Popular Post captainhornblower
My Thai wife had her first vaccination at the beginning of June in Samui, where we have lived for some 18 years. She was given an appointment to return for her second jab between 23 and 28 June. She went back to the same place that she had the initial jab and so decided to go on 24th June 2021 at around 13.00 hours. She got there (at the university in Chaweng) and was told by the staff outside to go away and come back another day as they had run out of vaccine. She had some friends who she was fairly sure were inside so she rang them and they said there was plenty of vaccine and the nursing staff were sitting idly inside as the staff outside were letting nobody in. She went back and they asked why she had come back. She told them she spoke to someone inside and there was vaccine. They were abusive but she is also quite strong and told them she wanted to check inside for herself. She got in and had the jab and as there was no queue she was in and out in 30 minutes including the mandatory rest period afterwards. As she was leaving she asked the people outside why they told her there was no vaccine left – they would not speak to her. <deleted>? Just a bunch of jobsworths So many times, particularly recently, I despair with this country. When I first moved here in 1996 it was not perfect but it was so much better than now. 33 12 7

Popular Post Thunglom
Sounds like someone is sidelining the vaccines for their own use. Problem - Those rightfully entitled are being ignored If te vaccine isn't stored correctly, wherever they emerge to be put in use, they may not be effective anymore. 10 1

Just a bunch of jobsworths They were probably told, what to say. The vaccine deliveries are little late, just like in Europe, so nothing special compared to "more developed" countries; they go on extended the final date for having vaccinated all (that want's it) in my Nordic home country by two weeks several times, due to vaccine shortness, last time only a weeks ago ...???? 3 1

Popular Post jesimps
I wouldn't trust any local in this country apart from the wife and daughter. There's no accountability, it's like the wild west. Before any of the "if you don't like it you can always leave" idiots pipe up, I do like it here, but I do retain the right to criticise when I feel the need. 19 2
Popular Post NorthernRyland
This is like when your order some food and they tell you they don't have the ingredients. I've found if you pressure them they will admit it's because they just didn't feel like making that particular dish. Happened many times to me. 7
Popular Post Dustdevil
The OP reminds me of China when it was truly communist. Any given hotel, especially outside the major cities, might be empty, but if you asked for a room you'd be told they were full up. "No room!" That's because everyone was paid a basic wage and nobody could be fired--so why should anyone do any work? At least in the service sector. It was still bad in 1992 when I was at a major airport. I went to a drink counter and asked for a can of cola and the two girls simply glared at me for a moment and continued chatting. At least in Thailand the young women in the service sector in BKK and Chiang Mai work hard and efficiently. 3

"Cowboy" and the "wild west" are always used by Commonwealth people to refer to anything inefficient. Wild West or not, Wyatt Earp in Tombstone in 1881 loved ice cream--and how, you may ask, could anyone get ice cream in the southern Arizona desert before the introduction of electricity? Trains packed with ice were able to make it all the way down from Alaska and northern Maine. And Paris/NY fashions were only a year behind. People could order anything by train using the Sears catalogue. 2

Popular Post 1FinickyOne
Dear Hornblower [ah horatio -I knew him well] I definitely understand your frustration.. to be treated this way in a matter of such importance is beyond comprehension... there is no excuse. But, this [the craziness] seems to be a world wide problem... people in USA are more and more often randomly gunning down people in public places.. you might be physically assaulted for wearing a mask [who would really care - if you wear a mask you are not hurting someone else, just I guess, assaulting their political views?? maybe?] there is so much craziness that it makes me wonder if there is something in the air or water that is poisoning people's brains and making them act this way? combined w/stress and anger levels that seem to be sky high... And though I shake my head in sadness at what your wife endured, I am not sure it is better elsewhere and at least in comparison to the little I know of the West, maybe this is mild.. Congrats to your wife's strength in pushing through and I am sad that she had to... 6

TimBKK
Post anonymously to FB? Seems a story that Thai media would pick up and run with, especially if it gained a bit of traction on social media. There must be Thai FB pages for vaccines issues, or a general Samui page? Just a thought, as it seems pretty outrageous behavior and more so after recent exhortations for all Thais to do their part to help open the country again. Some of the insanity has become normalized... I am amazed at the crazed airline behaviour amongst other things.. I read one story of a lady waking up to the passenger in the next seat peeing on her.. he claimed to be on some medication and didn't know what he was doing - it seemed to be then excused... ps - he was a minister... though that might be a calm accusation if you chat w/the choir boys... I have a 16 yr old niece and worry abt the world that she is going to become an adult in... but I guess the kids will handle it... new businesses will replace the old ones, hopefully new opportunities.. though as an old guy, no longer interested in pursuing the good fight - seeing the fall, it surely does look dystopian.. 1

I live in the North of Chiang Mai Province and had my first AstraZeneca shot yesterday at the local hospital. Very impressed with the level of service, health information sought from me and checks carried out. I was required to wait for 30 minutes after receiving the shot given printed information regarding possible side effects and what to do etc Also received a certificate giving details of the vaccine, lot no, serial no etc and return date for booster on 16 September. The vaccine was administered based on the date registered Thais and non Thais treated equally. I know some Thai friends who registered after me and have a later date.

Back on topic, glad your Mrs got her 2nd jab, many Thais I know, mostly the women would have just turned around and gone home, they hate to confront anyone they consider to be in a position of importance, Dr's, nurses, police officers, even customer services on the phone, it drives me up the wall sometimes. ????
