Can a member please share how to print PDF file received on smartphone SMS.

Or can I use the two pronged 'share' symbol and send the file to my own e.mail and then print?  (Just a guess, I haven't yet received the file on my smartphone, coming in a couple of days.)

Thanks.

Done this a hundred times getting a visa and COE I found the best way for me was to use a laptop go to the print option and save as open a new file drag all your Pdf's into it and put it on a stick take it to a print shop if you don't own a printer many times I emailed myself accumulating half a kilo of paper as a result.

PS. there are probably easier ways ????

Assuming that the printer is connected to your PC, then emailing the PDF to yourself from your phone and opening the email on your PC is a good option.

My printer has WiFi and there's an app that I could install on my phone to print images and PDFs directly.

Thanks, I have a printer and I'm familiar with printing once any file is in my notebook files.

I often take a smartphone photo of a document of an object etc., then open the photo and use the 2 pronged 'share' icon to send the photo to my e.mail address. Printing from e.mail is of course quite easy.

But I'm guessing that a PDF file on my SMS is a different ballgame?

Bottom line, I'm lost on how to get the PDF file from my Samsung smartphone into my notebook, can you please explain more on this point (also I'm not really familiar with 'drag n drop).

Thanks again.

Turn Bluetooth on both phone and laptop. Share file via Bluetooth...accept file on laptop when prompted.

My home printer is connected by cable to my notebook.

I'm guessing that you're meaning to use the two pronged 'share' symbol to e.mail the file to my own e.mail.

Is this correct.

(Actually I often receive family photos on the LINE application, I activate the two pronged 'share' symbol and e.mail the photo to my e.mail account, printing from there is super easy. But is the two pronged 'share' symbol available on SMS items received by 'normal' telephone service?)

That should work, but in case there's no share symbol in your SMS app, you can click on the PDF file to open it in the PDF viewer first. From there, you will definitely have the option to share it.

OP, is it an option to receive the PDF attached to an email, messaging app, cloud storage etc.

An SMS is text only, if a message has an attachment its an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service). An MMS has size limits and network restrictions, extra costs (especially if from another country). Often if someone sends you an MMS, you often receive a link to go and download the file. If a file is too big, it simply wont be sent.

Nowadays, there are 100s of ways of sending a PDF file, MMS being probably the worst choice, I would be surprised if a company is electing to send files via only SMS.

Thanks, but let me be honest, I'm coming up to 77 years old and I'm not that tech savvy, never used bluetooth for anything.

Can the same thing be achieved by using the two pronged 'share' symbol to send the PDF file from my smartphone to my own e.mail inbox?

From there I can cope and easily print.

Thanks again.

I haven't used a samsung since 2012 but yes you should be able to 'share' the file that way, email it, and then print, even if it was sent through SMS

I've just made a PCR test booking at a lab here near Sydney, I need to get a negative report to be able to fly Sydney to Bangkok.

The lab has an automatic process to send the result report by SMS 24 hrs after the swab is taken.

I asked whether report by e.mail etc., was possible.

Abrupt answer was NO, on a PDF by SMS only. Call ended.

Thanks again, seems I need to find the two pronged 'share' symbol which shouldn't be that difficult, and send the report to my e.mail inbox. From there printing super easy.

Thanks again.

I think you will find the SMS you receive will be a link to a website, a password etc. (dear user, please go to website xyz.com to download pdf). Which will actually suit your needs better, it will just be a file in downloads, then you can share it, print it etc

I'm not sure the PDF is in the SMS? Maybe there's a link in the SMS to the PDF?

Anyway...

Is your printer on your WiFi network?

Do you have a PC?

Android or Apple?

I can print directly from my Android phone to my printer via WiFI.

Or I'll upload the PDF from my phone to Google Drive, download it to my PC for archival and printing.

OP. You should be able to share as an email. If not can't you copy and paste the pdf into an email and send it to yourself? Then open it and print it from your PC or laptop.

Also there are apps. You would have to search the App Store for your particular phone, that can print directly from your phone.

Printer Pro and PrinterShare are two examples.

Yes I'm hoping I can easily e.mail the file to my g.mail inbox, then printing will be very easy.

My googling found many apps but I'm very hesitant that they bring 'side issues', 'invasion', 'change other settings' in my notebook'.

Thanks again.

- My notebook is an ACER Android.

- My home printer is connected to my notebook by cable.

- I think wi-fi connection is possible but cable connection is enough for my needs.

if you connect your printer to your router by USB
which most routers have these days
you will put your printer on your network and can then connect to it from your phone or any other device connected to your home/wifi network
(your printer does not need to be a wifi printer)

you can then just print direct from phone

this also applies to hard drives if you want a NAS

Unfortunately it doesn't have a USB port.

But I'm confident the advice already received today is what I need.

With thanks to all, much appreciated.

On the other hand I've read that at some departure airports and on arrival in Bkk the officials have readily accepted seeing the PCR negative report on the owners smartphone. Others have indicated that it must be printed.

I'm sure overall I will survive.

Further when I fly I will have received 2 jabs of the Astra Zenica vaccine and at least 1 jab, and probably 2 jabs of the Pfizer vaccine. Hopefully that helps.

Further, I'll be flying Sydney to S'pore, then 2 hr layover in totally sealed special room at Changi not connected to the main air-con system, then S'pore to Bkk. On arrival in S'pore passengers can't leave the aircraft until they've passed a 99% accurate 10 minute rapid test. And pass a rapid test on arrival in Bangkok.

Buddy of my Thai son (buddy works in health ministry) says theirs some discussion that by December there will very likely be new rules about quarantine: maybe 3, 7, 10, 14 days, and shorter periods maybe self-isolation at home for Thai residents, PR holders etc.

Buddy says all of this is driven by the urgency of getting mass numbers of tourists in and recognizing nobody will come if quarantine remains 14 days, even for sandbox locations because the sandbox novelty will wear off. And because many other countries are opening up to tourists.

We wait and see.

Thanks again for all the information and ideas, very much appreciated.

Only applies to certain routers and certainly not the one supplied by 3BB, which does have a USB port.

I have only recently gotten a smartphone, a MOTO G7 power, 2019 model.  Powerful. No data plan yet  but wifi worked out of the box so I have done some things with it to check out smartphones and what I like or don't like.  I downloaded some apps, a compass, have accessed youtube to view some videos, tried the FM radio that is built in, I also downloaded the Etrade App so I could photo deposit some slot jackpot checks. That was very handy as I had some 5K checks from slot jackpots but no Etrade bank nearby, no Wells Fargo in New York, and not even a Navy Federal Credit union allied branch that would take deposits!  And being an Android phone, it appears that google docs is available and I think it will stick files up into the cloud from which you can then log in to your goodle account from your PC or any other PC and see and process the files as needed.    I stopped playing with docs until I understand it better. I in NOW way want my docs to go into the cloud.  I don't use the phone yet and I have no plans to use it a lot to process documents, so I hope the cloud is NOT mandatory.  Talking to some Iphone people, I think they told me all files are stored in the cloud, or maybe that was some other carrier/phone combination.

email should be the simplest thing.  Google Docs online cloud storage maybe similar in a way as it puts the files on the cloud and you can then go log in from your other PC to access them

Not Samsung, but I received some files recently via SMS, which appeared to have been automatically converted to MMS due to the content.  I could not share them, but touching and holding the image gave an option to save them.  They then appeared in my pictures gallery and could be attached to an email for sending to my laptop.

I do as you do.  Send it via email then drag directly to my desktop.  From my desktop I can print it wirelessly.

Good luck.
