BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) aims to offer “city bubble” and activity-based travel agreement in “sandbox” areas, to ease quarantine requirements both in Thailand and in the visitor’s home country.

TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said, even though international arrivals can visit “sandbox” areas with quarantine-free entry, they might face quarantine back home, as Thailand is still perceived as high risk.

He said the travel bubbles, under sealed routes, can be conducted based on activities, such as “wedding bubbles” and “baby bubbles”.

Mr Yuthasak said the TAT will work with the Foreign Affairs Ministry to communicate with embassies in Thailand that “sandbox” sites, like Phuket and Koh Samui, are safe with low numbers of new cases.

Meanwhile, the agency will build travel confidence and encourage other countries to ease travel restrictions with Thailand, in order to loosen quarantine requirements when tourists return home.

  • So they are not going to change Thailand policy, only try convince other governments to change policy by convincing them Thailand is safe.   Got it.

Sorry, what is a "baby bubble"?

Foreigners come to Thailand to purchase babies? That whole surrogate thing went south, I thought?

every departing tourist will get this letter:

Dear (insert tourist's home country),

We promise that your citizen, now that they have spent the predetermined amount of money here in Thailand to qualify for this letter, is not infected with covid. Based on this, your quarantine rules do not apply to the holder of this letter

best wishes,

baby bubbles”

He's cocooned in bubble wrap from reality coming up with stuff like this now ..

All that is needed to make babies is a partner then a Vesta Chow mein for 2 , 6 bottles of Cobra , some candles if your a real romantic and a donk movie offa smut'hub if you need some stimulus .. you do not need to fly 000's of K's to be herded around like some diseased livestock ..

Full confirmation that these people are off their trolleys is contained above ..

Can someone put that into simple English.

What's the actual plan. I have read it few times. Can't understand the proposal.

That's the point. Meaningless drivel; these announcements are getting much more creative in their ability to say absolutely nothing, or with an inbuilt function of being able to walk back what "might" have been said, or understood to have been said.

That's the trick!

I'm normally very positive, but I'm unfortunately beginning to be quite skeptical when reading about something from TAT, which often even sounds like it's already approved and begins next week...????

PS - Thailand has CV19 under full controll and we have 4% of the population fully vaccinated (except for foreigners living here who are bottom of the queue)

What i have observed in the last few weeks concerning this "sandbox' business is that every dick Tom and harry of several government's bodies and entities has something to say, either add, criticizes, warn, suggest or wish to see happening, too many cooks spoil the broth as we all know, no uniform direction and certainly no clear leader as what is needed to be done...

Does anyone here think that the TAT are living in the real world ?

Headlines such as "Thailand suffers record daily deaths" in UK press whilst Thailand makes me do a 14 day ASQ in Bangkok if I come here mean why should other countries bother with Thailand's belly aching about their quarantine requirements.

I suppose that "baby bubble" must mean making babies in the hotel room, as not much else for tourists to do in Thailand at the moment.

And that my friend is the rub.  Not one single country in the world gives 2 hoots whether their citizens visit Thailand nor do they give a rats ass how difficult it is for them to travel there.

So whining about difficulty returning to home country after Thailand being as prohibitive as possible to visitors is not going to register a single squiggly on the do I care monitor.

What Governments are going to listen to these World Leading people in the containment and irradiation of Covid.

Only 3.3 % of the population have been Inoculated with a Vaccine at best is only 50 % effective.

And that is after 2 Doses, with most people so far have only one shot of Vaccine.

Thailand is much more restrictive than most other countries. And they now want to encourage other countries to ease travel restrictions? So in case of Europe no pcr/antigen needed to fly back?

Come on Yutasak I don't know what you smoke but check first your infinite list of restrictions before wanting others to ease something that is perfectly acceptable and understandable.

I think that's the idea...

Any country that has not added Thailand to their list of states that require mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival from will soon add it. This is scaring the Thai Authorities. The know the list of target markets are disappearing as the covid cases rise in Thailand. Reap what you sow.

Thailand at risk when toerist come???

I think the toerist are at risk comming here.

We are vaccinated , tested and more...

Thailand isn't high risk; its medium risk. Thailand had not had serious outbreaks like Brazil, Italy, India, etc. Do TAT know what they are talking about? Here is a list of high/medium/low risk countries.

I'm not sure what they've been smoking. Cannabis bubbles maybe?

Reality Check: At the current rate of Covid-19 spread, Thailand will probably get red-listed by an increasing number of countries, which will lead to quarantine upon return for many potential visitors. Aiming for the opposite, at this point, is just wishful thinking.

I've always been skeptical of bubble plans due to the volatility of infection numbers, but maybe Thailand had a shot when it was relatively free of Covid throughout last year. Definitely not now though.
