Chaotic scenes resulted as a furious crowd of relatives and onlookers attempted to lynch the murderer of a factory lady in Rayong, eastern Thailand.

 

A video posted by Thai Rath on YouTube caught screams and the disgraceful scenes at the reenactment. Fists flew and people tumbled amid the confusion.

 

Hundreds of police had been deployed to maintain security but they failed miserably as a cordon was breached by the angry mob. 

 

It happened yesterday at one of two places where a reenactment of the murder of 23 year old Yotnam happened on September 6th.

Reenactments were supposed to have ended years ago but still they persist in Thailand as a means of expediting the justice process.

 

Sometimes, like yesterday, they descend into chaos. Police have apologized for the unruly scenes.

 

Udorn Kenma, 50, was arrested for the murder. He attacked the victim then stole her motorcycle. 

 

CCTV outside a convenience store in the Nong Krap police jurisdiction plus a 50,000 baht reward led to his capture in Udon Thani in the north east of Thailand.

He had previously served time for attempted murder in 2013.

 

Yesterday at 10.30 am Pol Maj-Gen Mana Inphithak, region 2 deputy chief and head of Rayong provincial police, led 200 officers and security personnel to two reenactment places - a deserted house where the suspect changed his clothes after the murder and the place where he laid on a mat then attacked the victim. 

 

It was at the second of these where hundreds of relatives and locals gathered to hurl abuse at Udorn.

But they could not control their anger, reported Sanook in a detailed report containing 16 pictures.

 

They broke through the police cordon and attacked Udorn who was wearing a motorcycle helmet.

 

Police tried to protect him but many were injured in the process.

 

This forced the officers present to abandon the reenactment and hurry the suspect away.

The local chief said that three officers were injured. He said that trouble had been anticipated but police had underestimated the extent of the crowd's anger.

 

He apologized for the ugly scenes but said that it had not affected the progress of the case.

 

Meanwhile people at the scene told Sanook this was a terrible crime and they wanted the death penalty for the murderer.

 

The police were thanked for their swift arrest of the suspect.

I will never understand why the authorities allow people like this back onto the streets.

Yeah while for a bit of drugs they remain jailed decades. I notice a lot of murderers get out early in TH to only do it again.

Wife's uncle shot and killed his next door neighbor...........served 5 years and is now back living next door to the guy's widow and daughter!!!

What is the point of these reenactments if it isn't to incite such scenes?

 

STOP THEM right now.

Ah, the reenactment. It's RTP's most important and effective investigative tool and seemingly used in every murder investigation.

Police forces around the world have a lot to learn from the professionals in the RTP......

What a perfect opportunity for someone to slip in a blade, like they do in jail.

 

Total waste of tax payers money when this guy ends up walking away alive IMO.

So why did this macabre parade occur if the process is no longer meant to happen?

 

Why was the decision made to showcase the alleged crime if not for media sensation, self promotion; glorification?

 

Failing to protect and encouraging a suspect to self incriminate only leads to allegations of coercion, inducement, appeals, early release etc. 

 

It does nothing to increase the skill set of the murder investigation team.

 

Men's Rea and Actus Reus are proven in court not by some television side show for the gratification of the the victim's family and the masses.

"Expediting the justice process" ?  --  I doubt whether Police Maj-Gen Mana Inphithak, Region 2 Deputy-Chief and Head of The Rayong Provincial Police Dept. of The Royal Thai Police could convincingly argue that to anyone.   ---  They are a dog-and-pony show for self-publicization and grandstanding, and I wish that the Thai-Media would ignore them - ... or that the international-Media would publish the details of these RTP-Farces.

Q: Has there ever been a reenactment "to expedite the justice process" in the case of the death of Police Sgt. Major Wichien Klanprasert ?

 

seems the thai cops only do their job at the wrong time. 

A guy who lives up the road from me put six bullets in his wife's head while she was sleeping.  I was visiting their neighbors at the time and lots of cops and an ambulance showed up and took the body out.  Two brand new Mercedes with high ranking cops (based on their uniforms) and draped in gold showed up and talked to the guy outside.  The next day he was "on the run" and about 6 weeks later he was back home living in his building as if nothing happened.  Prior to the incident he was very friendly and a great neighbor.  The story never made it in the news.

Also,  did all those people in the photo have proof of double vaccines?  I can't have a beer in a restaurant and have to be home by 9pm but angry Thai's are free to gather like this??  (Rhetorical question)

The Police should have retreated and let the family and neighbours sort out the murderer.  Just like all the rest he will be out on the streets again in a few years.

Actually it says served time in 2013. Was that the only year?

 

At the end of the vid a family member is justifying the attack by saying Thai law is weak.

 

I wonder if this was a reference to the short sentence?

Majority of jailed people in Thailand is drug related .

I have read of many cases that the accused has slipped through and escaped mysteriously No more follow up from the media and that includes Asiannow.

Doesn't cost the taxpayer much to keep anyone in a Thai jail and it also a much worse punishment than death.

Actually it says: "He had previously served time for attempted murder in 2013"

So the crime was committed in 2013.

Keep in mind - This is Thailand - and things work differently here.

For example, let's say the maximum sentence for attempted murder was 20 years.

In Thailand, if the perp admits to the crime when he's arrested, he would generally only get half the max sentence, so 10 years in this example.

Subtract from that assorted Royal Pardons, usually handed out on New Years I believe and the King's birthday. If I recall, they generally knock a year off almost everyone's sentences. (Except for drug dealers and murderers I think. Not sure if "attempted murderers" get the time knocked off as well.)

Suddenly you're out in 5 years ! Or less maybe.

Also note that (generally) reporters are not allowed in the court rooms and they don't do jury trials here, so the results of the trials are almost never known unless the gov't (or the criminal) announce the result themselves.

Why shouldn't a murderer suffer the same fate as his/her victim? They never get to see the light of day again through royal pardons, admission of guilt, good behaviour or whatever!

It´s easy to solve this problem. Just end the stupid reenactments that has nothing of evidence to deliver to a case. Just a foolish little circus for the ordinary clowning activities.

If 200 police officers were ordered to follow the reenactment, then they already knew this would happen. So why did they go through with it.... 

The only legitimate reason to carry out a re-enactment is in rare circumstances to clarify the evidence, or when the hunt is on before arrest to reveal witnesses.

 

All the ones I have seen here are pure showboating by police desperate to show they are not as useless as they are always portrayed. But it just shows them up more.
