Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanich, secretary-general of the National Security Council (NSC) and director of the operations centre of the CCSA, said today (Friday) that the CCSA predicts an increase in the rate of new COVID-19 infections next week, so vaccinations must be accelerated.

“We are trying to accelerate the vaccinations. It’s not that we are doing this gradually. As soon as any batch arrives, it will be administered as soon as possible,” he said.

“As the high number of daily infections is expected to remain for a while, we would like to ask for everyone’s cooperation and to be responsible, such as by practicing social distancing and wearing masks.” he added.

Is that one of the makeshift field hospitals in the picture.

If so, how can they force people to stay in such a place?

At the end of a gun.  Mao Zedong talked about that.

they have already run out of cardboard beds (which last only up to 3 months), so have to put mattresses directly on the flor.

but what is important, is the medical personel, a nurse for each 20 patients, some medical equipment and some medicines.

The only way to a proper hospital is through the field hospital or hospitel.

Those field hospitals are far from ideal, but even so there is an acute shortage of them.

for many sick at homes, those field hospitals are solution, preventing spread through family

Why do they think cases would stabilise at 10,000 a day? We will be there in a few days and once it starts going parabolic it doesn't stop so quickly, particularly in largely unvaccinated populations and in countries where the poor quality Chinese vaccines have been widely used.  In the UK, which is 50% fully vaccinated with reliable vaccines, cases went from 4,800 a day to 25,700 last month alone. India, which is more comparable to Thailand, went from a low of 12,286 cases reported on 1 March 2021 to a peak of 403,405 on 9 May, i.e. a 32.8x growth rate in 10 weeks and it is safe to assume there was huge under reporting.  If we extrapolate the same growth rate using the steady lows of Thailand's third wave of around 2,000 cases per day, we get a peak of around 65,000 a day.  The UK's peak to trough ratio has so far been about 18x but it's still rising. If we use that multiple anyway we get 40,000 cases a day.

There are many other stats they can compare but none of them support a likely peak of 10,000 cases a day which is head in the sand territory.  A more realistic assumption at this point would be anywhere from 25,000 to 60,000.  Thailand's hospitalisations will be much higher than the UK's because of the low level of vaccination and high proportion of poor quality vaccines administered.  At the lower end of that range Thailand health system has already collapsed anyway.

And just think what lead to all these issues .. head in the sand moment ...

It will worsen next week and the next week and the next week! The situation is utterly out of control with no supplies of vaccines except for Chinese junk. Could it get any worse¿ Yes it will.

Correct because Thais don't like to follow rules ..

CP owns 15% of Sinovac.  It invested only last year when Sinovac was raising cash to produce its vaccine.  Probably the original government deals were negotiated in principle at the same time.

Ooops. Missed the 1. Cheers.

Really these people are idiots. >10,000 community infections with >100 dead per day nxt wk or soon after. Should have gone fast and hard after Thong Lor, Sonkran was simply the thought of someone not fit to rule a country, giving those poor sods in the workers camps a heads up that they were about to be imprisoned in a covid petri dish and now cannot now lockdown because they openned up Phuket along with vaccines dependent on Sinovac of which Mr. CP has 5% shares and shows vaccine breakthrough is complete and utter insanity by greedy, empty headed fools.

Thank Dogmatix for pointing out my error. 15% not 5%.

No, of course a Thai will not accept someone's feet in their face. I can't think of any culture that would.

And neither would I for that matter!

But the factor that you're overlooking (or choosing not to see) is that persons who are asymptomatic still do have the virus and are capable of passing it on to others. That is why they are confined in these units.

So there is no risk of an  asymptomatic patient catching the virus from their bedfellows. They already have it!

Great place to mix and match variants however, a patient with Alpha then gets a dose of delta, a new variant is born

Meanwhile there were countless people here who argued with us for begging for a lockdown as soon as the "entertainment venue" cluster started...

Indeed. The lockdown was effective (on the face of it, still query testing and numbers) but it seems that thought bubble policy makers have neither the ability to look backward or forward. This fool running things is out of his depth in all but staging a coup, rigging elections and filling his and his mates pockets.

A "study" based on anecdotal evidence is not science. Assumptions are being made using unproven assumptions without scientific evidence to support their validity.
Until they can scientifically display using hard science that asymptomatic (PCR positive at a standardized cycle count) have the viral loads and the physical mechanism to spread the virus through the air, then this 'study' is conjecture based on assumptions that haven't been proved in a standardized, controlled laboratory setting and may even be scientifically unprovable.
Don't let that get in the way.  "Experts" will call this proof-positive.

Yea better tell the experts over at WHO as well eh, because you obviously know better than them or other credible studies.

Can people without symptoms transmit the virus?

Yes, infected people can transmit the virus both when they have symptoms and when they don’t have symptoms. This is why it is important that all people who are infected are identified by testing, isolated, and, depending on the severity of their disease, receive medical care.  Even people confirmed to have COVID-19 but who do not have symptoms should be isolated to limit their contact with others.  These measures break chains of transmission.
