UK continues its refusal to recognise vaccines administered in Thailand

My guess is that they're most worried about the lack of testing. They're concerned that if a new virus appears, it won't be picked up. But we shouldn't have to guess. They should tell us the reason (and also tell the Thai government). 

 

It would be good to see @British Consular Team active in this thread, or addressing the issue elsewhere. 

A lack of testing for new Virus Mutations Etc was certainly listed as one of the reasons for Thailand being placed on the Red List.

We can 'milk'this subject till  'the cows come home' but simplified the facts are that from 4 October 2021, most, if not all, countries in SE Asia will be listed as 'Green'when visiting the UK with the exception of Thailand.  Even N Korea!  what does that say as to how Thailand is perceived by the UK authorities?

 

 

The Land of Fake Smiles and watches comes to mind.  The 'Khosan Road' effect is reaching far beyond the borders of Thailand.

The Thai Astrazeneca is not officially recognised by the WHO either. As of 19 August Astra had NOT been submitted to WHO for recognition. The ones (Astra vaccines) recognised by WHO are UK, Europe, Korea, Japan, Australia, USA, China.

 

Astrazeneca Thailand needs to pull out its finger, it promised it was going to apply on 20 August but has been silent since then on registration. 

 

They seem to be arguing that a name change to Vazrevria should be the way to go but WHO already recognises the name. Astra and its other partners have shot themselves in the foot by already registering different countries of manufacture as stand alone vaccines.

 

They have given the UK an excuse to hide behind. 

Both UK and Astra are to blame for this, not Thailand.

What makes it ridiculous is that it is Astrazenica that qualifies/qualitates or whatever word suits the batch output from various global productions to their set criteria. NOT any Government.

As usual politicking and $'s  gets in the way of base reality.

Same as in the Netherlands they accept the Thai vaccines but because Thailand is on a red list you still have to quarantine when you get back into the Netherlands.

 

So has indeed not much to do with the vaccines but more with the infections.

Seriously, the AZ manufactured in Thailand is not the same as the AZ manufactured in the UK. Different components.

Then we have Happy Larry playing with the number of doses per bottle as well as injecting the stuff in 'other' places.

Lots of reasons to be concerned.

I have no idea if that is true or not, you would of presumed AZ would of ensured it is. Regardless, its quite a claim you have made, presumably you have some medical background or other form of evidence to support it with?

Thailand is on the red list .Therefore if you return to the UK from Thailand you have to quarantene. This applies to people who live in the UK and to expats.

It is not discriminating against expats. I am flying to Thailand next week and if I return when Thailand is still on the red list then I will have to quarantene just the same.

You appear to have missed Indonesia, Myanmar and Philippines from your comment on SE Asia 'red list' countries. Not really difficult to check.

The UK Red List is a mix of science and politics. Russia has a very high death rate, has been seriously under reporting deaths and infections since last year and is not sharing its genome sequencing data, yet it remains an amber country.  Are the UK and EU too frightened to upset the Russians? Does the City of London want to keep up the flow of dirty Russian money it has been laundering for years?

IT IS all politics around this pandemic, which many doubt it was ever a pandemic.

i follow the changing restrictions from different countries around the world, and

see how it is all based on politics and not so much about health issues.

For xample, entrance from mexico to the U.S. is much easier than from Brazil to

the U.S. although the pandemic is much worse in mexico than in brazil (mexico

admitted to cheat with the numbers).

For your information the reason I had Pfizer was because it was recently made available for my age, 66. I had registered and paid for Moderna but with the uncertainty regarding delivery, I decided to take the Pfizer option. Being smug had absolutely nothing to do with it!! Just being sensible in accepting the first available non Chinese vaccine!!
