earning just 43,330 baht a month.

Prawit banked 5 million a year for FIVE years on a stipend of under a million.  They're all at it yet only when a problem arises does it excite curiosity.  There's a frenzy of house/condo building going on with 220 would be customers dieing every DAY.  Those footing the bills are spending money they daren't put in the bank.

This story reminds me of the Netflix series Cocaine Cowboys, where two Cuban immigrants became both notorious, and ridiculously rich drug smugglers.

Their biggest problem was spending or laundering the tens of millions in cash. Let's buy one more car?

Joe Ferrari = King Pin or maybe assistant King Pin.

Why do you think his nik name is Joe Ferrari and Joe Vios? and mind you, from first hand knowledge, if you wanna go up in the police/army ranks, you'll need to pay the piper big money to be promoted to the ranks of major and up...

What stupidity.  Cars do not bring pleasure.  He should have had 29 beautiful Thai ladies living in the mansion on salary.  Money well spent and helping the Thai economy instead of Germans auto makers.

Isn't it? But it appears to be part of the local 'cultcha'.

It is not appropriate to 'break someone's rice bowl'.

It's a mafia state where it is dangerous to go against these people, you can wind up dead very easily even if you are a Westerner. We are fair game too now. Note that all the journos (local Thais and expats) that have pursued stories against Police and Army have had to leave Thailand due to threats to themselves and their families.

Starts from the government down, they have a convicted drug smuggler and alleged murderer in a ministerial position.

And to the readership here: please stop taking this country seriously. It is still very underdeveloped and will continue to be so for decades. Hopefully the youth keep digging in and force change. Education is key.

A few years back, a poll was performed here in Thailand. The question was "Would you engage in corruption if the outcome benefited you personally?". If memory serves, 72% of Thais said they would.

When the figures were broken down further, the under-25's polled 77% that they would engage in corruption.

I think putting your faith in youth and education is logical, but mistaken.

Her response was virtually that she found it kind of an acceptable practice because it happens in many police forces !

Probably a major reason that there is so much corruption in Thailand, along with many other issues, people just don't really care that much about what other people do.  Mai bpen rai.
