Phuket officials warned foreigners and Thais in Phuket who were found not wearing face masks for their first time by exercise punishment yesterday, as a soft warning versus stiff fines.

 

A Covid – 19 measurements checkpoint was set up in the Rawai sub-district yesterday (May 14th) and was led by the Chalong Police and local medical staffers.

 

The measurement checkpoint’s main focus was on 100 percent of wearing face masks properly, including over the nose and not around one’s chin, in public. According to checkpoint officers, the vast majority of foreigners and Thai’s were found wearing masks correctly.

So the guy in the photo is clearly out on his bike ‘exercising’....  and is punished for not wearing a mask while exercising by ‘continuing to exercise while not wearing a mask’ !!!

 

Erm....   my head hurts !

 

 

I have a feeling there is strong anti-foreigner sentiment in Phuket. Wasn't this the place where this extremist group that wanted to hunt down foreigners with slingshots was from?

Morons plain and simple, their rules  stated  clearly when exercising you don't  have to wear one  but must  carry  one with you. As reported by Thai  Tiger copied from the Bangkok  Post very recently.  

Provincial officials have mandated mask-wearing in public spaces in nearly all circumstances, with the exception of eating, drinking, or exercising.

And when they do have mask, they are not proper masks but are instead worn out dirty items that accomplish little. This is farce.

What's the point of reading an OP when you have your rant prepared already.

Besides just being hilarious this is actually great. Obesity and other underlying conditions due in part to lack of exercise spike the risk of a negative Covid outcome.

 

If govs are actually interested in protecting their healthcare systems in the long term, encouraging more people to get into shape ought to be near the top of their priority lists.

actually I don't agree - apart from the slingshot group who are likely not the smartest the country has to offer - slightly behind those running the place

 

all across Thailand the police are expected to enforce rules that they themselves likely regard as nonsense - I know a few cops and they are well tuned into things and are not always corrupt and do have opinions themselves - I'll leave it at that

my Thai friend owns a franchise in Pattaya and is finding it very difficult and not getting any better - very sad really

Yah, but someone tells police to enforce those rules. They don't come up with this nonsense out of nowhere do they? Someone decided this should be done. And they are targeting foreigners, carefully adding Thais in key wording to make it seem fair, but it's very clear against whom this is targeted.

Excellent. To the whiners, ridiculous as it is (yes they were out exercising and it's nuts) cops could have been sh11tty and issued full fines. Gotta love Thailand!

There is a road junction in Chiang Mai where the lights normally operate on a countdown system. Currently at morning rush hour the bib are cotrolling the lights allowing their colleagues to check mask wearing in cars!

In the US masks are coming off whereas here they are having to be worn everywhere!

Mind you, the US have carried out an extensive vacination programme wheras here they bought submarines.

I think it's better to just wear a <deleted> mask and have done with it

Of course rather than attacking Phuket Province with old news you could have read the link to find this:

"there were more than 10 people, both foreigners, and Thais, who were found not wearing face masks either at all or properly".

So do you need to wear mask when exercising or not ? Cycling, walking or running on the beach or in parks..., how's about swimming....!!! Can they make up their mind and clarify what the rules are...., or is it prefered to be ambiguous so they can implement the way they like it ....typical . ????

Nowhere does it say in the OP they were exercising when caught.

I am thinking a few "test cases" taken before a Thai court, with a Thai lawyer representative (and foreign media coverage) might well set the reasonable police interpretation ... Personally, not exercising outside ...

 

 

Make sure to know where the checkpoints are and to wear a mask when approaching one. 
Anyway, it's nicer living out in the sticks.  Few people wear masks and there are no heavies demanding mask compliance.  Mask police are something you get in cities and urban locations.  What do you have out in the sticks?  Cows, pigs, chickens, and a whole lot of fresh air. 
Speaking of which.  Time to exercise.

Obviously they thought the maskless bicyclist who was exercising needed more exercise?

This isn't about public safety.  It's about putting the commoners in their place and showing them who's boss and who wields the real power.

 

I must admit, every time I see a fellow foreigner wearing their mask like a chin diaper, I wanna SMACK them into next week.

 

I don't care if you think it's senseless, it's the law, and every time a farang flaunts the law, it makes the rest of us look bad. For pity's sake, is it really that painful? Pfah!

Exercising is not a punishment , they should be jailed for one day if they can't pay the fine.
