Secretary-General of “Action on Smoking” and Health Foundation Professor Dr. Prakit Vathesatogkit has come to the defence of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine, saying that the negative criticism of the vaccine is “unfair and biased”.

As an expert on lung diseases at Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, and a former dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the university, Dr. Prakit said yesterday (Sunday) on social media that, although he is not a frontline medic treating COVID-19 patients, he has been closely following the performance of medical personnel, especially those specialised in lung diseases, with great concern.

In the current critical situation, he said he has been urging people to get vaccinated, adding that he was inoculated with AstraZeneca vaccine in March, because he is over 60.

maybe the medicos caught the thing post-jab, because they were sent right back to work very soon after they were done with?

I think that the government has determined that the booster for people vaccinated with two Sinovac shots will be AstraZeneca or one of the mRNA vaccines, not a third shot of Sinovac.  He is probably correct that deaths have been prevented by a double Sinovac but there is much evidence that they didn't prevent serious illness.

It must be great to make assertions with a maybe, ponder the thought, and then get the intern to send out a press release, but farce it up a little - but I got the AZ cos some other reasons

Just an note, anyone regardless of age that got their vaccination at Piyavate Bangkok in June and July got Sinovac, not AstraZeneca. Any promise to vaccinate all over 60 with AstraZeneca is false.

and how does a lung specialist suddenly become a virologist?  it's a little like getting an aircon guy to fix a broken piston...

Nothing to do with the virus being a lung disease.

Posts denigrating and calling Chinese vaccines useless and referring to it with derogatory names have been removed.

Whilst it may be less effective in certain cases ie Delta strain it is by no means useless.

At the end of the day this is a government sponsored vaccine and the forum and or yourself can get in trouble for comments like this so stop it.

Because covid-19 affects the lungs perhaps.

Just to expand on your "yeah". Lots of blood vessels in the lungs which is what vascular diseases are all about. And it's also why covid is a lot more serious than the flu because blood vessels go just about everywhere.

You mean they're not giving patients oxygen just to get them high?

Is it any wonder that Immigration give us such a hard time when they have to deal with the critical thinkers we have on here.

Even China recognizes that there vaccines, Sinovac in particular, are not sufficient.

People who but, "It prevents death".  Thats not good enough if you're front line workers are laid up with high fevers and still contagious after getting the virus despite having two Sinovac shots.

That said its better than nothing, I guess.

The government needs to be held responsible for this mess.  Total ineptitude.
