Dr. Taweesin warns of more targeted restrictions as Thailand’s COVID-19 surge continues

CCSA spokesman Dr. Taweesin Visanuyothin warned today (Saturday) of stricter measures, to be imposed soon in targeted areas by the CCSA, as today’s new COVID-19 infections reached yet another new high of 2,839, with 8 more fatalities.

Bangkok accounted for 1,582 of today’s new infections, described as very high by Dr. Taweesin. Meanwhile, there were 151 cases in Chiang Mai, 119 in Chon Buri, 96 in Nonthaburi, 84 in Samut Prakan, 59 in Pathum Thani, 57 in Samut Sakhon, 46 in Surat Thani, 38 in Nakhon Sawan and 34 cases in Songkhla.

He said that more than 20 clusters were found this week in 19 provinces, including Bangkok, where five clusters infected more than 50 people each.

He attributed the spike in cases this week to infections in work places, group socializing, eating together, infections among family members, a lack of social distancing in group activities, group activities among elderly people, travel by public transport and misleading information provided about the movements of the infected.

All we need is a full lock down for 4 weeks, possibly 6, that's all.

The only shopping allowed should be for food, no alcohol.

Be simple and effective, NOW.

When I read, what he (the Doctor) attributes the spike to, I am at a loss as to what else there is.  Wonder if he is saying that the spike is due to everything.  ????  Hmm... that does not help me much.

Thailand better take a long hard look at India right now

This government claims Thailand is a medical hub in Asia - they better start making an attempt to do something fast with their vaccine rollout or they will end up as the Humiliated catastrophic failure hub in Asia.

You might wish it but the numbers tell a different story...

Malaysia...388,000 cases & 1400 deaths

Myanmar...143,000k & 3206

Singapore...60,996 & 30

Vietnam...2833 & 35

Indonesia...1,640,000 & 44,500

Philippines...989,000 & 16,674

Thailand...53,022 & 129

(JHU CSSE COVID-19 Data [yesterday's totals])

Compared to its ASEAN peers, other than Vietnam and Singapore (tiny population and high income country), Thailand is at the front of the pack when it comes to handling the pandemic.

Stricter measures.. come with sollutions instead of measures that ruin everything. What if the schools open? How do you test and protect the teachers and students.. Now is the time for actions. How ,when and where do you start to vaccinate?? Who first on the list? the old people? tourist sector? teachers? officials from amphur? taxidrivers? shopkeepers? businessmen?? Organize things now instead of curfews, alcohol banning and all that <deleted>

That would be true if the figures the government report are accurate. Politics and statistics do not mix.

They needed a full lock-down of all red-zones prior to Songkran.  They refused.  So now they have the national epidemic on their hands that they must have wanted to create.  Why else allow the sick to travel freely across the entire country during the holiday?  Misjudgement?  Yeah, right!

But if the Thailand and Indonesian numbers were reversed, you'd be praising the veracity of the government's numbers no doubt. Ignored...as you bring nothing to the discussion.

When what we need is the mass inoculation of the public.   All I hear is  Talk, talk, talk.  When are we going to get vaccine in our arms?

Many, me included, fear that many infections or clusters, are due to packs of loud idiots congregating for the sole purpose of getting drunk.

Just stay away from them then.

my opinion is that they will congregate anyway to moan collectively about no booze, and meeting girls. they will get infected anyway, it's not worth inconveniencing me  and many others who just want a beer during a meal or a coupe of beers in front of a good movie in the evening.

On what is your fear based? Alcohol  consumption  in groups has already  been banned in bars, restaurants  and private parties? Why ban home sales?

Clearly your view of the situation is too restricted you your own comfy little bubble. Thai men go to the nearest 7/11 or any other store to buy the cheap gazoline they call Thai whisky, and drink collectively into oblivion, after having dropped all their inhibitions and spat their Covid into each others faces.

Stay home, no need to worry what others are doing.

Sounds horrible. You need to leave in a hurry.

Cut the waffle for chissakes.  Just do what needs to be done.  Lock down!
