Is this still mandatory? Going for a bit of a drive around Pats today and don't want to get pinged.

They are stopping people at the dolphin circle on bicycles, motorbikes, walking without masks and appear to be writing citations.  3 to 4 cops.  I have seen some cars pulled over there also but not sure the reason.   Crossy's post makes sense and seems the best precaution.

I will have someone with me, so will err on the side of caution.

Annoying as **** but it's the rule (for now). At the very least, have it on and covering your mouth. Then if you see a cop, just lift it over your nose.

If I recall, the fine for not wearing a mask is something like 20,000 - per person !!

No one needs a car in Pattaya.  Plenty of traffic and pollution from all the food and package delivery people already (people with jobs who have to drive)

Just walk around and if you see a motorcycle police coming, put the mask on quickly.

Works for me

Stupid as can be. Most countries forbid any covering of face when driving.

When riding motorbike in the village also no mask.

I usually try to be "good farang" but there are limits to obeying arbitrary useless rules.

So, you're happy to pay the 40,000 baht fine for both of you?

Do you know how many police and checkpoints are up here ????

And checkpoints smell 500m ahead.

Yes, and the tirak carries extras in case I forget. The driving rule is a little silly but nothing silly about the penalties.

It's still mandatory if more than one passenger in the car (even if all are members of the same household). Am I doing it? Generally no. And the heavy tint on the windows means that it's not easy to see inside the car from outside anyway.

However, I'll keep the mask within easy reach to pop it on if I see the authorities or if I need to roll down the window for any reason (like to collect the mall parking card or to get gas). My gf can't be bothered at all.

We've never been warned or even looked at funny, let alone ticketed. But we're also not white and could pass for sino-Thai, so YMMV.

Only by mistake.

Usually travelling solo but now often find that when leaving a shop the mask is still on when I drive away. Brainwashed?

You have tint you can't see in on windscreen? That's safe, not.

Just remember that you don't need to wear a mask while driving unless you have stolen the car!????

Tint on windscreens has been banned in most countries for a good reason. I have a light tint on my side and back windows and find I have to roll down a window in underground parking areas that aren't well lit, and that's in daytime. At night a tinted front windscreen is hazardous.

I wear it under my chin. But, being the end of the month and cops want money, I can surreptitiously raise it and pretend to care. Outside, it is on.

yes, due to pooling other then our own kids to the same school .

My wife wears hers around her chin, ready to pull it up if she sees the cops.

As for me, I have mine on all the time, it's a wonder why she's short on.....

If alone in the car apparently not necessary to wear one.

I just got back from Pattaya and saw a lot Thai sand foreigners not wearing masks in public let alone driving a car or motorbike.
