PHUKET: Phuket officials are claiming that about 74% of people on the island have received at least one vaccination injection in the mass vaccination campaign across the island.

 

According to a report by the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket) posted earlier today (June 17), Phuket Vice Governor Pichet Panapong said yesterday that about 74% of people in Phuket have received a vaccination injection.

 

Speaking at a meeting at Phuket International Airport, Vice Governor Pichet presented vaccination figures by referring to three groups of people: people registered as living in Phuket, people in Phuket registered as living in other provinces, and migrant workers and expats.

if you count only those who pay taxes in Phuket, numbers are probably 500% by now

They have it backwards.

All Phuket residents should be wearing a wristband if they have had 2 vaccinations.

These clowns do not realise that they can fudge the figure however they like but at the end of the day false figures and ridiculous claims will not stop the spread of the virus. Only mass vaccinations are he answer.

Yep that's it, the figure I was looking for.

First the island was defined as +- 600k and needed 465 people fully vaccinated with 2 shots for 930,000 shots required. This was the number even in the last week of May being repeated.

Then someone pointed out the 12 week delay in AZ shots.. And quietly that became one shot of AZ. 

Then the vaccine delays and it became 1 shot of anything.. 

Then the 465k population gets redefined to only required population.. 

Then he gets out some magic calculator and says that because 74% of the required population (needed to be ALL of them !!) has had a single dose they have succeeded.. This is Thai success !! 

At best they have managed about mid 3xx,xxx doses from the initial plan of 930,000 doses. It 'might' get to 400k something in the next 2 weeks. Less than half. 

With an already ‘mixed’ reputation, I would be advising Phuket to tread carefully with this re-opening. A misfire, particularly if a lack of transparency is involved, could be quite damaging.

 

However, given my previous visits to this somewhat odious money-grabbing little island, enriched by foreigners, I doubt they will show any measure of caution.

One shot of Sinovac for nearly everyone in Phuket. That will do the job. Said nobody, including the manufacturer.

The " False figures ' and ridiculous claims over the number of people who are fully Vaccinated, is a very dangerous game that is being played.

Should everything with the Phuket Sandbox go well, and to plan, with no serious repercussions from the actions taken, then the game has been won.

However, the flip side is that everything could  go wrong, and Tourists could possibly carry Covid back to their relative Nations from Phuket, or become seriously Ill whilst on Holiday, or possibly even spread Covid that they have Imported, and has not been detected. Etc.

Then the Game has been Lost.

But the aftermath of the failure will not just be felt in the short term by Thailand, but could obliterate the whole Tourism Industry for a number of Years until trust in the capability of Thailand to be honest and open about such matters as Tourist Safety Etc is regained.

A very high stakes Gamble.

 

Great Now move all the prisoners construction workers market operatives and HiSos Bangkok bar fly's party animals onto the island and pull up the drawbridge. They will all be safe on Patrick McGoohan's Island!

Maybe the Governor of Phuket should be the covid 19 Czar.

When the hundred or so foreign tourists who are willing to be monitored 24 hours a day arrive, and there is an increase in positive cases, the Thai authorities will have a scapegoat to blame.

I'm waiting for my shots starting in October! I can't control vaccine compliance,by others !
