Thais increasingly wary of Covid vaccines, study finds

The willingness of Thai citizens to be inoculated against Covid-19 has dropped in 2021 despite data showing that the risks are small, and outweighed by the benefits of protection against the potentially fatal virus.

 

The opposition blamed the lack of public trust on the government’s miscommunication.

 

According to YouGov, an international research data and analytics group, the percentage of Thai people willing to take the vaccine dropped from 83 per cent in January to 63 per cent in May.

Who can blame them, there has been so much false information allowed to flow from various government sources nobody believes a word what is said, plus the only vaccine that there is an abundance of is the Chinese variety which also does not instill confidence so absolutely understandable the drop in figures .......

If we then begin to make the vaccine mandatory, it is no surprise that the population feels under threat of taking vaccines with so many negative effects and no longer authorized in other countries.

I have many friends and relatives that are afraid of getting vaccinated.  It isn't just the government waffling.  There are lots of fake stories on social media about people dying from vaccines.

Yeah well... before all this Sinovac was for under 60's only... even  Prayut ducked that one for AZ

Yes they are making it sound as if they died from the vaccines, not dying with the vaccines, there is a clear difference.

 

No vaccines have been tied to the deaths of those who have taken it, it's what it is, but people will hear and see things as they do, self included, just got to sift through it all to get to the bottom of it, the facts, i.e. at the moment, no vaccines have been proven to be associated with the deaths of people taking the vaccines, those who took the vaccine and died shortly thereafter died with the vaccine, not from it.

Check countries like USA that even have Pfizer, Moderna & J&J to choose from....See 40-45% have been vaccinated

How does one combat this hesitancy? (I presume someone has asked why there is so much hesitancy?)

Mandatory vaccinations for all? Jail time for those who refuse? Jail time for those who spread false information? 

 

How does one combat death rate per covid infection versus perceived injury because of the vaccination? (If that's the reason for the hesitancy, see above.)

I mention this a few times before, under normal circumstances, medicines are only allowed on the market after 5 years of testing.

What about all this vaccines??

I'm all for vaccination for various reasons. Had my Astra x2 in Sydney and now in Bangkok quarantine. 

Covid IFR (infection fatality rate) has been determined by US CDC to be around 0.6% and vast majority of deaths are people over 70, with co-morbidities. So, 99.5% chance of surviving for healthy people is probably an understatement. More like 99.9%

Thailand is  giving  the world a good lesson on how to mismanage a vaccine program.

This is what happens when  military with no understanding of public health is in control.

Thailand had a highly regarded vaccination strategy for other infectious disease like measles, hepatitis and so on. It was run by public health people who knew their community and  people who were to vaccinated.

Pretty sure China's history of vaccine scandals and the not-so-encouraging data available from the Sinovac vaccine has something to do with it, as well as the banning of AstraZenica in certain countries. 

 

If Thailand got the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines the numbers would've gone the other way.

 

Thai gov't handling of the vaccine process has been a total disaster, and ever since the 3rd wave hit it has just gone downhill with the entire country, looking like the gov't has just given up at times. Scandalous.
