Man dies in high-speed crash into power pole

PHUKET: A man died after his car slammed into a roadside power pole at high-speed on Thepkrasattri Rd, about 200 metres north of the Bang Khu intersection in Koh Kaew, just after midnight last night.

 

Lt Col Thada Sodarak of the Phuket City Police confirmed that police were called to the scene at about 12:10am.

 

Police together with Kusoldharm rescue workers arrived to find a white Phuket-registered Toyota Altis saloon destroyed by the force of the impact.

Oh....plus a complete disregard for their own lives or anyone else's life.

Well if that's what's left of the car i am not overly surprised

Whatever the cause at least no one else was injured

If he killed himself due to his own recklessnes...fair play.  If he suffered some kind of medical issue...unfortunate. But he sure did a job on the car.

Don't know how digital speedos stayed on after something like this.....the battery must have disintergrated

It was an analogue display (see pics above) although it is a bit odd that the rev counter did not get stuck

I do have to point something out. All the news reports do report that the speedometer was stuck at 220 Km/h. Hang no wonder there is so much road carnage if people cannot even read a car speedometer correctly.

See the thin shorter line between the 200 and 220 mark, that's 210 Km/h.

The next big line is thicker, that has the marking of 220. Next thin line is in fact 230Km/h.

The speedometer gets stuck on the speed the vehicle was traveling at the time of impact, to aid in the follow up crash investigation.

 You are quite right Bangkok Barry. If you click on my posts 3 dots, I have the edit option too, you only have two options. So you have to be correct with your first posting. But the other posts 3 dots have only two options too.

That sounded good when you read it to yourself right?

 

The position the ‘needle’ sticks on is reliant on the impact dynamics and is not representative of travelling speed.

It has nothing to do with ‘crash investigation’. A dropped ‘speedo clock’ will register many possible final speeds the result based on nothing more than chance. 

 

 

Edit - the edit function still works (iPad anyway).
