My Exalted Thai Wife

What follows would seem in England to be something of a joke. In Thailand its is quite the opposite and with great merit!

Yesterday, my wife learned that she had been awarded, “COMPANION (FOURTH CLASS) OF THE MOST EXALTED ORDER OF THE WHITE ELEPHANT “, by the King of Thailand.

This follows many years of excellent service to Government and her work as Lecturer and University Director in Education in Buddhism.

In turn, this followed an honoury discharge from the Thai Army (military nurse) as Master Sergeant (First Class), BA and MA (Hons) and Assistant Professorship.

Oh yes, she has written three books as well.

Currently she is a Government Schools Inspector, working online instead of at actual schools because of Covid-19.

This woman, (nickname, Jeab) is a real lady: elegant, dignified, charming, adorable, honest, kind, generous and many other qualities I am so happy to be a large part of.

Jeab has worked hard and long for her rewards and commendations and I am so proud of her and that she chose me to share it all with!

Chris, a lucky husband!

Many congratulations. You should both be proud.   By contrast I've seen some mixed couples where the Thai lady's fourth class companion closely resembles a white elephant.

From Wikipedia:

The Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant (Thai: เครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์อันเป็นที่เชิดชูยิ่งช้างเผือก; RTGSKhrueang Ratcha-itsariyaphon An Pen Thi Choetchu Ying Chang Phueak) is an order of Thailand. It was established in 1861 by King Rama IV of the Kingdom of Siam.

Congratulations!

I had to look it up myself and ask Jeab what it really means. Wikipedia isn't quite right. The 5 years working in Government has to be a minimum before a level of excellence can be assessed for the purpose of the award. Also it requires recommendation from her Superiors that her nomination is justified and was actually submitted two years ago.

And, NO, every employee doesn't qualify simply on years of service

No, she gets a headstone for that. ????

Great for her and it seems you also like the situation.

I have to admit I wouldn't want to be in such a position. Because, I guess, as the husband of such a honorable person you better behave. You don't want that anybody sees you in one of those places where other farangs drink beer and do other things.

Personally I like to keep a low profile. Nobody gives a hoot about what I do - I like that.

and so are the rest of us. ????

We have many" White Elephants:" in my country, its just not polite to mention them.   But then again, dont Thai  just love to dress up in their  funny uniforms ad bedeck themselves in   tin medals.   However in this case, your  wife obviously  deserves her award. Well done.

What a nice post, much preferred to the negative comments often posted here about Thai women however justified they might be. Congratulations, to your wife on her well deserved award.

Congratulations to your Mrs.!!!

It sounds like she has had a great career in public service.

It also sounds like you "married up" and I mean that as a sincere compliment.

Best wishes to you both.
