your friends at the Covid Denier Lie Factory never bothered to explain to you that medical professionals can easily distinguish between deaths caused by Covid, and other diseases. I know you are not a medical professional, so you have to rely on those people who send you stuff on the internet for your information. But why not rely on actual medical professionals instead?

These are the official surrounding Provinces of Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, and Samut Sakhon. This is relevant because yesterday I watched the CCSA daily briefing in English for a while until the spokesperson mentioned this then I just turned it off astounded.

 

He said that since 1st April they had conducted a total of 285,000 active case finding tests in Bangkok and the surrounding Provinces. This equates to just around 3,500 tests daily spread over Bangkok and its 5 peripheral provinces. A pathetic number of tests to find cases. Thats less than 583 tests per province including Bangkok although obviously some will get less as Bangkok would be weighted with more of the share I guess.

 

He also mentioned there are now 94 active clusters in Bangkok and yesterday covid cases were recorded in 59 Provinces.

“The inadequacy of hospital beds has resulted in the department’s bed allotment system via hotline 1668 becoming extremely backed up,” Somsak said.

“The department is working with all related parties to find new beds for Covid-19 patients as soon as possible,” he added.

Thanks but my initial post to him was sarcasm at it's best for the morning cup of coffee.  I then responded with information to get him up to speed on the why...Enjoy your day.  Covid is wandering in the hallways, we just have to learn how to avoid it by using all of the tools we have been given.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the Covid bed this morning when you saw that the numbers were what they were and decided to filet everyone.....nowhere did he deny covid, he asked a question and I made a sarcastic comment at first, but then enlightened him with some information.  Something you could have also done.  Covid precautions and the way we are treating it with social distancing etc... is a prime reason it has decreased......try and be someone who rides the middle rail and see's both sides of the equation.  Well, I know that's hard, but I have learned.

If your referring to tourists. For places such as the sandbox those folk will be arriving fully vaccinated. 

The ICU problem is of more concern to us expats living here and have not received and form of vaccination. Also extremely slow roll out.

That's ICU beds.  ICU's treat critically sick patients.  If you get in aa car accident, motorcycle accident, etc.  They are not "beds".  They are specialized centres.

What happens when ICU's are full?

Surgeries start to get cancelled.  Have cancer and need an operation?  Maybe it gets postponed.  Need emergency surgery?  not going to happen.

This is what happens when nurses and health workers get infected, the hospital has to close services..........aside from the health workers who also suffer.

 

Thirty-nine staffs at the Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital were infected with Covid, the hospital said on Wednesday. The hospital is still open but they have cut down their services by 50%.

Yes I do understand the dire situation and it's not good.  

And I re-assert that it is an inappropriate place to go for a holiday.  When a pandemic is in full swing out of control and there is not a stable health care system it's purely foolish to go there on a care free holiday.

Again, there will be no real tourism until Thailand has enough vaccines to get this under control.

I think ICU beds are still available at private hospitals (the article referred to "state" hospitals) so presumably tourists will be fully insured and be treated there.  Until those beds are full!

We get a lot of posters here who start off with having questions, but then developing into full blown Deniers if anyone takes their bait. If this poster really woke up this morning wondering why numbers of flu victims is lower now, despite social distancing and face masks, then I am sorry for doubting him. But normally these posters move to “Covid is the same as the flu, it’s all a hoax” quickly.

I have a feeling that prisoners are pretty much ignored. If they don’t have very severe symptoms, I suspect they get short shrift. 36 is certainly the lowest for a long time, if not ever, but who knows what process is in place for counting prison cases. 
 

maybe they are saving them up until there is a quiet day on the community cases, so that they can be released without creating a bumper day. It’s just impossible to say.

What is going on in Thailand is simple lunacy.

They dropped the ball on these vaccines, and believe me its going to be a long long time until this starts dropping.  It may not be this year or the latter half of next year.  By this time next year it may be better, but I don't personally see it any better until at least then.  

There's a lot of expats who get excited and want to visit and that's fine and dandy but remember this isn't really tourism on a large scale.  This simply will not occur, and I'd bet every last cent I have on that.

That would certainly be a factor if waging a war against the virus with the intention of controlling it and reducing cases.

 

Maybe the authorities just over looked it. But I feel they have simply relegated the objective of virus control to a lower priority in order to focus on tourists who spend money.

The number of infections is typically a few thousand per day, but they don’t test much. Hospitals occasionally are swamped. Most people die at home. Few are vaccinated.

 

Perhaps this is the model for Thailand.

And now let's do the math.  

With the new variants, two doses are required not one previously that north america has by and large enjoyed to this point.  One dose is only 30 percent effective against it which is far from ideal.

By my calculations, ten million doses a month will do it.  And you need that many every month to get to 2 doses of sixty million people.  It's a grim thought but that's the way that it is.  

Thailand is nowhere near ten million doses a month.  

What this means is there is no way that I'll be going there this high season.  Not a single chance.
