Thailand on Saturday (July 3) reported 6,230 new COVID-19 cases and 41 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 5,936 new infections

● 294 prison / prison infections

Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 277,151 with 2,182 deaths.

(Total infections since April 1: 248,288.)

The news comes as The Minister of Public Health has revealed Thailand’s vaccination campaign exceeded its 6 million jabs target in June, with the supply of 10-12 million doses expected this month.

40% of all cases in Bangkok now the delta variant, this is getting very ugly.   Rolling 7 day average (up to 1st July only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases.

The 6,230 new cases reported Saturday set a new pandemic record single-day high for Thailand for the third consecutive day, eclipsing the prior record 6,087 cases reported on Friday.

The 41 deaths reported on Saturday was Thailand's lowest total in the past four days, following daily death tolls of 61, 57 and 53 in the prior three days. Though government officials on Friday warned that the nation's COVID situation is likely to worsen in the coming two weeks.

On Friday, one government medical advisor predicted that deaths from COVID-19 will rise from 992 in June to 1,400 in July, and then to 2,000 in August and 2,800 in September [meaning an average of 90+ per day], ultimately crippling the public health system.

Saturday's COVID case count was a Thailand pandemic record both for the 6,230 total new cases, and also for the 5,936 general population portion of that, excluding the day's 294 prison cases.

Saturday's tally marked the second consecutive day that Thailand's total COVID case count has exceeded the 6,000 mark, the first time that has happened during the pandemic thus far.

Saturday's 6,230 new cases almost doubled the nation's 3,159 reported new COVID case recoveries, meaning Friday's population of 54,440 hospitalized patients will rise again substantially when updated later today.

PM says restrictions are effective. 6000 per day and counting up. Obviously very effective.

It is a shame that more backbone isn't forth coming and kick the incompetence out once and for all.

As a foreigner I have no say in the matter, so I am saying very little.

Excuse me for doing this but I am going to re-post something I posted last night buried on pg 10. It's directed at those who think schools should be open. Here it is:

I just got a message from one of my grade 5 students.

"Hello Teacher, I'm sick with covid 19, I  must to go in the hospital and come back when I'm feeling better."

Right now there are some tears in my eyes.

With the numbers now at this level it appears that the Delta Variant is taking hold.  Last night from the Balcony, I watched as the freeway was loaded up with cars heading out of Bangkok.  Today the streets are nearly empty and the park near us which normally has folks in it on a Saturday morning is nearly empty as well.  Looks like the Bangkok spread outwards will become a further reality.

Do we have any numbers re Delta.

Meaning % of new cases in BKK etc

It was announced yesterday that 40% of all new cases in Bangkok are delta variant. I would suggest its far higher than this due to the limited testing and sequencing

I'm shocked. If 40% is accurate then we are in trouble (stating the obvious)

So, what happened to all of those posters who were claiming this was just the flu, lockdowns don’t work, Covid is a hoax, etc?

Yea its taking over rapidly......

"Specialist adviser on epidemiology to the Minister of Public Health Dr. Kamnuan Ungchusak meanwhile, admitted that the appearance of the Delta strain of the COVID-19 virus during the third wave of infections in Thailand, may well worsen the situation over the next three months, pointing out that the variant now makes up over 40 percent of all cases in Bangkok and is set to become the dominant strain in one to two months, with an infection rate 1.4 times higher than its Alpha counterpart."

He estimates one or two months for it to be the dominant strain, I estimate one or two weeks seeing as its 40% already

Tomorrow should see Thailand rocketing up the covid charts with a bullet at number 67. As I have stated previously at this rate Thailand will hit the top 50 next month. When I first looked at the worldometer Thailand was 177.

why is Bangkok not locked down with travel restrictions imposed to other provinces, pretty sure there will be many flocking to Chonburi this weekend mostly to Ban Saen Pattaya and Rayong

  • Popular Post

Unfortunately, I think Pattaya will see much larger growth.  Many Bangkok vehicles in town for the weekend again.

In honor of the forum's new name and broader focus, Thailand is high in the COVID rankings among ASEAN countries, who are having their own COVID woes, with this update from Friday:

"The surge in Covid-19 cases in Southeast Asia continued on Friday, while the death toll was the highest on a single day, collated data showed.

Asean reported 48,507 new cases on Friday, higher than Thursday’s 46,968, while 902 patients died, up from the previous day’s 819.

Total Covid-19 cases in the region crossed 4.98 million, while the death toll rose to 96,125.

Indonesia reported a new high of 25,830 cases and 539 deaths on Friday, bringing cumulative cases in the country to 2,228,938 and the death toll to 59,534."

I have posted this before regarding the cases and lack of testing, but I will post it again, "This Government is about to reap what it has sown", and that's not a speculation or personal view as people have stated in the past.  What it is is reality and it is coming hard and fast and this Government is surely screwed in all aspects as they have failed the people miserably.  Tourism is not where they should have put all of their eggs, just like the vaccines from only 2 companies, as they have now created a rolling mess that is hitting slowly but will be a Tsunami by the time it washes over the country.  I have been advised by family and friends in the US that I should leave while I can, as they see this as being much like what rolled through the west and Europe 1 year ago. A day late and a dollar short Thailand is, and it is all because of some very big egos and pompous people who think it is still under control.

Should have also mentioned today's numbers will put Thailand around number 15 or 16 for new infections globally so well in the top 20. Yes we all know that many countries under report due to lack of testing but I'm just going on official figures charted by worldometer.

Coronavirus: Indonesia defends use of China’s Sinovac amid surge in Delta variant

Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin says the problem is not the vaccine, but the mutant strain. Sinovac is the only manufacturer to have kept to its commitment, he adds   -- Published: 8:53pm, 2 Jul, 2021

The Indonesian health minister has defended the country’s use of China’s Sinovac vaccine, blaming a surge of Covid-19 cases over the past month on the more contagious Delta variant.  Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Friday it was wrong to blame the vaccine for the surge as countries like Israel and Britain, where most people were given the Pfizer-BioNTech or AstraZeneca jabs, were also experiencing surges.

“The issue that we are facing is not about the different efficacy between vaccines, it is primarily because of the Delta variant. It hits every country, so nobody is safe,” Budi said in a webinar held by the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club.

“Yes, the number of infections is increasing drastically, but the [Sinovac] vaccine reduces the risks from severe to mild, and from mild to asymptomatic. The number of deaths in the second wave, compared to the first in terms of percentage, is actually fewer.”

There is interesting situation in Oz.

They adopted the Hard lockdown and border closures. That worked fine against the early strains.

Delta is now testing that. This Bloke is hard to control transmission wise.

I'm sure some experts in the world are watching that country over the comings weeks/months.

Everyone has an opinion. Some with vested interest. I also was planning to leave Bangkok shortly and return to island.

My thinking close Bangkok borders. Obviously exceptions. However no inter provience travel for holiday etc

I hope he/she is OK. I've had 3 of my students tested positive since April, but they only had very mild symptoms. Fortunately children and younger people don't tend to be very badly affected.  Keep us posted.

So what happened to all the posters who were saying it would be over in 2 weeks and it was under control telling the doomers and gloomsayers to stop spreading false information and then flip flops with tripple pike and back flip with added twist and joins the doomsayer like they were always saying it was getting worse then asking stupid questions like a child seeking comfort with the in crowd. The hypocrisy is only exceeded by the ineptitude of the post.
