He had had too much to drink and was completely delusional. Going to take a very long time to get there then. At 384,400km comes in just shy of four years.

  • What are they are going to install, electrical connections for  Noodles shops?

Terrible reporting by the Nation again.
Amazing how often they make glaring mistakes such as that.

I wouldn’t underestimate the Thais when it come to building rockets.

Issan has had its on version of NASA for decades already. if you have never been, I highly recommend it.

The Thing is going to weigh 300 kilos?

Did i see that right? No room for certain people to send one way?

A total waist of money!

The drawing that accompanies this new report is rather misleading.  A spacecraft that weighs 300 Kg will not carry any humans..

I think the Thais are irked by the recent and successful missions by China and Japan to land space probes on the moon and a small asteroid (respectively), to collect rock and dust samples, and to return these successfully back to the earth.

But putting a small Cubesat into orbit around the earth (I mentioned this in the other, recent space thread), is rather different to launching a probe to land on the moon....

At 11 km per hour, it will be slower than a 50 old Russian car. Many people can power walk that fast.

I assume it is a misprint. But, the real question is why? What is to he learned from the moon, at this point, that is not already known? And that budget is ridiculously low. Ten times that would not get you to the moon. Looks like some sort of out of touch, Thai Air Force vanity project, designed to prevent aid getting to the masses, in their time of need.

It's going to take a while to get there. Space cadets will be beyond retirement age or dead before they get there.

Just because they allocate a budget of 3 billion for a rocket, doesn't mean it will get spent on it.

This COVID thing might break the bank long before then.

In fairness, not everywhere.  I can't remember the last time in the last 2 years, when my mains electricity has gone off for more than a few minutes and my internet is cheaper, faster and more reliable than BT or Virgin in the UK ever was. Admittedly, we live in the new EEC area, so maybe that accounts for it and I know that Nationwide, they are not so fortunate.  Either way, a moon shot project is idiotic.

Your lucky, our Mooban is only 6 Km from city centre Chiang Mai,  and it's been

the same for last 30 years we have lived here, just the other day it was off,no rain,

wind, but I noticed the house in front of us,the lights were on,it is the last house to

be built, just finished in the last year,so either he has a generator or his electric is

connected to a different supply.we and many others in the mooban have complained

to the Electric co. but nothing changes, if I could stand on the roof of my house,i could

see the generating station, so not like its in back of beyond.

Yes I am also happy with my internet, problem is electric off so is the internet.????

Thai's in positions of authority love to come out with ridiculous claims, just to get praise that they are doing something meaningful around bonus time.

We all know this, along with the Tour de France in Thailand, F1 race in Bangkok and the AIDS vaccine will never materialize, but is made great press fodder and 15-minutes of fame for some Somchai who was feeling left out.

Moon's been done. Mars is Elon's....so think about Uranus...that's probably more within reach of Thailand's dreams.

Probably a lot longer - it will give way to every other spacecraft heading to the moon and any satellite in the area as it travels there. That said, if they string a few of the new hi-tech satellites between here and there with red lights on them beforehand, it will get there quicker by running the red lights.

the escape velocity is about 11.2 km/s, so it will never lift off.

Thailand will build a spacecraft within seven years with a budget of around Bt3 billion

I'm not sure their own citizens suffering financially from the covid-19 outbreak think this is a good idea?

First submarines and now a space-shuttle. What's next? Thai electric powered tanks? A Thai nuclear power motorbike?

Thai ministers should never ever drunk dial a reporter. Stick with calling a mistress instead.

Not bad going for a nation that still hasn't mastered basic indoor plumbing or electric wiring.

Minister Anek Laothamatas announced on Thursday that Thailand will produce high-tech satellites in four years, before advancing to build a spaceship with a weight of 300 kilograms for a mission to the moon.

One way to escape the dreaded virus I suppose.

Or maybe they see space as a continuation of the threat they wanted the extra submarines for.

Where is the Thai Department of Fake News when you need them?????

I really hope they do not use the same programmers as they use for the Immigration 90 Day Report system????

That is hilarious!

Another one of General Happiness' grand plans I suppose?

Maybe they should take care of their own people before spending that much money on a rocket that will be toast after the "mission".

Truly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard here and trust me it has a lot of competition.

Why?

The only things that comes to my mind are possibilities for massive graft and corruption.

As far as I can judge, Thailand has been living behind the moon for decades. And since 2014 we have been led by what I like to call "moon walkers".

I thought I'd read and heard everything but this beats it again, just 3bt billion for exploring what's above our head! As we didn't know that already. Just unbelievable how and with what totally idiotic individuals keep themselves occupied in this country. Might create more social welfare & benefit funds for the poor or uneducated instead of this but that's probably not good for the great image of Thai society. ????
