A Thai reporter, working for a Japanese news agency, has been temporarily banned from Government House, because of her alleged negative attitude towards the working environment there.

The temporary ban followed an incident, during a press conference by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House on Tuesday, when the prime minister politely asked the reporter in question, who was sitting crossed legged with one leg pointing at the podium, to sit differently.

Ms. Natthareeya Thaveevongs, director of the Office of the Spokesman of PM’s Office, later explained that the reporter’s posture was not normal, because the upper leg was raised high, leaving her foot pointing at the podium, where the prime minister was conducting the press conference.

Surely an April fools day joke, if it is true how can they ban a reporter for having a negative attitude, she is there reporting on a negative bunch of loonies anyway.

  • Thousands of Thai's are politely asking the Prime Minister to leave permanantly...when will he listen to them?

  • All I'm thinking of is Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.

Talking of "cultural faux Pas", where did he get that extraordinary purple shirt?

The juvenile mindset examples yet once again.  To care for this nation yet witness its repeated idiocy is embarrassing...

... the faux-pas may well have been asking a difficult question...

As I understand it, you can not point your foot at anybody here in Thailand or it is seen as a bad thing and a negative attitude.  Guess when I go out to dinner and I see all of the Thais sitting in the chairs or on BTS with a leg crossed over the other and the toes pointing towards others they are in violation of this cultural law.  Time to get the cultural ministry police involved and start fining people.  On another cultural issue involving money, I watched yesterday as a Thai lady dropped a 20 baht note and the wind started to blow it, instead of just putting her foot down to stop it and then picking it up she kept chasing it until it hit the street and the note was run over by a car.  What's worse the face on the note being stepped on or being run over...just saying.  Yes I understand the culture but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta due.

Embarrassing for who? I think it's funny and highly entertaining!

It's normal posture, for a woman to sit with her legs crossed.

Also believe it would be the lower leg not the upper leg.

Yes, we understand the foot pointing thing but honestly, get with the program and move into the modern age.

The usual backward mentality; always trying to drag the country back 500 years instead of trying to progress !

In fact she's reporting on a group of grumpy old men. Must be as easy as pushing string uphill.

Next week our illustrious leader will probably complain about the colour of her lipstick.

Initially I thought it was done as an April Fool's joke, then I remembered it has been banned by the government today.
It can only be down to bad taste.

An off topic post trying to drag the US and Trump into the topic has been removed.

I cannot (and thousands of others) get my head round some of the double standards they have here...giving a woman a quick peck on the cheek here while greeting them outdoors is a no-no yet taking a leak by the side of the vehicle on the highway is fine...beggars belief.

'Cultural faux pax' isn't unconstitutional nor violation of law, while clearly Prayut's 2014 military coup was unlawful under the Constitution in effect at that time. Let's set Thailand's priorities straight in terms of cultural importance and rule of law.

I truly think he would not know these words or the meaning of them "Faux Pas" he hardly knows the meaning of anything !

You are 110% correct you can pick your nose, chew with your mouth open the list goes on and on and I get taught a new one every day latest was don't get close to a woman to say goodbye in her ear in a crowd people may think otherwise !

She should have "graabed"  909964371_Mkrab2-635x420(Custom).jpg.9bdeab3d43b6e66db15405dd2b338bd1.jpg him right away. Then he could have patted her head like the magnanimously forgiving uncle he is.
