Thailand on Sunday (July 4) reported 5,916 new COVID-19 cases and 44 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 5,916 new infections

● 39 prison / prison infections

Sunday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 283,087 with 2,226 deaths.

(Total infections since April 1: 254,204.)

On Saturday, Dr. Yong Poovorawan, chief of the Centre of Excellence in Clinical Virology of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, said the majority of new cases being found in Thailand are of the Delta variant.

The variant was first detected in Thailand among construction workers.

Due to the ease in which the Delta variant spreads, Dr Yong said he expects infections to increase.

Dr Yong added that people should help to prevent the spread of the virus by only going out when necessary.

I wonder what the positivity rate is, and how many of the cases today are from walk-ins seeking help because they are ill.

I also wonder how many are at home, unable to get a test or hospital bed, suffering with complications that could turn serious. Far too many like this have been reported, what about all those who are not reported. Its now at a stage of crisis but the official line is that its under control....

There are always going to be reports of people who live alone who are too sick to deal with their symptoms and who die at home. I had a friend in the US who felt ill on Friday, and was found dead on Monday, at home.

But it looks like we are going to see a lot of these stories, unless they are censored.

Dunno. Couldn't be bothered to read the drivel. But the news article was posted on TV yesterday and is still circulating.

As many variations as there are committees who set them. The first one was 10 million a month from June

Do the current vaccines work against the Delta strain ?

https://www.voanews.com/covid-19-pandemic/sinovac-vaccine-falls-short-expectations-options-limited  30 JUN 2021

While the shortage of published peer-reviewed data makes it hard to evaluate the (Sinovac) vaccine, a few available studies provide a glimpse.

The government of Uruguay released data earlier this month showing CoronaVac reduced COVID-19 infections by 61%, hospitalizations by 92% and deaths by 95%.

Although not peer-reviewed, the study is one of a few that compare CoronaVac with another vaccine.

2 shots of Pfizer/ Moderna are, from what I've read. But the question is how effective Sinovac is, the one most Thais will get...

It’s called “contact tracing”.

Practically speaking, it means that contacts of asymptomatics are not found unless they go to the hospital.

Can you give the age and any underlying health conditions . Including smoker ? And if possible anything about the virus exposure to this person.

Natthapon, NSC’s sec-gen, said since China is still using Sinovac, it must be good because they made it.
