Bangkok, 27 September, 2021 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to report that during today’s meeting, the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has approved a four-phase timeline for the country’s reopening plan to revitalise the nationwide tourism industry.

Pilot Phase (1-31 October, 2021)

This will continue with the four popular beach resorts, which were the first destinations to reopen – beginning with Phuket on 1 July, then Surat Thani’s Samui, Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Tao on 15 July, and most recently Krabi and Phang-Nga on 16 August linking with Phuket under the 7+7 Extension arrangement. This phase will also see reopening of new designated areas in Krabi – Khlong Muang and Thap Khaek.

First Phase (1-30 November, 2021)

This will see the reopening extended to 10 other tourism-driven destinations. These include all areas of Bangkok, Krabi and Phang-Nga, and designated areas in Buri Ram (Mueang), Chiang Mai (Mueang, Mae Rim, Mae Taeng, and Doi Tao), Chon Buri (Pattaya, Bang Lamung, Na Jomtien, and Sattahip), Loei (Chiang Khan), Phetchaburi (Cha-Am), Prachuap Khiri Khan (Hua Hin), and Ranong (Ko Phayam).

Second Phase (1-31 December, 2021)

The reopening will be extended to 20 more provinces which are tourism-driven, well-known for art and culture, or border destinations. These include Ayutthaya, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Nong Khai, Pathum Thani, Phatthalung, Phetchabun, Phrae, Rayong, Samut Prakan, Songkhla, Sukhothai, Trang, Trat, and Yala.

Third Phase (1 January, 2022, onwards)

This will see the reopening of 13 border provinces, including Bueng Kan, Chanthaburi, Kanchanaburi, Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom, Nan, Ratchaburi, Sa Kaeo, Satun, Surin, Tak, Ubon Ratchathani, and Udon Thani.

I thought by now it would be clear that you can't believe anything they are saying ????   they are not re-opening, they are buying time, and telling businesses to hold on using different word

I hadn't realised that Chiang Rai was closed actually, I just thought that there weren't any tourists!

Yes, we have been very lucky throughout this, relatively unscathed so far. The city has had only 0 to 2 cases per day reported all along on average lately. More elsewhere in the province.

Will this see the requirement for ‘arrivals’ to book and stay in SHA+ hotels  ???? Or can those returning to Bangkok and other ‘reopened’ areas of Thailand be able to simply return home without the unnecessary financial outlay?

Will there still be requirement for CoE ?

is another thing.

not many tourists will come when all shops bars and restaurants are closed.

right now there is a strict alcohol ban, so the streets are empty.

tourists who came here feel sorry and cheated, everything is closed so why did they come?

to sit in the hotel and watch TV?

Any other country would be charged with fraud.

It's a disgrace that the untruth of "reopening" is being splashed all over global media.

Whatever happened to the 7 day quarantine for the vaccinated? Let alone the scrapping of these measures

We are left in the blue with partial and constantly subject to change decisions.

Why is there a phase 1 for next month? It is business as usual since July.

Opening a couple of sandy beaches in the already existing provinces is a non event and left at the discretion of the Governor I guess

One thing is sure: I will try my best to avoid reading any announcement until it is in the Gazette and definitely not before the end of October as I am scheduled to return end of November..

Feel free to PM me if anything concrete happens in the between: I'll appreciate ????

How to F can travel Loei (Chiang Khan). Yes Loei has airport (1-3 flight/day) from Don Mueang! Still has 65 kilometer to Chiang Khan, where has nothing! In Chiang Khan has walking street and Mekong river nothing else. Yes and new "Sky walk", hardly has nothing to do more than 1 DAY!

timeline for the country’s reopening plan

<deleted> does opening even mean? If I was to go to an opened area, what is to prevent me from going somewhere not open? Are there checkpoints everywhere? if they let me in I can hangout in an "open" area to "quarantine" for a week or two but am I then allowed to go anywhere I want?

i just want to go home.

