BANGKOK, Feb 15 (TNA) - The prime minister welcomed executives of a Chinese automaker and encouraged it to use Thailand as its base for electric vehicle production where Thai workers will have jobs and improve their skills.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha received the delegation of Elliot Zhang, president of Great Wall Motor ASEAN & Thailand. He said that he was pleased that the company saw the potential of Thailand as an automotive production base in Southeast Asia.

The prime minister said that the company's electric vehicle project went along with his government's Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economy policy which was aimed at reducing oil consumption and negative impacts on the environment.

Cha Cha, again being somewhat optimistic with the truth...but the Chinese would have seen straight through his desperation...

forever the lackey, instead  why not train your  people to design and manufacture THEMSELVES,

I once spoke to a high up Director of a Car Manufacturer here in Thailand about this very subject.

His reply was quick, concise and short.

He said "its simply that they do not have the ability "

And looking at the only Thai badged Cars I have seen here ( Thai Rung ) they look like a Posh Tractor.

I am looking to buy a car in Greece , we visit there often enough and now that I am retired we plan to spend more time there, so I am researching the subject. The car tax system they have there is as follows.

Every year when you renew your registration the fee/tax is based on the size of the engine. 1.549-1.738 cc  €250 , 1.739-1.928 cc  €289, 1.929-2.357  €615 , so on and so fourth

.  For EVs and for Hybrids there is no tax up to 2400  cc (which is almost all ) and over 2400cc the fee is cut in half.

It is a progressive's policy IMO. and With the price of gas being what it is in Greece (about $5 a gallon) it makes economic economic sense.

I am looking at the Suzuki swift Hybrid at €16,000  which is a little less than  600,000  baht .
