Guidelines issued for people who had contact with Chiang Mai Covid-19 patient

Everyone who had been in contact with a Covid-19 positive woman in Chiang Mai has been advised to self-quarantine for 14 days.

 

The Chiang Mai Provincial Communicable Disease Committee said that those who experience abnormal symptoms during quarantine must urgently see a doctor and request a test for Covid-19. Those without symptoms can seek an appointment on December 1.

 

The Chiang Mai committee said on Sunday that the Thai woman aged 29 had travelled from Myanmar to Thailand and from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai when she was ill and also had a history of going to many places in Chiang Mai. More than 300 people had been in close contact with her of whom 100 were at high risk.

 

All close contacts who are at high risk without symptoms must be quarantined. If they are unable to be confined at home, the Chiang Mai Provincial Communicable Disease Committee has established a quarantine facility for high-risk close contacts.

 

All contact persons must observe abnormal symptoms closely. If there are abnormal symptoms, they will be re-tested and quarantined in the hospital. For home quarantine contacts, the village health volunteer will coordinate, supervise and assess until 14 days after contact with the patient.

strange behaviour,ill with covid symptoms but must go everywhere.what can you say?looks like the taxis were ok but the rest of the time,lets  see what the results of  a few tests say,bizarre behaviour,hopefully we will be lucky.cant she be charged with this behaviour?

... And I believe that only ONE infected crossed,  legally or not, the border in to Thailand.

Travelling when ill, going to malls, seeing a movie and dining out with friends (previous article). Not the most considerate person, definition of living in one's bubble and possibley oblivious to the current situation.

Another reason why Thailand has been so successful containing covid. A great effective system without the nonsense of other countries that have failed so dismally. 
 

They were at the forefront of it during the March -April outbreak. Thousands of volunteers over the country manning road blocks temperature checks etc etc.  

The thai bashers will be on this thread, bagging the Thais for this single infection while ignoring the millions of new infections this month in their own countries.

What is ' abnormal symptoms ' ?

I thought people know about the ' normal ' symptoms of a Covid infection .

And the asymptomatic ones , who became infected without knowing it and show no symptoms at all ? They are all supposed to see the doctor on December 1 ?

There are probably a lot of people who came into contact with that Covid positive woman while she was traveling .

A lot of them will not know , even by now , that she was positive .

She should not have traveled after experiencing symptoms of a Corona infection .

 But , you know ...

It still didn't answer the question how one could just take a bus and cross the border without any quarantine

??? There are no buses that cross the border. She probably hopped off and then hopped on another (or more likely shared taxi) after crossing the border on foot. I have crossed all legal (for farangs) and accessible border points between Thailand and Myanmar.

People normally have to do other things than to sit at home 14 days. I could imagine their motivation and possibility for self-quarantine might be limited. Also many live together with other people. Where should they go?

So you nor anyone you know has ever gone to work with a cold or flu like symptoms??

pretty normal behavior in the cold and flu season in the USA and every country I have ever been to.

especially in the land where the government tells you there is no covid why would you worry about it.

Going to a mall, dining out with friends and seeing a movie isn't WORK in my world (smile). I can understand if she was making a living but from what I read in the previous article it was about staying at a friend's condo and haveing fun.

You have to show me where the government has ever said that travelling from other countries is covid free.

People might have no symptoms and might have to do many things. Would you move to a special quarantine facility if you don't have any symptoms? I think some people will avoid this. If they develop symptoms that need medical attention they might go to a doctor if the symptoms are severe enough.

To what "reason" are you refering that thailand has been so successful in containing covid the last few months,

during the second waves elsewhere? We are at the here and now , not six months ago.

Its the retrictions on people allowed into the Country and strict quarantine to stop the virus getting back in.

Other countries have the millions of infections because they have widespread covid in the country which is not the case here.

We are at just as much risk of the same here if it returns, so there is no justification to pat people on the back, when they should be asking how it happened and looking at the problems they must now have trying to trace the contacts. But they will not want to admit.

How was this allowed to happen? What are they doing about all the other people coming across the border?

Why are they not now using this to stress how important it is to track and trace?

 

How does anybody know that they have all the contacts identified. They will not want to admit the track and trace is not now effective. 

All this appears to be are cover statements to make it look as if they know the contacts and have this under control.

Why have the numbers gone gray. They knew it was 326 quickly, didnt they?

How did they manage to get all the contacts when track and trace is mostly not being done here now from what I see.

It may have been implemented during and just after the lockdown, but then it relaxed and is largely ignored from what I see in malls, vans and buses. Maybe at most 20 to 30% in malls bother to log in / out.

At least 2. This one is 29, her friend is 26. Both working in casino in Myanmar to.... erm.... entertain lucky customers. Both crossed illegally at Mae Sai. The 29 yo proceeded to Chiang Rai and then to Chiang Mai where she went out with her friends. The 26 yo stayed at a hotel in Mae Sai and visited bars there, before proceeding to Chiang Mai to get tested on hearing her friend was infected.

If they know who all the contacts are, then why are they not in quarantine, and why do they need to issue guidelines publicly.

 

Has anybody seen whether the local authorities published pictures of the lady,

so that any people who may have come into contact may know? 

or is that an admission of problems finding the contacts.

Well what about those who got in contact with the girl and are asymptomatic ?

Wouldn't it be wise to test all 110 people close to her ?

People will not do self quarantine and even if they will stay close to families and if they have no symptoms they might infect more people ...

The answer to that seems fairly straightforward. As reported in a number of publications:

So she apparently didn't cross the border on a bus, she crossed illegally and then took a bus once in Thailand.

Single case in Thailand.  Dream on ...no wide spread testing : no cases.

Spot on.  Since thailand is “covid free” any one mai sabai would think just that.

Agreed a lot but disagree a bit, a relative in the Uk was emergency admitted to hospital in June for a stomach issue, and nobody was more surprised than him when he was whisked off to an isolation ward with Covid, no symptoms whatsoever.
