down.  I hope I am wrong, but I plan to build up a 2 month buffer in case this is just another tactic. Worst case scenario, I have a generous supply that I can enjoy at my leisure.
