Police in Muang district of Phitsanulok in northern Thailand are investigating after a man ran off with two gold necklaces weighing seven baht worth 183,050 baht.

Staffers at the Wang Toh Kang Yaowarat shop in the Khok Chang branch of Tesco Lotus were in a state of shock, reported Daily News.

A man aged about 30 dressed in black with mask and hood had been in and out of the shop three times between 1pm and the robbery at 3pm.

He said he was buying "his and hers" necklace items for his engagement. He had been in phone contact with a woman while he was deciding what to buy.

He had looked at ten baht necklaces then 8,7, 5 and two baht weight. While staffers had their back turned he ran off with two necklaces and fled the area on a motorcycle parked out front.

Staffers Kanokporn, 24, and Jariya, 25, thought the man was genuine and was not a career criminal but an opportunist. He appeared agitated and nervous.

They called for him to turn himself in and return the gold for their sakes as well as his.

Muang district police are investigating.

He appears to have got a good haul. Probably nervous where he was going to spend his ill-gotten gains.

I think the only engagement he can look forward to now is one behind bars.

But most of the bars are closed ????

I wonder why for their sake?

I hope the gold shop is not holding them responsible for the theft?

Can't be many shops that would hand over 183,050 bahts worth of stuff without keeping an eye on the goods.

However.....

If a nervous looking guy had been in and out of the shop 3 times , was given 7baht

of gold and then they both turned their backs on him allowing him to let it, who else

would be responsible?

It doesn't sound like force or threats were used in this case.

I take your point of view that the girls could have been a little more aware of what was going on, but they are not in charge of security of the gold shop or it's contents... that's very much up to the shop.

As for profiling customers that's not in their training either.

Nor is spending 95% of the time on their smartphones whilst working either in their training. In an old fashioned world  paying attention to your customers used to be paramount.

Purely speculative on your part regarding their behaviour.

No female staffer in a gold shop is going to do anything to stop a robber... the shop should have adequate security in place and in the case of theft I'm sure they should have insurance cover.

A crafty criminal like this no doubt made careful getaway plans…they’ll probably find him hiding under the bed at Mommy’s house.