PS: i cant believe the acronym  "w.....t.......f" is a banned term. Essential term when discussing many subjects here.

a definition of 'reopening' would be useful

Maybe because it is not that polite, regardless the number of times it is pronounced, heard or read on numerous medias

How about :

1) What on earth? and  WoE as an acronym

2) Something definitely wrong here ?  or SDWH. You could shorten this one to SDW / SWH or even SW

and my favourite one:

3) As Siri would put it, I'm sorry but I didn't get that .

I admit that an acronym for the latter would look kind of awkward ????????????

(It is pun intended...just in case )

tricky as usual, and liars

I don't understand. What do they mean by reopening a province? Can someone please explain?

I do believe it was bars which caused the last wave.

That report is as clear as mud..

When they say re-open, do they mean all restrictions are to be lifted

For what it's worth, at the local consulate they told me, just this morning, that as of October first the ASQ will be reduced to one week for sure (only for fully vaccinated people). The guy I talked to just told me to make sure I don't book anything before October first and yeah, the ASQ will be 1 week.

Still, I agree this announcement lacks many details... So will Hua HIn and other places reopening in November be along the Sandbox model? Will SHA hotels still be mandatory? How long will it be before visitors are allowed to travel freely? What happens if you do test positive exactly>

Lack of clarity is still a major issue

Furthermore

Do they not realize that right now only total idiots are even considering going to Thailand for tourism? (No offense guys, but with all the bars closed and the cops empowered to arrest people drinking outside, curfews etc going there now for tourism just doesn't make any sense)

The only people who want to go want to reunite with family or girlfriends (or possibly other reasons, like work related), their lack of clarity and ridiculous rules (ASQ, SHA hotels, insurance, etc) are mostly just scaring them off.....

Thailand is more surreal than ever. If I didn't have a girlfriend there I wouldn't even consider visiting in the near future.

Also, wi

This can also be said by many provinces, where the numbers have been moderate to low from the start and still this way.

The pandemic and it's surges are largely the BKK Metro regions.......and the deep south.

Yeah.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a news article to be worthy of extended info/news reporting.

They seem to be fearful of a few journalistic details that would aid the story.

This style is very common among Thai news circles.

And from this official announcement this morning, seems to appear that they still don't know what they're doing or what they would like to do. This documented report is so bladdy vague and reveals little details about so many things that many would like to be clued into.

As you did, I would imagine that one could probably find out more specific info by messaging or ringing a Thai Embassy/Consulate. I believe many will still be in the dark to what is and what isn't.

Last spring it was announced that for those fully  vaccinated quarantine was reduced to 7 day. We had been trapped in the US for a bit over two years with the pandemic , and we thought "great , we can do that"  and we proceeded to jump through all the hoops, of which were many to get a COE. We paid for 7 days ASQ. purchased our airline ticket with Qatar air for May 7th , and started packing our bags and closing the US House . Then they changed their minds, "Those arriving after May 6th they said, would need to do 14 days quarantine, regardless of their vaccination ot COE, they would need to make new ASQ arrangements.

No way am I being locked up in a hotel room for 14 days with my wife. One of us is not coming out of that room alive, and I was sure that  one was going to be me. ????

So scramble to change our airplane ticket to an earlier date at a great cost. and get an amended COE, and a Cocid test with 24 hr results, close the house, pack our bags and leave.

We made it just under the wire, and did the 7 days quarantine. I got out of that ASQ alive I am happy to report, but just barely so. and I am still not sure about the status of my mental capacity, but I wasn't sure before I went in. So there.

Point being. Who other than those with diminished mental faculties,  and masochistic tendencies, would first believe anything the Thai government says,  and then jump through all these hoops to come to Thailand?

They also had some quite strict restrictions during the couple of years this has been going on, banning visitors if I recall correctly.

Does it mean that for instance Bangkok will not be "red" province anymore ? And when we come from Bangkok, no quarantine anymore ?

and what about the other provinces which are not on the list ? they will be "red" for ever ?
